1:05 By 2 Reapers actually. The Crash Zone has 10 Reapers, the Dunes have 8, the Mountains have 7. Fun fact: Because Gun Island is in the Mountains biome the Reapers there are actually closer to each other compared to the Dunes. During Beta the Crash Zone had 12 Reapers at one point (with one being close to Lifepod 4, guarding the Port section of the ship, and one at the southernmost end and actually spawning outside the map in the void but then patrolling into the map) but these 2 have been removed. I never understood why people consider the Dunes to be more dangerous than the Mountains. The Mountains not only has a higher Reaper density (even though the total number is 1 less), it also has a higher Warper density and is the only biome in the game where you can encounter something that is only a nuisance elsewhere but can become quite dangerous here: Biters. And while a single Biter is not really a threat - swarms are, and that's what can happen to you in the Mountains. My worst encounter with a biter swarm here was 14 individuals attacking me all at once and I almost died despite wearing the reinforced suit and starting at 100 health. 10:04 That Warper is really annoying and can actually be a lot more dangerous than the Reaper - it has a habit of warping the player out of the wreck and I also have seen the Warper actually warping into the Wreck to the player on several occasions - and that is really dangerous because you can't really avoid it in there. PS: The Mountains also holds one of the most interesting spots for a Reaper Observatory base because there's a location that has 3 Reaper patrol routes in sight of a single observatory.

i have seriously no idea where are the other 6 reapers by the mountains. I always thought there is just one. by the gun, on the top. I even went to try and search for them around and found nothing. even when i remove the fog and go around freecamming, i seriously see only one. i guess it's true then. every copy of subnautica is personalised.

yes, the warping into the wreck, that one happened to me. super terrifying
@kristopherheiser538Ай бұрын
The main reason why the dunes are seen as the most dangerous is the detection range. In the dunes, there is NO WHERE to hide since reapers like doing "Dive bombs" down to the ground. God forbid you're near him as he does this the reaper will LOCK ON to you. You will not know he's onto you until he either grabs you, or roars behind you scaring the shiz outta you. The mountains, while yes being littered with warpers, reapers, and as you mentioned, biters. It's in a massive area that isn't so "compact" and easily targeted. In the dunes it's just you. and them.
@confusionboi3369Ай бұрын
Actually, there is only 9 reapers in the crash zone, at least from my knowledge. I'm pretty sure the one your talking about is technically is from the bulb zone, beacause it patrols around the border of the bulb zone and crash zone. It's patrol reaches into the crash zone, but it isn't FROM the crash zone
@Hauke-ph5uiАй бұрын
@@confusionboi3369 It often ventures into the Bulb Zone, but its Spawn Point is in the Crash Zone and it is counted as such. But yeah - if you want you could argue that it is in the Bulb Zone because a section (but not all and not its spawn point) of its patrol route is located in the Bulb Zone. Likewise, the Reaper at the east side of the Enhancement Platform island often ventures into the Mushroom Forest, but it is not from the Mushroom Forest, and one of the Reapers at the back of the Aurora occasionally ventures into the souehteast Kelp Forest (which means that this Kelp Forest is actually a lot more dangerous than the others). But these Reapers are still counted as Mountains and Crash Zone respectively.

I love building in The Dunes. I never understood why people ask me why would I do that. It's open, there's thermal vents for free power, decent resources, it's near the sea treaders path, wrecks with good stuff, and there's an easy entrance to The Lost River nearby. Only thing you need to be mindful off is the reapers. Easily my favorite biome. Thanks for the video!

I just prefer being central to most areas. The dunes is just too far for me. I like to build a main base in the center and then multiple pit stop bases around the map with cells, batts, food n water. Reapers are easy to navigate away from or around. The only enemy that kills me a lot are warpers tbh 😂 when they tp me out of nowhere
@ireallydontknow2782 ай бұрын
Well the issue here Is the fact thermal is actually one of the worst power sources Not even being able to sustain a larger base compared to some other stuff The rocks don't have that good loot in them Like sure it might be decent But the fact is there's nothing important in the dunes It's fairly out of the way type of biome It's not really close to anything And overall a more centralized location is better for a main base As going from the dunes to the crash zone for example is going to take way longer Then going from the safe shallows to the crash zone Also the reapers are obviously pretty bad as well Sure it is a pretty huge flex to build in the dunes Alongside maybe the mountains and crash zone But in reality the dunes don't really have much going for them in terms of resources and accessibility

I use my cyclops in the Dunes and pretty much everywhere else, people don't seem to realize that if a Leviathan aggros to your cyclops you just turn off the engine and they get bored and leave you alone. The main reason people don't go into the Dunes is because the wrecks are completely pointless, you can get everything in them in much safer areas. There is one unique databank entry in the one that's relatively safe from Reapers the other 2 more dangerous ones are superfluous, the cuddlefish egg is completely safe from Reapers and the alien cache might sound close to a reaper but you can just park your cyclops in the crater below the cache entrance and either prawn suit the rest of the way or seaglide.

@rizaruschwartz9357Ай бұрын
is there a thermal energy for base? or u just use bio ones?
@koffinrottАй бұрын
@rizaruschwartz9357 I use a Bio Reactor. The blood oil pods are a really good fuel source and provide about 45 minutes to an hour of gameplay before I have to refill them. And that's only if the base is actively using power. Passively I didn't consume much power, since most of my stuff was in my cyclops. I recently added two new bio reactors because of the water filtration system and the additional battery/power cell charging units, and one of them is just a backup in case I'm gone longer than expected. I minimized the amount of power my base uses though, because, again, most of my stuff is in my cyclops.

I built my base in the Dunes because I’m mad fascinated with literally any video game’s most infamous enemies, especially if they’re known for being scary! The Reaper in the midway point of the video seen swimming overhead is known as Rachel to me, lmao. I built my base just to watch her. if there’s somethings I can say about living in the dunes it’s that prawn suits really make the reapers not that big of a deal… the patrol paths of most of the reapers don’t go low enough to really mess with the prawn. Walking around the Dunes I think I’ve only really had one reaper encounter in the prawn suit. Also, for me at least (maybe I’ve just gotten lucky idk) but being in the cyclops makes reapers no threat at all, without any upgrades of any kind the most a reaper has ever done to my cyclops has been maybe 20% damage tops. They’re really designed to destroy seamoths more than anything. I freely pilot my cyclops in reaper infested waters and don’t really even bother with decoys or turning off the engine and waiting for them to go away, the cyclops almost seems to confuse the reapers in my game, like it’s too big, they don’t know what to do with it lol. I don’t even get creature attack warnings, the worst thing that any reaper did to my cyclops was Rachel swimming directly into the front of it and pushing me halfway across the map because she got stuck, lol.

Thing about staying close to the ground, there's a very real possibility that, due to the jankiness of this game's code, a Reaper may pop out of the ground and attack you. If they grab you, you pretty much need to be lightning fast and trigger the Perimeter Defense or your Seamoth might get destroyed instantly as the Reaper slams it into the ground. This actually happened to Markiplier in his playthrough, he was traveling at night and there was a sudden camera shift, only for his Seamoth (RIP Bubblebutt) to get instantly vaporized and for the *briefest* second, you can see a Reaper swimming away just out of his field of view. Turns out, that Reaper had grabbed him and smashed his Seamoth into the ground. There was no warning, almost no time to react and the Reaper didn't even roar to signal its attack. And Mark was left alone in the inky blackness.

I've found that once I get the sonar module for the seamoth, I'm basically leviathan proof. You can see them coming from a long, long ways off with sonar. That negates 95% of the danger. The rest is just choosing the smart moment to leave your seamoth to scan and explore. It's not nearly as good on the cyclops, because the cyclops is slow, but the seamoth outruns almost anything.

Got the scan, and some Bio matter out of it so plus. But then I Went back into the Dunes going North. Ended up at the second wreck, and confused on how to get inside. Will circling the wreck I get attack by a Warper. Not so bad, until I get Jumpscared attacked by a Reaper. I was In my Suit, and I was just Drilling at it hoping it would let be go. It does, but my suit is a little above half health At this point I am sweating, and internally I said "Screw It". I leave an unnamed beacon at the site, and preceded to leave east to get out of the Dunes. I end up at the first Wreck, leaving a beacon there, and continue making my leave. I almost run into a second Reaper as it clips through the sand, but I don't get attacked. Finally I make back to entrance to the Dunes. A little valley that has a scanner room piece in it. I was sweating, and that was only a few minutes ago at the time of writing this comment. So it is Fresh. Not going back there for awhile. And you want to know the funny thing about all this. The Dune trip, was just a Detor. I was getting magmatite from the Jellyshroom cave, when on my way back I wanted to try out the Dunes. Talk about a trip.

Ive always been horrified of the dunes, because I thought it would be murky and I wouldnt be able to see anything. It actually doesnt look that bad in this video, but I couldnt deal with all the reapers...

This video is how I found out that I built my base right up near the dunes biome. I was wondering why I kept hearing reapers...LMAO

In my recent playthroughs, once I have the Stasis Rifle, Heat Knife, Seamoth Sonar, Ultra Oxygen Tank and a ton of batteries, I like to dedicate around 2-3 hours to go around the map and clear out all of the reapers and ghost leviathans just so I can shill out for the rest of the playthrough. 😂😂 Once you mastered the stasis timing and know not to approach a stunned reaper form the front it is becoming pretty routine.

Dude I was trying to get to the mushroom forest through the grassy plateau when I was new, and i accidentally brushed past the dunes (I didn’t even go in) and I already heard reapers screaming.

I’ve always had a problem with the dunes as a biome cause the only real reason u ever have to go there is for completion its purposes. I’ve never gone to the dunes on purpose or even ventured into it cause there’s no point. They should have put a biome on the other side of the dunes or some rare materials that you can only find there or maybe a biome under it or something idk just something to give u a reason to go there. Cause the mountains and crash zone both give u an incentive to go there even with the danger

I just killed 4 reaper leviathans one after the other and almost 5 but then a 6th popped out of nowhere and I had to get out of there. I think a 7th came out on my way back. The first 2 at the deep wreck where the water recycling suit is. The reason I mention this is because they seemed to respawn the moment I got back in my cyclops and started forward again. I was looking for the larger tunnel to the lava zones and it was just reaper after reaper after reaper after reaper after reapers until i gave up. I did have enough batteries to keep killing more though.

Bro i have been exploring this whole area and didn’t know reapers were in there but to be fair i also have been having issues with magnite like it wasn’t spawning in the cave with the extra big purple mushrooms and that abandoned research station i got so many blue prints from that place but not once did i see the magnitite in that whole cave the first time i went in there then i found it the second time i went in

Try to? I have a save with zero reapers in it. Or in-bounds ghosties… I put the time in. They all dead.

I built my main base a few hundred metres away, on the border between the plateaus and sparse reef. a while later I looked out of my window and was like "what's that big cave?"... that was the blood kelp trench, literally just fifty metres from my base. and next to that, the dunes

Stasis rifle, your trusty knife, and a little time can make it all REAAAAALLLY quiet and safe to explore...

Oh man I hate the statis rifle. I much rather grapple them and ride then all over punching them with a prawn suit. The Ride of A lifetime lmao. But I’m insane so ..
@kuhhnt2 ай бұрын
I'm lazy, and like air. So. Park the Seamoth. Jump out, bait leviathan, roll the dice and pray i get it before it gets me, then knife a bunch, re-stasis, knife some more, etc, then. Silence. And a giant corpse falls through the map.
@bwarmstrong1379Ай бұрын
I typically hunt the reapers and just kill them, stasis rifle and the thermal blade. takes a few to do so, but then, safe exploration
