I wrote a lengthy comment about the video but I feel it's better to leave some feedback here. 1- Make your speech and microphone levels consistent. You suddenly get too loud or too silent. 2- Take a step back, we don't need this to be an ASMR video. I don't want to hear your lip smacks and breaths. 3- Speaking of breathing, get better lungs. But seriously try some cardio, it will increase your lung capacity helping you to talk longer without having to breathe again. It will overall be a better and more consistent experience for both you and your viewers. 4- You had such good moments to add a laviathan scream here, or show a clip with a laviathan shadow there, but you never did. I found myself saying "I wish he did this, or that" multiple times in this video. Aside from these, great video. Keep it up. Hope to see more of your videos.

@@Slomsy Crazy thought ik, but its his video, so his editing style, the way he speaks, his lung capacity. You can give suggestions, but those weren't suggestions, it was a subtle passive aggressive assault on his video and person, which is odd cause you followed it up with "great video, keep it up." If you want to give criticism, consider looking up the definition "Constructive Criticism" and practice going about it that way, so you dont sound like a massive tool! :)

My favourite part about Subnautica is aside from the warpers there's no enemies. It's all just animals. Living their lives, protecting their territories, hunting prey. It's so great to have a game that's not horror. But terror. You have to learn your place on the food chain the hard way. Shame about Below Zero. Hopefully the new Subnautica being worked on is as good as if not better than the first. When all the greatness was accidental and organic. Edit: Also damn. The Crabsquids sound SO DAMN COOL. The sound design is immaculate in Subnautica as well. Second Edit: I actually play this game with a more realistic filter. It's darker. The silty water is harder to see in, and nights on/under the water are like they are in real life. Pitch. Black. Outside of luminescent life.

What I like about the Warpers is that once you complete the story, they stop bothering you and you can explore in (relative) peace. My first leviathan encounter was honestly worse then the aurora and reaper. I was on a seaglide trying to get to the island where the alien building is. I didn’t realize that the darker clouds were islands so I just decided to swim into one direction, see if it’s there, and turn around if it wasn’t (I thought there would be a clear wall kind of barrier at the end of the map) I went into the dead zone without knowing it, I had the message appear but ignored it cause I was set on finding the island. A few seconds later I looked down to change the seaglide battery and see a giant blue face appear out of complete darkness and try to attack me. I swim on the seaglide deeper into the dead zone to get away(my mind was in panic mode and I was crying) when I see a giant blue thing jump out of the water infront of me. I was even more panicked because now I couldn’t go foward or backward. I was balling my eyes out trying to get away going in any direction I could. I turned left and was eaten. I literally never wanted to explore the game afterwards and ended up never finishing it until a few years later 😭😅

This game helped with my art block. I have severe thalassophobia but my curiosity was stronger than actual fear. I finished the game with almost 100 % achievments. Countless times I just quitted because it was so horrific, but I always came back. In the end I realized something about myself, it's not the actual horror I'm scared of but the anticipation. It can be applied to many aspects of our lives, same with drawing (in my case) or gaining any skill. It's not the mistakes I'm scared of making but the anticipation of making them. So I just slowly started to get familiar with uncomfortability of making mistakes and it changed my attitude to drawing to much less perfectionistic side. This game helped me with my neurosis. I just love when games affect us that way. I not only learned something about this world, but I also learned a lot about myself. Thank you for this review!

Sure I’ve experienced some scary things scuba diving (nitrogen narcosis included), yet this game competes with that stuff. But at the same time, a lot of the scary stuff in Subnautica is also fascinating and peaks curiosity. Look at the Leviathan Class creatures and tell me those don’t look interesting. That curiosity is what gets you into the scary situations and I love that. I’ve even started putting my base in the Jellyshroom Caves since my third playthrough since it’s so gorgeous. Cave diving is dangerous for the same reasons as they are in real life. The animals are dangerous for the same reasons animals in real life are. Resources are valuable for the same reasons that they are in real life. One of my biggest regrets is watching so many play throughs of Subnautica before playing it myself-- it killed most of the horror for me, since I knew what was coming. Almost all of my fear came from the idea of losing progress, a feeling closer to anxiety than terror. I still love the game, it's one of my favorite games ever, actually-- but it isn't scary, which is sad. Warpers and Reapers still scare the shit out of me though.
@hctaz Жыл бұрын
Ironically, my thalassophobia is so powerful that it didn't matter if I knew where the spooks were. Even after watching Markiplier play through the game, face off against Stalkers, Sandsharks, and Reapers, I still pissed myself the first time a Stalker swooped in from behind. To this day, I cannot encounter a reaper without agonizing terror. Like even sitting inside of a glass tube where they can't get me, I still am terrified. Even when the Cyclops was completely immune to their attacks, I was still petrified. But it's only thalassophobia that gets me. It's the fear of the open water and the fact that I know there's a threat lurking SOMEWHERE. It's one of the reasons I dislike the Reaper specifically much more than I dislike the others- There are significantly less locations where you're just out in open water. The Void and the Ghost leviathan that can attack you in the Grand Reef are absolutely terrifying, but the Ghost leviathans inside of the Lost River do not scare me AT ALL because they're much more visible, and I can back myself into a corner which cuts off the available angle that they can attack me from. Similar situation with the Sea Dragons- The one in the lava castle area is TERRIFYING because that area is surprisingly open for a volcanic cave, and it's extremely murky. The Sea Dragon near the containment facility, however, I am not scared of in the slightest because the verticality of that area is tiny, and it's so bright from all the lava that my visibility is fantastic. So it's interesting that it really isn't WHO or WHAT is in the void, it's knowing that you're inside of a void with some kind of monster that can strike you from literally any possible direction you can think of that terrifies me. Which makes sense. It's probably a similar evolutionary trait like how most people are afraid of the dark when they're born. It's not the darkness itself that is scary, it's not being able to see a potential threat that makes it scary. It's your brain conjuring up the faces of demons and murderers lurking in the shadows that you're scared of.

@@hctazomg right. i only recently overcame my fear of reapers by forcing myself to go up to one and scan it, but i still get uneasy when in areas they can spawn. in my most recent playthrough, i forced myself to go to the dunes to face my fears, and for some reason, a reaper spawned directly behind me and was chasing me. i saw its red mandibles out of the corner of my eye and brushed it off, but then i saw it again and realized what was happening. i got away but for some reason, its roar was totally silent. HORRIFYING knowing it could grab me at any time and i'd have no warning. and horrifying knowing it was chasing me for like a full minute and i had no idea because it was glitched to be silent. my seamoth was just barely fast enough apparently. fun fact the cyclops at normal speed is the same speed as an adult ghost (idk about the onee in the void though.) i overshot my trajectory once and ended up driving straight into a ghost in the grand reef. it chased me backwards for a minute straight until it finally backed off. it was really fun actually. i was using my cameras, heard a scream, exited the cameras and had a ghost swimming towards my face. the only other leviathans that truly scare me are the void ghosts. i've gone off into the void by accident way too many times from overestimating how big the map is and it scares me every time. the other ghosts, especially the ones in the lost river, dont scare me too much. the void is just dread. i hate the vulnerability of open water on all sides.

I believe the fact that it isn't advertised as an horror game (and it wasn't consciously made like one) is the key, at least for me. I felt a lot of fear playing Subnautica, but it was an enjoyable feeling because the game never jumpscares you or resorts to common horror practices - in fact, even if it's pitch dark, you always get some kind of warning. It's fair, you are venturing into the unknown in an alien world you know nothing about. It's scary, but it's not really meant to be, therefore giving you an enjoyable and memorable experience. A little side note for any new players to Subnautica that read these comments before getting the prawn suit - You should always always always get the suit in the Aurora in every playthrough and avoid collecting the suit elsewhere even if you see suit parts. There is a bug in the game where getting parts of the suit elsewhere can prevent the game from ever giving you the final suit part even if you go back to the Aurora. This doesn't happen every game, but when it does it bricks your save file and you have to delete and restart. Also collect the full suit before scanning arm parts because there is a similar bug caused when scanning arms early that bricks your save. First time players don't be scared off by this, this is really the only game breaking bug that bricks your save file and it's very early game so not a big deal. Still one of my favourite games ever.

Bugs aside, it's also just practical to snag it there. You have to go to the Aurora to unlock the Neptune blueprint, the Neptune is required to complete the game, and the Prawn-Suit fragments are literally on the way to the blueprint.

I watched someone else play the game before I did so I was aware of the leviathans and their locations, but it's so crazy how you go in saying "it's okay, I know how to counter them" and then STILL get paralyzingly afraid of going near them, to the point where I would actively turn around at the sound of a reaper roar. Because of this, I was unprepared for how SILENT ghost leviathan are (fittingly). I got lost leaving the grand reef degasi base and left through a different deep reef entrance than I went in, and ignorantly shot to the surface to head back to my pod. Near the top, I looked down to check for references as to where I was, and all I saw was a giant ass ghost screaming at me. I responded in kind, and almost cried! Never will forget that moment.

I recently played subnautica for the first time and am currently in my first playthrough. The starting segment on the reaper leviathans is 100% correct. Tbh I didn't know you could bump into them with the electric hull protection but you live you learn. When I first saw a reaper leviathan it was in the dunes. I personally went to the aurora extremely late because I heard there were reaper leviathans almost everywhere over at the crash zone (little did I know I wouldn't see one AT ALL IN THERE until like my 5th trip to the aurora). When I first saw it, I paniced, but luckily I was not super close and it didnt see me yet. Once I felt I was safe though, it was a completely different story. Thinking the leviathan had gone, and not seeing it through the slightly murky waters, I went a bit further to explore when all of a sudden I heard its roar. A sound so menacing and fear inducing I almost peed myself (wish this was a joke). By the time I realized what it was and turned around to see it (thinking it was some stupid sand shark or something) it had me in its... wait, what are they called? MANDIBLES? THOSE ARE NOT MANDIBLES! THOSE ARE F*CKING SWORDS! As I was saying... it had me in its face swords. Suddenly my love for marine biology turned into pure thalassophobia as *I* (an experienced scuba diver who has swam with sharks) began to scream at the top of my lungs and mentally praying to god I wouldn't die. Seconds felt like minutes as my mind scrambled for a way out, but just when I thought it was all over, it stopped. Left me be. With 13 health left on my seamoth, I bolted my way back home while every little bump and roar of anything else scared the living daylights out of me.

Subnautica is truly one hell of a masterpiece honestly. I remember going out of the map and entering the dead zone, then getting the PDA information on it. Reading it, and not knowing what "ill-adviced" meant- yeah, you get the story. It was one horrifying of an experience seeing a bioluminescent GIANT thing come straight for you. I've played the game several times, and even now I'm not that good at memorizing the locations. This is especially terrifying when I know I'm somewhere around the edge of the crater, and since those regions go much deeper than 300 meters, it's really hard to determine if one has entered the dead zone or not. Two regions that also come to mind are also the crash site and the mountains, due to the reapers: If you are an experienced player, you still do your best to avoid contact, especially if you don't have a stasis gun yet, since that thing is so powerful it doesn't even exist in Below Zero. I remember being wary at the crash site, looking for more loot, feeling relief when I avoided one of the reapers, just to see another one elsewhere. In the mountains, I pretty much hugged the sea bed along with my trusty vehicles, hoping the reapers wouldn't notice me whilst I went into the wrecks in that region. This makes me think that another smart decision (development-wise) was to not have powerful late-game equipments that would make one immune to leviathans or other active threats - This makes even experienced players be cautious, even if they knew what dangers awaited them in the depths. I think this is what makes Subnautica stand out a lot compared to other survival games, where if you got far into the game, you pretty much became invincible, but in Subnautica, you are pretty much always the lowest on the food chain if you aren't careful enough. It's balance when it comes to equipment makes it feel more charming - You feel safer when you are equipped with better stuff, but you still know you have to be careful regardless.

Reapers are made to mainly to scare. They're not too dangerous, their scream warns you before you can even see one, their patrol areas are somewhat small. They won't attack as soon as they spot you, instead just slowly approaching while just "randomly" swimming around. Also, two most likely reapers to meet as first are special. One in front of the Aurora has the largest partol area in game, often making so some players won't even see it for first two or three trips to Aurora. Second one is on the back, in murky water, making it impossible to see it coming. Also, that one is able to follow you to safe shallows on some occasions, almost as if saying that safety is off now.

Yeah that is a very cool game design choice and the only powerful weapon would be Torpedoes or a Drill arm that isn't even for attacking.

funnily, I consider drill arm as the easiest way to kill leviathans xD @@XiX_Mega_W

if you have a stasis rifle and a knife, nothing can kill you anymore

The Void used to have a bottom but they removed it in an update without mentioning it. I thought the void was better with a bottom, you could plan on making a base on the floor out deep in the void rather than just having a long pipe out into nothingness, a nothingness that allows you to swim back underneath the map once you go past the collision of the cliff wall. Makes it feel more like a videogame when you can look though the world like you've falling through the map in Skyrim.

This video PERFECTLY encapsulates the reason I love subnautica so much, but also can't play it.
