Subnautica | 2023 Guide for Complete Beginners | Episode 1

This series features a complete beginner's guide to Subnautica in 2023, with the Living Large update live on a PS5. Subnautica is a fantastic survival adventure and I have played through the entire game on the channel with a Let's Play, but was so curious to see the new tweaks to the game with the update that I decided to create a guide for players completely new to Subnautica, or those just starting out.
In this guide, I will start a brand new game and walk you through the basics of the controls, the UI, and tips and tricks to help you survive in the beginning of the game. This is a completely non-spoiler guide, meant only to help you learn the fundamentals so you can explore and enjoy the surprises the game offers on your own--which is the real magic of Subnautica, in my opinion.

All the other beginner guides I could find just rapid fire a bunch of tips at you while jump cutting from footage of different playthroughs. Twenty minutes into this video and you're still explaining stuff inside the pod. This is the nice slow introduction I needed.

If the thirst and hunger depleting while you are crafting is too stressful, you can toggle on something like "Pause in menu". The open ocean is terrifying, but the predators in this game at least aren't too aggressive

If you're having trouble getting them by charging and mashing X at the very beginning, peepers run out of energy after a short chase! Keep close enough that they maintain speed trying to escape your clutches, but not so close that you lose them, and they'll completely stop after two or three turns, in exhaustion. Plenty of time to line up the button to get yourself food so you'll live to practice the zoom approach another day. Also, is the amount of information in the video a lot? Yup, in the best way! Thank you for making it, it's impressive how fully you explained the essentials of the game without spoiling anything. Plus you have a voice that is both engaging and relaxing, a rare find

Dude is explaining things slower than it would take you to figure it out yourself 😂 as a guide I would rate it at 3/10. However as a narrative playthrough 9/10. That is the pace you want to give yourself when playing this game. Great video. I would probably do one or the other. Explaining you press this and press that on your pad etc. kind of takes it away from the experience a little bit.

@@DrIncompetent My ultimate Subnautica fishing-for-food tips: 1) fish at night, they swim slower & are easier to see because of the bio luminescence; 2) once you have the propulsion canon use that to fish (right-click to pull them in, left-click to grab them into your inventory); 3) once you have built an alien containment tank put two or more of whatever fish you want to farm into the tank, they'll breed & make more, then just pop into the tank & grab a few for food, no more fishing! Just be sure to leave at least two of the fish so they'll make more; 4) best fish for food: Peepers to start, then Reginalds when you get the fish tank.

It definitely is playable with Keyboard and Mouse, as it has a dedicated PC version, but I always use controller for it so I am going to ask if anyone else reading this has played it with Keyboard and mouse and can comment on how the experience is with that control setup. I am not sure about this! But you can certainly set it so the game pauses in the menu screen so you don't use oxygen and water etc.

You got a good voice, too bad the mic quality is horrendous. I don't know if this has something to do with you playing on a console, but it's unwatchable. The visual quality of the video is also very low and compressed. It might be time to get a good PC, because you've got potential.
