The maxim in Jiu-Jitsu is typically "Position Before Submission" which is generally the best advice. However, when you understand the rules well enough, sometimes you can break them with successful results. In this video, I show about 4 exceptions to this rule in the form of submissions that work from inside the opponent's guard. I hope you like these, and be sure to let me know in the comments what other subs from inside the guard or other bad positions you know of and like.
Please be sure to turn on notifications for new videos if you haven’t, so you can find out as soon as I upload a new one each week.

I love this guy, he always doing stuff nobody else does. I mean why can we attack from there? They are always telling me to gain better position, but when I attack like this they get very surprised and kind of panic.

I appreciate that greatly! And I know what you mean. People get a little dogmatic about position before submission. I think it’s a good idea to have the superior position established for control before hunting submissions most the time, but there definitely are exceptions.

@@KnightJiuJitsu even as a white belt I try to make all other belts feel the same way. As Eli has said. Your mind has to be on ju jitsu, if your thinking anything else it won’t end well for you. Paraphrased of course. And don’t think a white belt can’t make a blue belt feel like he’s in danger. It’s quite possible.

@@KnightJiuJitsu I used the first part of feeding the skirt just never the second part of spinning. But I have fed the skirt to my opposite hand and then the free hand reach around the neck and grab lapel of the skirt and then drive both fists to the ground. I be done that a few times. It initially you have need to pull the skirt out and get all the slack out before they buck you over. What’s your thoughts on lapel Ezekiel????

Need help. 51 long time seasoned grizzled grappler student. I do a plethora of subs inside the guard its huge. I know my instructor hold me accountable as he tells me you cant do subs within the guard, quit that. The problem is: I've doe it since years till its one of my Agame and I catch so many guys with those inside guard subs, I become even comfortable, their guard are outstandingly hard to open. So rather than telling them they should not allow me to sub them, I lose patience and simply submit them in a gentle way. Tell me what you think. Please.
@KnightJiuJitsu
@KnightJiuJitsu 4 ай бұрын
My feeling about that is this: you can absolutely sub someone from inside their guard. The reason instructors say not to do this is because that You need to recognize the positional hierarchy so you don’t get yourself in trouble positionally by trying subs from “bad positions” and also because subs from inside someone’s guard typically rely on more size and strength. Those are both good reasons, but it doesn’t mean that those types of submissions should never be done.
