Almost 2 years after you posted this video, I just now saw it in January 2019. I've watched just about everyone's sub-withdrawl KZbin vlogs and yours is my favorite. Your background story is very similar to mine except that I started off the bat snorting heroin. Never shot it. Anyways, that was a really long time ago and I am just approaching 10 years of maintenance dose suboxone. Thought, ok, 10 years is too long and even at 1.5mg a day the subs were taking a toll on me. I did a 4 month taper from between 1.5-2mg a day down to .125mgs and tomorrow is 2 weeks clean. Your description of the symptoms is perfect. It definitely is not anything as horrible as full-on dope sick. There's no jonesing, thank God. The most difficult part is not being able to sleep. I really hope you hung in there and never went back to the pills or heroin. I must say, the 10 years on subs for me gave me the time I needed to basically reinvent myself and set new priorities and get far away from the old me that wanted to get high. I won't talk shit about subs like some do. It definitely saved me from a life of continuous relapses. Now, I just want to be free of any crutch.

Hey, still here. Doing better then ever! Almost 2 years off in less then a month. I wish you the best of luck on the jump but as I say a lot in these videos, if I can do it, anyone can. Haven't looked back since. I agree completely, I needed to be on subs to rebuild myself and not be scoring all day every day. Got me out of the drug life and gave me the opportunity to make new friendships and such, I even moved out of town to get away.

Day 2 for me after 3 years on subs. I slowly tapered down to .5mg (half a milligram- tiny pieces) per day for a month and tried to go to .25mg but was withdrawing anyway so I stopped...It's hell, but videos like this give me hope. I seriously cannot wait until day 34...and beyond. Thank you.

qssneaky with a positive attitude like that you will no doubt make it there.i feel amazing where i am now and honestly still have lingering sympthoms, but still feel great. it does not get so painful that you cannot get through it. once you start feeling bad, try telling yourself that its your brain healing and playing tricks on your body. its the truth and honestly helps with the wave passing faster. keep as positive as you can. mornings were always the worst for me so get up and try moving, excersice will literally make your pain go away for a little so get moving and get the endorphans flowing

Thanks for replying. I'm day 4 now and I am beginning to wonder, am I feeling better? I still have all the symptoms, but my mind is a little bit clearer and I slept about 3 hours straight last night which shocked me. One thing I want to mention is that the entire time I took subs, I never got sick. Not even a single cold for 3 years. This seems to be true with EVERYONE I talk too who have been on subs or opiates. Anyway, I've been watching your journal from the beginning and how you felt on 4 is exactly how I feel now. You describe "me" perfectly. I must admit though that I watched this video first..But it gave me some serious hope. Now I am watching each of your videos one at a time (in order) as I progress along this wild journey. Thanks again!

The older you are and the longer you’ve been on it makes a big difference.I’ve been on 8mg.for 12 years at 65 years old and don’t see getting off this shit.

It definitely is with a slow taper. Wont be painless, but bearable to say the least. I just did not feel right being on it all day, I would get bad sweats at night and feel just unwell, but if you are stable and OK i guess it may not make a difference to stay on maintenance, although 8mg is a hell of a lot to stay on.

Its definitely possible to bypass the taper and just jump. Had to get off for health problems, and jumped off at 16mg. Lol. It was stupid looking back but it worked. 34 days and slowly healing every day. Was intense for like two weeks almost three, but has gotten much better. The thought of bypassing the taper and being that much further ahead seemed too good to be true. That and proving to the pain doc that I can live without this crutch. Still have symptoms but its all slowly going away. Day by day. Setting yourself up NOT to fail is what im living by:)

Kudos man I'm on 16 mg and the thought of jumping from here is terrifying. I definitely have to taper. I quit cold turkey from a higher dose 15 years ago but I was much younger and I didn't know what was in store for me when quitting. So by the time I was on day 14 and wonder wtf can't I sleep yet, there was no going back but I never expected the withdrawal to last 35 days. Plus months and months if not years of anxiety. So knowing that now + being 15 years older makes the whole ordeal seem impossible.

I have a theory that opiate withdrawal is partially caused by your body responding to abrupt gut microbiome changes. Think of it this way, opiate users become constipated and their lower intestines no long have to deal with "soft/wet" feces on a daily basis. Over time, this causes the microbiome to change drastically. When you stop taking opiates (which are an IMMUNOSUPRESSANT) your gut starts working normally again and your body freaks out from all the new bacteria entering your intestines. Anxiety and a high pulse are a sign of an INFECTION. Your body think there's a massive infection occurring in your guts. Remember, you just stopped taking an immunosupressant at the exact same time, so you're immune system kicks into gear even harder then it would normally! So that's why you get sick i think, one of main reasons. The immune system kicking into high gear might be causing the mineral deficiencies too, or making it worse. It's grabbing all your vitamins to make killer T cells and stuff like that.

Hey Mike, I watched your day 34 a couple days early - I'm at day 31 now. I consider myself lucky... when my boyfriend quit suboxone in March he too caught a bad cold around the 1 month mark...which lasted for weeks. I believe it is the lack of sleep and low immune system due to the weeks and weeks of withdrawal. I have managed to stay pretty healthy so far... Anyways I just thought I would comment to say I am in the same place. More energy, feeling better, but still lacking motivation and going through the anxiety/depression as well. I am having surgery tomorrow, (tubes tied) and I am pretty proud of myself for specifically requesting non narcotic pain meds post-surgery. Not to say that little voice wasn't telling me to keep my mouth shut... Anyways I'm rambling again. Keep up the good work man, you're an inspiration. Edited to add: I meant to ask, how long did you take L-tyrosine for?
@mikes.7488

Hey, happy your making it through, day 31! thats great, keep moving forward. The anxiety/depression seems to never really go all the way away, at least not for me yet. Hope sergury went well and kudos on asking for non-narcs, not many of us would have been that strong this early on. I took the L-tyrosine for maybe 2 weeks but it was giving me horrible bubble-gut so i cut that out. Stuck to mostly boost drinks and full viteman supliments. Keep moving forward!

mike s. The surgery went well...aside from the fact that I was given 30mg morphine while I was unconscious!! The nurse informed me once I woke up. I was furious. The anaesthesiologist was aware of the fact that I was 5 weeks sober from suboxone...yet he gave me the morphine anyway. My take home meds were non narcotic, but that 1 shot of morphine was enough to set me back into withdrawal the last few days. It is my own fault for taking the cancellation spot on such short notice...but I want to be completely pill free, and that includes contraceptives. Anyways I feel better today and my pain is mild...but the fact that I was given an opiate pain killer (because it is hospital day surgery procedure?) - when I specifically requested not to be given any, really really pisses me off. I just think the anaesthesiologist didn't understand the situation. Or didn't care. Anyways. It won't change anything for me, I am never going back to that life. It just threw an unnecessary wrench into a process that was hard enough! Thanks for listening. Cheers.

That is a really awful thing for them to do but at least your mind is still into the recovery. You have made it this far and you know you can get through this little hiccup. Stay strong, happy surgery went well other then the monkey wrench the devil through at you. consider it a test to see how strong you really are even though you already know you can stay away, it will feel so good once you are able to look back on it.

Jump off at whatever you want. A taper will just prolong everything to and extent. I say do what’s best for you, but don’t be afraid to jump off at higher doses, it’s not that bad

@@russelljennings4065 if I were to do it over again I would taper down as low as humanly possible, going from 8mg daily to tapering down to 2-4mg per day for a few days was the worst withdrawals I've ever experienced, physically and mentally

I huskies off 24 mg a day for 2 and a half years on day 34 I don’t think my withdrawals were any worse than what he said honestly the depression and lack of motivation, Other than that it’s about the same, and I have had covid for the past week!

I respectfully disagree with this take. I've came off subs 3 times now...these first 2 times I was tapered down to under .25 and while they were still not easy...it was a lot easier than my 3rd time...jumping at between 4-8 mg a day...this 3rd time was very hard. I 100% recommend thst anyone coming off should at least try and taper down as low as possible.
@AbleAnderson
@AbleAnderson 2 жыл бұрын
@@pfft7738 Yeah I strongly disagree; like I couldn't disagree more. I passionately disagree with you. I've tapered and it prolonged the whole mess horribly and was still difficult. The time I went cold turkey, it sucked but then it was done and I was so glad I didn't prolong it. We'll just say 2 subjectively different experiences

I was obtaining it illegally off the street for 4 years, I was splitting 8mg strips into quarters n taking 4 quarters thru out the day. My source dried up n I was ripped off cold turkey, I'm on day 12 now n better but great. Subs never caused any probs for me(maybe that's the addict in me trying to justify getting my own prescription) and debating whether I should go see a doc to get more.
