Billie Holiday - Summertime (1936) 3. Mahalia Jackson - Summertime (1956) 4. Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong - Summertime (1957) 5. Sublime - Doin’ Time (1997) 6. Lana Del Rey - Doin’ Time (2019)

Music is subjective so I won’t fault anyone for liking a cover over the original: honestly until I read these comments I didn’t even know Lana covered this song, because I enjoy her music about as much as the idea of giving myself hernia surgery; but that’s just my take, you’re free to yours. Either way, I don’t think this song can ever be done right again; you just can’t separate a Sublime song from Bradley’s voice: they are forever interconnected. Without Bradley singing, this song, no matter who does it or how good it’s done, will always be off. There will always be that nagging feeling of something missing.

This song is canon as hell to history, shame to learn and read about the tragedy of the lead: rest in peace.

There was nothing like the hot summer days waking up at your buds house, having a wake & bake sesh. Just chilling all day... how time flies

Having Sunday Funday last week at my buds pool, 90's grunge was playing on the Sonos...heard so much from Sublime. Totally forgot about them. Such an underrated band. One thing is certain, he loved Louie Dog the Dalmatian.

I’m part of gen z. My elementary school art teacher usually put sublime on during class. I could never find the song for the longest time and I was so happy once I found it.
