Absolutely LOVE the idea of building a huge sub piece by piece, I actually really hope that they go for something kinda like what you showed here. Having the mix of the satisfaction of building the Neptune + the awe of the Cyclops' size would be so cool, plus it'd make the blueprint progression feel more tangible. Also I remember the rumors whispering around the community way back in the day of precursor buildings in the entity gallery right as it got removed, it's hilarious that was probably you who set off the alarm for the devs.

I wonder if the Dry Dock could be modded into subnautica. Even if it just works the exact same as the Mobile Vehicle Bay, it would be cool to see it ingame. We know its possible to modify the Neptune Launch Platform (Clearly the inspiration for this) so it would make sense to be able to turn it into this.

I know this is going off into the weeds a bit but as soon as they confirmed Subnautica 2 I had an idea that I thought would be really cool. I would love to see a surface vessel that you can dock on and customize into a mobile base. I think it would be really cool for it to maybe even have a dive bell on it. I think this would be really awesome and it balances the player's want for a large mobile base with it not being overpowered because it is trapped at the surface.

One of the things I've been wondering about Subnautica 2 is whether or not we'll get a crashed ship to explore. It made sense in the original and in below zero because of the gun, but if they can't find a reason to add that style of exploration to the game I think it would be cool to explore a crashed submarine instead. For it to be as big as the ships in the other games though, we would need a very very open biome. I wouldn't expect a sub like that to be buildable or drivable but I think it's a cool addition to the environment.
@MonikaCinnyRoll10 күн бұрын
I've been wondering about stuff like that too. I hope we get some kinds of wrecks to explore, but we'll have to see.

So my only concern with aesthetically different hulls is clearance. Already I can forsee some people putting nacelles and fins on their hulls cos "wow cool" and then getting caught on geometry in shallows, on features like grand reef equivalents and then later in cave systems which already happened plenty with the (*relatively* sleek) cyclops in subnautica one. I love the rest of this though! Keep it up!

Honestly, some sort of damage model for balancing would be good, if you crash or get attacked, the ship would react with leaks to full on depressurizations. The only way to repair it would be returning to the drydock, where it would probably spend about, 2 In-game days(?) I've played 5 minutes of SN-1 so I can't really say much.
@MonikaCinnyRoll10 күн бұрын
That might be a BIT much, but flooding would be cool! Older version of subnautica had your Cyclops actually fill with water!

@Idont-know_110 күн бұрын
Might be stupid or a over the top idea but a large sub where the interior is designed to be a living base. IE a living room with bunk beds a room for food and growing crops a engine room etc. I think this would allow for the flexibility that almost every cyclops became in the first one but with specialized areas or rooms would allow for a more customizable and neat space. The general shape of one of the designscould be based of uss Indian ssn 789. As a large more oval submarine for more balanced space on the two floors compared to the cyclops which had a very narrow first floor. My main issue with the cyclops was how it felt so cramped and yet to big at the same time. But even if you can have everything in the submarine I believe a lot of people want a large stay at home base
@melephs_cap10 күн бұрын
(Unreasonably long comment incoming lol) It's hard to say what I'd really want from a new submarine, because I'm concerned about balance too. A big sub with building space poses the same problems as a weapon stronger than the knife: it waters down the challenge/tension...so to speak. I think I would want the devs to prevent the subs from becoming viable mobile bases. Bases are where I would want to gather intel on nearby creatures & resources, recharge vehicles, and do most of my crafting, so maybe limit subs to navigation & self-defense. (No infinite portable farms please, lol.) Besides that, I would like the big sub to be fast and have plenty of storage and customization, and of course some of those strong navigational utilities like the sonar and small vehicle dock. I think a massive sub would be hard to pilot, so I agree only a small size upgrade seems good. Part of why I want lots of limitations is that it's hard to not use something that is extremely cool and convenient. In a crafting game, if the player can craft something, and it sounds useful or impressive, they will craft it! Once they find out what they have is overpowered it's kind of too late to go back. That's how it was with me and the Cyclops: I couldn't help but rely on it constantly. I wanted to stop, but it was just too good to let it sit around. I hope the Subnautica devs can save me from myself this time around. As another thought, I watched a couple videos about Minecraft from @bumblebeebowties in which he suggested Minecraft would benefit from more (1) generated structures that reward the player for building and spending time near them and (2) craftables that force the player to build something around them, like the enchanting table. I think this thinking can apply to Subnautica too. I might like the big sub to need to charge for significant periods of time at craftable charging stations, rather than letting the player just swap out its power cells constantly to keep its fuel constantly high. This would encourage me to build little outposts at various locations where I could easily harness power, like near steam vents and strong currents. While the sub charged, I'd expand the base or go on a trip in a smaller vehicle. So building bases and using the big sub would go hand in hand. Maybe as a very lategame upgrade the big sub could remotely access scanner room info from the nearest base within a short range, or even send one if its storage compartments like a drone to the nearest base within a short range, to be returned to the sub later. (Either automated or like the scanner room drones. I dunno.) I might also like to have areas even late in the game that could only be explored with smaller subs (maybe the big sub has a lesser max depth?) and some that require the big sub (maybe because it has cloaking or an energy shield?). I really like the idea of constantly swapping between exploring with the big sub, piloting a smaller vehicle, and leaving the vehicle altogether, with fairly frequent stops at bases. Sorry for the essay! Tl;dr - I really don't want the new big sub to be overpowered, because I won't be able to stop myself from using it, and I like bases and small vehicles! I would like to be able to get the big sub in the mid or lategame and be encouraged to build charging stations and/or take occasional breaks from using it. But I would like it to be best-in-class in getting from point A to B efficiently and in delivering large amounts of resources.
