I loved every bit of the game, however, I was kinda upset and disappointed once I finished the game because it felt short. For example, movies tend to have 3 acts, but Below Zero felt like it ended on it's 2nd act. The first Subnautica felt like it had a full 3 acts. I also found Robin's journey to find out what happened to her sister was underwhelming. I was expecting there to be some climax plot twist where perhaps Sam was "taken care of" by Alterra and framed it to look like an accident. I was also very disappointed with what they did with Marguret Maida (or however u spell her name). I wanted some kind of team-up to happen but Robin's interaction with her just kinda came to a dead stop at one point. I know Below Zero was originally going to be some kind of DLC and on top of that had it's story almost entirely redone at one point, but I feel like this game just could have been so much more if they gave it a little more time/polishing. Either way, I rather have the game than not have it at all.

The game had a better storyline initially tbh but they got new writers because the old one who did SN1 left partway through BZ, then they rewrote a lot of his stuff and honestly it was better before.
@davygravy5802
@davygravy5802 2 жыл бұрын
@@GemmaBee14 I honestly liked both versions, but the newer one felt more Subnautica'ish. Robin diving into the arctic waters to find out what happened to her sister felt so mysterious and adventurous. It also felt more like you're stranded alone, same as the first game. I feel like if they gave it the time they lost, it could have felt like a full game, with a full 3 stories merging into 1 towards the end. The stuff with Margerit came to a dead stop, and Sam's story apparently WAS actually negligence just like Alterra said. Sam didn't really discover anything.

2:06:30 is hands down, one of my most memorable gaming experiences to date. Spending time in the enigmatic crystal caverns, to find a strange well-like formation, journey towards it and see the crystals start to close more and more around you the more you descend. You have no choice but to keep going, and the soundtrack perfectly encapsulates that feeling of unyielding curiosity, yet undeniable terror as you can’t see far ahead of you for what’s to come. I love this game. I was addicted to the first one a few years ago and finally picked this up a few days ago and have been unable to put it down this entire weekend. I love love love these games.

For real, I think "cold" tracks are some of the most creative, I like seeing how different people interpret the cold (especially if they managed to do it without excess sleigh bells/glockenspiels/crotales/etc). Silent Hill: Shattered Memories is one good example of this, Different Persons is genuinely a bop while also making me feel cold and lonely

The music in this game sounds more Sci-fi than the original, I think it's because of 2 reasons: 1: Simon chylinsky (idk how it's spelled) made the original game's soundtrack, but another artist by the name of Ben Prunty made this one's music. Ben Prunty worked on the soundtrack of another Sci-fi game (dunno the name), so he would be more skilled in that aspect of music. 2: Subnautica: Below Zero is more focused on the Precursors, which they themselves are really Sci-fi driven, making the story like that too. Having the music fit that theme would fit the whole game, and it does beautifully

I like to imagine that the bonus tracks, Twilit Waters and The Dark, were supposed to be the tracks that played in the biome where the ice dragon would have been. I guess it was cut because there was no reason to implement a large enough area for the ice dragon to roam, while being super deep down.

Thank you for compiling this! A bit different than the first game. Plenty acceptable IMO, though a bit vague. I’m more than half way through (track 35) and enjoying it. Now I’m curious how many synth factory presets were used. The sound reminds me a lot of the newer offerings from Roland, Korg and the like. Synths with a simple press of a note or chord and a twiddle of a morph stick, give you an entire ambient soundscape in one shot. I am a bit surprised how thin the mix is. I don’t appreciate the audio appeal of the new “bright and loud” mix fad. Some of the tracks have really piercing high frequency material. I guess people are going deaf, loosing their high end hearing or something. It allows louder pre-amp levels but really robs the music of size and power. With Loudness Contour activated on my amp, it’s MASSIVE and much more brings visions of the game. It also helps balance those occasional resonant swells. IMO this OST, like most I’ve heard of this type, relies too heavily on fancy synth patches. Being a synth nut though, I like it plenty. Definitely has a spacey feel to it IMO which I love. No tracks really stand out to me, making a pretty even ride, which is good for a game IMO. : ) Makes me want to go back and listen to the original game’s OST to compare.
