I am a nurse, past Hx of gymnastics, pmh rt. shoulder rotator problems due to trauma at 11 y/o, & thru out life. Now on 4th injury rt. Shoulder, rehab'g myself, still with bicep bursitis, superior scapularis bursitis, but with okay recoupment, but an underlying problem heretofore unrecognized, & at almost 72 not too accepting of crowds & appts. at this time or anytime really. My point, just by being able to follow your demonstration, I now have relief from the inferior scapularis, which has solved the occult problem that I have been having & seeking to relieve. Of course, the two bursites will continue to be helped through other opening exercises, but this subscapularis problem has given me deep midriff relief that has been holding me back. Thank you. You have great hands, & as an MSNED, BSN, RN I congratulate you on your astute teaching ability.

"overactivity of the Supraspinatus can reciprocally inhibit the Infraspinatus and Teres Minor." Thanks for explaining the relationship.

why is that an issue particularly- is it due to snowball effect resulting in too much activity and reduced healing time of supraspinatus?

Hey Christine, It was a gift from my friend Mike Tierney and his wife. Mike refers to me as the Sheldon (from "Big Bang Theory) of Human Movement Science, so that is a "Sheldon" bobble head. Great show, flattering joke, and I like to keep it up in my office for a laugh. Dr. B2

Then maybe this is wrong technique, or potentially one of several techniques you need to address your issue. I adamantly teach that there is no such thing as the "one technique fix"... every issue includes multiple tissues, and no one technique can address them all the way they should be. Dr. B2

I have weaker external rotation and pinching on the front of my left shoulder. I also feel anterior shoulder pain when chest pressing & bicep curling and also a quicker lactic burn on my left bicep during curls. Had issues for 3 years and I’ve seen all sorts of experts and tried lots of treatments. I have had cryotherapy on my shoulder which has eased the pain slightly which was probably due to scar tissue/inflammation, but now I feel less muscle engagement in my lats, pec, long head tricep and bicep on the left side. Is there any advice you can give me to help so I can get back into training pain free and effectively? Thanks

what do you mean by a "trigger point"?
@boxbury4 жыл бұрын
Trigger point is a taut band within a muscle. Some believe it could be caused by the overworking of a muscle causing lactic acid build up within the band of muscle.

So, I try to teach the "best" method I know of, but I have no problem with modifications. I understand that the size of my hands, my height, my gender and my experience all my bias me toward something that does not work for someone else. I think your case, if you like the technique you can approximate it by using your 2nd - 4th fingers, and maybe even a fingers over fingers technique as the patient has their hand behind their head. Give it a try and let me know what you think. Dr. B2

Advice, stop talking like you are in class lay people have no idea what you are saying...they tune out. They know you are a pro so be one treat the pt not your ego. One of the biggest things i teach young practitioners is to stop trying to come across like you are smarter then the pt. You may be working on an astrophysicist...you're not smarter just have a specialized education and as a practitioner you are not doing a good job. Just my little advice I hope it helps.

Eddy, This is an accredited continuing education platform for physical therapists, athletic trainers, chiropractors, etc. I am not trying to provide a service to lay people.
