I enjoy your videos! Have you ever done a video explaining how to move the cylinder forward or up in the case of the Pioneer. It would be cool if you could show this on your cut away saw. Thanks

I used the LRB snap rings on my BR800 piston. So far so good! 🤔 Have run it about 2 hours. I have some spares like yours but wanted to stay apples to apples.

Hi Tinman, I couldn't see clearly but it looked like you had the piston down too far, if you lifted it up the holes in the piston and rod might have lined up. I'd also be concerned about a loose fitting wrist pin. Thanks for the video.
@tinmanssaws2 ай бұрын
Hi, it's the opposite, the piston only goes down 1/2 way over the rod. The wrist pin hole is half covered when it's as far down as it will go.

Well shucks. When parts for vintage equipment becomes unobtanium, sometimes one has to get creative. No, I do not have a lathe. But I do have access to one at a long time friends shop. Just don't like to use others tools unless I REALLY need to!

Pioneer series bearings and crankshaft are the same as husqvarna 266xp. If you have a lathe you could take a husqvarna 61 piston take it down to the size of the p 40 series pioneer cylinder.

Hello from Virginia, I need a starter housing with starter in it to fit a p 40

Good day. If a 372 wrist pin will fit. I think an 044 wrist pin is lighter and stronger? I think that’s what ironhorse is putting in buckin’s new saw👍

Try spray oven cleaner for the carbon. It will clean out the ring lands and the carbon in the combustion chamber and not harm the metal, thou the carbon in the chamber increases your compression.

Those little red barn pistons are supposed to be a heavy piston also I know the rist pin out of a Stihl 044 is much lighter of a rist pin and I believe its compatible with a 372 rist pin not sure wether or not you have to custom fit it haven't used one yet but fixing on useing one on a 365sp good old information from the iron horse

There is someone on KZbin who took a 372 cylinder and put it on a p41, he called it the p74, if you type into KZbin pioneer p74 that KZbin shorts video of that saw should come up, it’s a really cool saw, and he piped it so it sounds great

Howdy Tinman, what's the thickness of those P42 rings? 1.2mm? Maybe use Stihl 034 Super/036 Super ring (48mm) and just gap them ? Just taking a big swing but 47.6mm to 48mm wouldn't take much filing and should seat in. MHO
@Ketis19852 ай бұрын
I believe those thin rings r like around 0,7mm thickness just like some Jonsered 630 and 920 had.

Hey tinman, I have a question, would I have to adjust timing on a 395 xp if I put a 58mm big bore kit on it with pop up pistons
@tinmanssaws2 ай бұрын
It all depends if the timing is where you want it. Generally a bolt on kit is bolt on and the timing is "close to stock"..

I'm not impressed with the lil red barn piston a got. Supposed to be a pop up... but I've never had a piston u could cut ur steak on the sharp edges on it. I'm gonna get a cheapo cylinder and spend 6 days trying to smooth the pistons razor blade sides n see if it works. Definitely don't wanna mess up the oem stuff.

If you check with Lee at LRB, he’ll likely accuse you of ordering the wrong thing and force you to write back and forth a hundred times before he decides to help. Ask me how I know!

@@Magoot2456 Well, unfortunately they’re the only source of aftermarket BR 800 pistons. So, I’m kinda stuck with them. But, there is a supplier in China that is now producing a crankshaft/piston combo that I may try. That connecting rod uses needle bearings instead of a bushing!
@CraigArndt2 ай бұрын
Well that’s no good, very disappointing when you buy something that is supposedly the correct part but it’s made to the wrong tolerances. Amazon is the same way, Chinese junk. Bought a cylinder kit just to be curious, the piston skirt and sides are like a razor blade.
