Today a subscriber visits the property to test drive the Eastonmade 12-22. I give my honest review of the splitter and answer his questions. We split some firewood for the business

Would like to have seen you split some knarly stuff as you can guess the tree's we get have unfavorable quality, not like that saw mill grade i seen in this vidja. We make use of all from kindling to compost, good point. Like i said good machine, nothings perfect, but price range i got it beat. Huntsville,Alabama checking in

God bless him! He will have a lot of fun running this, but at 5-7 cords a year? That would be like having Secrtariat pulling a haywagon! Adam, I too am in the bundle firewood business. I wanted to point out a few things that may help you determine how much money is actually made when producing the bundles yourself. My first question is where do you get your wood? Unless you have a large tract of forested land most suppliers have to buy logs from a logger. What does that cost? Right now it is between $125- $150 per cord (128 cu ft) per cord delivered. Then you must buck or cut the wood. (2 stroke gas with oil) and chain oil. Then split the wood. Your box splitter can produce nice bundled size wood but the scrap waste is at least twice the amount of other processors. So you must figure that in too. (15-20% loss) If you kiln dry your own wood you can use this scrap but if you are just air drying, it is still a loss. The size of your bundles without a handle is awkward for some people to handle, plus the wrap you use can be expensive. I notice you use 90 to 100 feet of wrap per bundle. I know your wrap is thinner than most but depending on how much you pay per roll it could be costing about $.75 per bundle. How about the fuel for your splitter? And the fuel for your truck? And your time? If you do not figure this out you will not know whether you are making a profit or not. How about the initial cost of the equipment you use including the tote basket? I wholesale bundles too and I sell 800 a month. I only have one customer but they buy year round. I am semi-retired and don't want anymore business but my secret is buying a finished bundle of .75 cu ft hardwood, USDA kiln dried, wrapped, with a handle, from the Amish. All I do is haul the wood. It is loaded and unloaded for me (by hand). For my time and travel I average $55 per hour. I don't need to know what profit you make per hour but I would be willing to bet it is not that. The Amish I buy from produces 2000 finished bundles per week and sells them to wholesalers like me. You may be aware of these facts but I wanted other viewers to be aware too.

After hearing the gentleman’s needs this machine is way too much for his needs. Especially at 10,000. It makes sense if you burn a lot or sell. But if you go through 5-7 cord there are much cheaper splitters with lifters out there. But in the end it’s his money. I’m thinking if I can secure a dump trailer and a good starter splitter this could be in my future if firewood business seems profitable in my neck of the woods western NY
