Thanks Bill for the gift to Tinman! I used a LRB piston on a stihl my step dad straight gassed. Worked great til the 5 gallon can of premixed ran out.

If you had access to a mill, it would be a simple process to square the shoulders of the piston to make it perfect. Otherwise, you got it. Perfect sometimes is the enemy of getting it done 😅

Little Red Barn pistons may not be OEM quality, but they are certainly adequate. Think of them as a Harbor Freight piston. The price is right but sometimes they require a little bit of fiddling with. I have bought several Red Barn pistons myself, and have not had one fail. I did run into the same problem with the P41 Piston where it was too narrow. I called Lee over at Little Red Barn, and he was already aware of it. The Pistons he is selling currently have already been counter measured.

Had the same issue with a LRB in an Echo. Had to deburr. On another one, they were selling the piston to fit a range of years but didn’t know Echo had switched from a big end located rod, to small end.

Good stuff. Still wanna see you do a cheapo harry homeowner build on something super common and easy to get. Maybe an off the shelf box store unit.

Ive bought a couple lrb pistons. Both were heavy and needed a lot of clean up but they are both still working. Its kinda like they make them super thick on the skirts and not sure why but yeah they worked for me

Awesome care package from Bill! I've no personal experience with LRB pistons, have heard both sides. Will be a good test👍🏻

Had to mod a little red barn piston for a Husqvarna 254, was too long in the piston skirt and had no chamfer.

I used few LRB pistons with decent luck. Also if its 2 ring piston i would use 2 rings on it. Using 1 ring on 2 ring piston you will free port tru ring land....
@tinmanssaws2 ай бұрын
It's rare I use 2 rings on any saw.
@Ketis19852 ай бұрын
@tinmanssaws i also like 1 ring pistons. Im just saying that if its 2 ring piston then i want to use both rings so i dont free port the engine tru the ring groove.

All the highwy and meteor pistons ive seen and used were way better looking than the lrb pistons but ive never had a piston actually fail.. worn out but never like blow up or anything

I do not claim any super powers or great skill but i have been running saws for 45 years and never had an engine fail ! how do folks destroy pistons and barrels so frequently ? my oldest is a 1978 green Poulan pre chain brake lol , the alloy frame and back handle has fallen to bits and it has gone to meet Mr junk yard but the motor was still running fine !

First off you said there's a bazillion of them out there that need a piston and then a few minutes later you said there's not very many of these saws around.... are you talking about the same saw?
