I've never cared for a materialistic thing enough to want a subscription box of it. I grew up in a household where we didn't have much. Growing up, we had a tiny tv, no cable, silverware that never matched, bedsheets and furniture from the goodwill, food from the food bank, etc. Every school year, my mom gave us $100 for school clothes, so I was in a position to shop at fast fashion stores with cheap clothing. When I was 18-21 I went through a spending phase because I was able to spend money on a lot of nicer things, and it was all so new to me. I have since then went back to trying to be mindful of what I put my money in and what I bring into my space. I realized that consumerism is a fast paced, stressful mindset I don't want to be in. I'm glad I am back to understanding that having everything isn't everything, and that less is more.

I'm so glad I found a video on this. I've been in this trap for a while. I recently shifted to UK and immediately started binge buying primark because it was affordable, got few subscription boxes just to feel trapped in a messy room, both physically and mentally. I wouldn't use it but just buy it for the heck of it. My mind was so cluttered, I was fed up with my self. I hated the urge I had to just buy random stuff from boots or tkmaxx or even groceries. Aaahhh. One day, I was on nitroboost or something, I just got rid of every freaking thing. Gave everything for donation and cleaned my room. I feel so much better now and I'm at peace. I've been on control since and my bank balance looks amazing.

I have thought about this so much! The popularity of subscription boxes basically just proves that people just want to get stuff. They don’t even care what it is, they just want to get it, that’s it. Smh...so wasteful

Yes! Promos and freebies and other junk like that drive me crazy. An example: the free gift that Clinique gives out twice a year with a purchase. I used to buy it because I would get a free mini mascara in the kit, which I do use, but all the other makeup and the bags that came with it, I would hold onto it thinking I might use it someday. I still have some unused stuff sitting in a box! It’s a huge relief to hear someone else say that this is wasteful, because most of the time people think I’m nuts when I say things like that. As far as the mass manufacturing of these items, and the slave-type condition these people are working under, that’s been the biggest reason for my cutting back on purchases and being more mindful when I do buy something. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

I’m definitely not a subscription box person anymore, but those samples that you get do help along the path to minimalism by satiating the need for new things. I love Hannah Louise Poston’s explaination of why she doesn’t have sub boxes. Although she isn’t a minimalist, she is on a year long no buy and is truly examining her emotions in an intelligent way; the difference between pleasure and happiness. I’m on my way to being a minimalist one category at a time. Clothes, books, perfume, then makeup.

I've been a minimalist for a few years now (it is always a work in progress) and I do find subscription boxes kinda cute. I never subscribed to one but saw my sister receiving some really useful contents quite frequently. Every now and then it also held something totally redundant to her. Anyway, the way you talked about it is a new way of viewing those, I never thought of that before. And now that you said it, it actually does make sense. It does. Good point.

I just came across your channel and I just want to say how much I love your style and personality, your energy is so positive and clear headed and very calming. I watched your “things I don’t buy” video and I realized I totally follow the same guidelines and never even thought of myself as a minimalist. This consumerism waste culture is a topic I constantly think about/talk about to my boyfriend and family (and whoever will listen to me lmao). I pretty much only shop at thrift stores and even in goodwill, Salvation Army, etc. I see SO MANY “freebie” type clothes and items that just send up back in the donation pile which ultimately turn into more trash. 5 minutes of excitement over an item turns into piles and piles of STUFF sitting in warehouses. It’s so sad and I really hope more people become aware. Subscribed & excited to see more of your videos! xx

I recommend the book Travels of a T-Shirt in the Global Economy if you’re interested in reading more about different aspects of globalism, including the cotton industry. What I found was interesting is that in some third world countries, working in poor conditions in factories was actually a step up from the backbreaking labor they previously did in the fields. And it also paved the way for women to have more independence. Western demand for better working conditions drives the improvement in working conditions elsewhere. There are a ton of other interesting things in it, it’s a great book.

I generally agree with you about subscription boxes and have been saying for years that it’s a way to peddle overpriced trash at you and hook you into a long term financial commitment that you probably don’t need or even want. Especially as someone who is very particular, the idea of paying for a random selection of things that I can’t control is totally unappealing because there’s a very high chance I won’t like whatever is sent to me. For example, I recently heard of a subscription box for funky socks but I know that there are certain colours that I just won’t wear. Why would I want to get stuck with 3 overpriced pairs of obnoxious socks every month? The one exception I could see would be when someone is really into a particular consumable and likes sampling different types (coffee, tea, weed, hot sauce, etc.) I’m a pretty big hot sauce enthusiast and love tasting interesting new sauces so when I heard of a gourmet hot sauce subscription box I was intrigued since as a consumable it wouldn’t really clutter my home, and it’s something that I actively hunt down and buy anyways, plus the opportunity to try obscure sauces excites me. That excitement quickly exited stage left when I realized that for a monthly box of 3 small hot sauces it was nearly $90. FUCK THAT. If the price was reasonable I could see it being a cool gift for someone who’s into something like that but the gouging nature of these things reaffirms my dislike of them. I’ll keep trying $2 bottles of hot sauce from different ethnic grocery stores.

Giving people things they don't really need by making them think they do! I can see the pleasure of getting it, but you're right-if you really think about it, it can get very wasteful. For some people it does make sense for a period of time- like trying out sample sizes of food and beauty products if they are actually interested in buying it. Low key I would probably really enjoy getting some (just for the pleasure of receiving something unknown) but I know that I really don't need anything in them. Thanks for sharing about the documentary!

I kind of feel the same way about gift sets too. They kind of appeal to a mass, and I find that I only enjoy a few of the things in there. As for subscription boxes, I totally agree! Although I have been thinking about a fragrance subscription, since I love fragrance. Every month they send you a roller-ball size fragrance of your choice. I liked it because you can choose your fragrance, use it up in about a month, the size is great for traveling, and you avoid paying a high price tag for an entire bottle of perfume. After I use up my current bottles of perfume, I think I might switch to that subscription instead of buying full bottles!

just started watching your videos, and thanks for this one! i've never understood the appeal of these boxes of junk. i used to go to a lot of conferences and always ended up with a swag bag. i used to get a little thrill to get them. but after several years realized i would stash the bag away and forget it, then come across it a year later at the back of my closet. i finally realized what a waste these things are, and now i refuse free things. people always look at me weirdly when i turn down freebies, because it is so out of sync with our culture of greed. some people seem almost offended when i refuse. i don't take free newspapers, flyers, pamphlets, pens, business cards. vendors know me now as "that person who won't take any paper." i've struck up interesting conversations with people who've asked me why, and got them thinking about zero waste. i also started taking a water bottle to the conferences because i'd think about those thousands of free plastic bottles wrapping around the planet and it just made me sick. they were even giving those away at environmental conferences. what?

I completely agree that we have been conditioned to feel like we need all of these items and it also is a push to sell more products through subscription boxes. They don't seem beneficial at all, but only a tool to add more useless items into your home. The only subscription boxes that may be an exception are those like Le Tote that let's you wear clothes for a while and then return then. Even still there is a lot of marketing involved to ensure that you eventually purchase something. I watched the True Cost and it literally changed my life and perspective. I had been a minimalist two years prior, but after watching that doc I realized that my decisions and purchases not only affect myself but the world around me. I decided to start making YT videos about my thoughts and process in this interest. You are definitely not alone in this thought! Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and minimalism journey. It has been very inspirational for me!

I cannot agree more I have one subscription box I used to have more but eventually realized I didn't need the others. For the one I have is just something I reallyyyy like and I love getting things from things I truly like and would otherwise have a hard time finding as well because mostly it's particular products that even though you might find at the store it's probably impossible to find all of them different things by yourself so it is very neat to get them on the box. I have actually used all of the things I've gotten and the ones I do not use I immediately set up for donation, so it's not at all bad in any way and I use I'd say at least 85% of everything I get.
@cerise3336 жыл бұрын
Honestly to me the snacks ones are not really an option because I am already overweight and I do buy foods that aren't too good on a regular basis so adding to that with more snacks is just too much I am trying to lose weight so any sort of box that includes food to me is like going completely against what I am trying to do and be more healthy, but I guess it's neat if you don't really buy any snacks yourself. For me I just like having one subscription box of a particular interest I have and it works for me because it has different things, different types of clothing, pins, sometimes books, stuff like that sounds probably weird for minimalist people to think that would be good but if you think about it in the sense that it is a hobby I have and that I truly love getting those products and cherish them and actually read those books and wearing those clothes everyday then it's not really a waste at all at least not to me :P Also getting one t-shirt a month is not thatttt bad really if you think about it. Particularly since I use them every single day :)

I don't like most subscription boxes, I'm picky and would rather just buy something I know I would like rather then get a box full of junk. My husband however would get every single box ever if he had the money. That said we do have 2 subscription boxes coming to the house every month for my daughter. One was a Christmas gift from us and the other a birthday gift from her uncle. They are an art project box and a tinker (so science/electric/building) box. These work great and are incorporated into fun projects we work on in homeschool. It doesn't matter that they are random, my daughter has liked making or doing every activity in the box! That said, I'm not sure how much longer we will get these, because of the stuff accumulating in the house. But just wanted to give an example of a box that isn't all garbage :)

I have always felt the same way about those subscription boxes - I see them on Facebook sometimes being advertised I just think how ridiculous it is. I think it appeals to a lot of people who maybe don't understand the "true cost" or haven't done their research, or sadly are still hooked to more more more, keeping up with the Jones's etc. I feel like ten years ago I would have been super into them too if they'd have existed. I'm 32 now and if I rolled my eyes any harder at them they'd fall back into my head.

Agreed.. especially with the makeup subscription boxes. I had one for 3 months before canceling it. Nothing matched with my skin tone and then I had a lot of small products and bags and tried to organize them. Everything was thrown out except for some of the bags that I’m saving for gift ideas. I think minimalism is a great way to question and detach what is constantly being pushed in our face through the advertisement industry. Started reading and researching more about it now I’m just trying to apply it. Love ❤️ your videos

I agree 100%! it's just a way to get a rush of dopamine once a month for a few minutes and then never use again. A particular peeve i have is a new one called lunarly that sells sub boxes with things like crystals, sage, succulent plants and other 'trendy' spiritual stuff in the name of 'self care' which is a whole other topic lol
@AlexandriaReads6 жыл бұрын
I totally get where you’re coming from. I stopped doing a few subscription boxes for the reasons you stated. Especially makeup boxes that don’t cater to a wide range of skin tones. That being said I do love the goddess provisions boxes. I use everything I’ve gotten in place of what I’d be purchasing anyway. Like soap or essential oils. I do find it to be a positive for me at this current time in my life. I don’t really buy anything for myself or do a ton in terms of self care, so it’s nice to have something to give me a reminder. I think if I got them monthly it may be a bit excessive after a while, but for now I’m enjoying it. It also introduces me to a ton of smaller vegan businesses that I wouldn’t have known about otherwise. I think mindfulness is super important when it comes to being a consumer. If we can begin to direct where the things we buy come from I think it’ll further help to minimize more waste production.

I personally never saw the value in subscription boxes. Maybe because I'm quite particular about the things I like and don't like which would end up me liking only 1 out of 5 products in a box which isn't worth the price for a box for me personally. What someone else wants to do is their choice and I won't judge them, they're free to choose whatever they want. When it comes to freebies, I've accepted only those which I knew I'd get value from, even before I became a minimalist as you get offered so much these days. I feel most people just accept them because they're offered these freebies but aren't quite sure what to do with them afterwards. Recently a friend tried to offer me a bookmarker with a pretty cute design while we were at a museum, I had to tell her no 5!! times before she realised that I genuinely didn't want it. Later I explained to her that I knew it would end up in my recycle box because I have this small magnetic bookmark that I use all the time, still she didn't fully understand why I would refuse something that is free. Like you mentioned, it isn't 100% free and always comes with a true cost. (I'm Dutch so maybe my experiences are different from those in the US)

I absolutely agree. A few years ago I had a subscription box for Graze snacks. It's like Nature Box but a bit cheaper. It was $10 every 2 weeks for a sample tray of 4 snacks. I liked most of them but the handful size snacks wasn't worth it in my opinion. I also tried Ipsy, a makeup subscription that sends you makeup samples from random brands in a mini makeup bag. I cancelled it 3 months in, when I realized a) the makeup didn't cater to my skin tone b) I would soon have a collection of unwanted makeup bags and c) a lot of those samples I could've gotten free elsewhere! Definitely too materialistic and usually a rip-off when you look at the bigger picture. I have noticed in the last year or so, the subscription box craze has seemed to die down a bit. Thank the universe lol!

Before sub boxes the only time most people got a similar feeling was at birthdays or Christmas. So in a way what’s in the boxes isn’t really why the majority of people get them, they think it’s the content but it’s the surprise part of opening something new. Studies show that same feeling happens when a phone notification goes off, which is why so many people are always on their phones. The scarier/depressing finding is, all these Kartrashians, Xfactor and reality tv shows that feature so much wealth, makes people care less about empathetic issues, welfare etc and more materialistic. So all these shows have really one point, to distract people from real issues and make them consume. Great video, I really enjoy your content, you should consider starting a podcast :)

I agree for the most part that subscription boxes are a waste of money and packaging. I have subscribed to VeganCuts beauty and snack boxes though. I started when I was new to veganism and wanted a relatively easy way to try multiple items and brands that didn't have animal products in them every month. I think it helped a lot at widening my knowledge on vegan brands. That being said I will be ending my snacks subscription this month because I have found it not worth the money and there is a lot of single serving packaging involved. I will be continuing my beauty box for at least a little while longer as I have used 90% of everything I have received and I love learning of new brands.

100% agree with you on this. I'm 30 years old but have felt like this since I was a teenager and am just now beginning to truly live a more minimalist life (and am SHOCKED at how much happier I am). I had a coworker who was addicted to online shopping sales and would get her subscription boxes delivered to work. It definitely seemed that the appeal was more in the "surprise gift" feeling and the illusion of saving money (as opposed to the actual product). I also work in the event industry and it bothers me when companies hand out useless little branded trinkets!! Maybe you can talk about companies that give away freebies (ie. silicone phone wallets, key chains, tshirts, squishy stress balls, etc.) I find that no one actually uses corporate branded stuff - so it adds another layer of wasted time/money/resources. Anyway, I can go on but just wanted to say i'm so glad I found your channel. Binging your vids on a Sunday afternoon

Growing up we got so many free T-shirt’s. Eventually when the logos on it wore off my mother would repurpose them as cleaning rags instead of using paper towels. Recently my sister in law let me go through a shopping bag full of sample size lotions and makeup from her makeup subscription box and she had tons and tons of little makeup bags too. It’s insane that each month you’re just given random things that may not work for you. It’s a waste of money and packaging

I agree for the most part. I have seen logical subscription boxes. Like the ones for things you already buy and get a discount on for subscribing. For example Diapers for your baby, menstrual pads etc. I watched The True Cost film a little after it came out and I think it is amazing and really opens your eyes to something important that is happening all around us that we are contributing to.

I bought into subscription boxes for about two years. I knew I had this giant feeling of hollowness and need. I thought the boxes would show me what to fill that with. It sounds stupid but it's how we're conditioned. Unhappy with your appearance? Buy something. Unhappy with your house? Buy something. Unhappy with your life? Buy something. Been five years, lots of therapy and PTSD meds later (along with sobriety) and I can fill that emotional ache in healthy ways. They don't make for an interesting Instagram, but I no longer think I'm inherently lacking or broken.

Definitely agree-I watch some youtube channels where they receive these boxes. I can't help but think of how most of these items go to waste. This ties into these planners, etc. people are so into with all the stickers and add-ons for them. I don't get why we need all these things when the production of them causes pollution and when the plastic in these small, useless items could end up in the ocean (and maybe eventually in the fish we eat!). I could rant about this forever. But, I'm, of course, not immune to getting sucked into things either. I think consumers should also be more upset that we're constantly bombarded with these useless things and convinced to buy them. I remember saying "no" to my ex who was offered a free mascara when buying something for himself-he seemed insulted that I didn't want it. And, then it became more awkward because the cashier also seemed insulted, lol! I don't get it-I don't wear mascara-why do I want a free one?! And, why is anyone insulted?! Agh. Okay rant over. :D

I hate subscription boxes! It is the worst that have happened to Nature!
@AScentedSoul6 жыл бұрын
Although some boxes can be a good idea for certain people... most are a complete waste and kind of pointless. There isn’t any way possible, especially with beauty boxes for anyone to use all of this stuff. Most companies and doctors will tell you that it can take weeks to see if products work for you but yet you’re expected to try five and six new products every month. Along with the other products that you e already been using. It’s overwhelming and not practical! Thanks for your video

I had a couple makeup subscription boxes, and ended up not using half of it because I didn't like it. I went through my makeup after about a year of canceling the boxes and threw out stuff I thought I'd use but ended up not doing so. Kind of makes me mad about the waste.

You're sooo right!!! I totally agree. Then you need to find a place for stuff that don't even use 😒

I remember the days when I had a beauty subscription box, years ago. I quit because I would rather use that $12 towards something that I chose and really wanted
@jessicamarie53986 жыл бұрын
I totally agree! I’ve never signed up for subscription box. I feel like why would I need to try something every single month plus I would hate to have all those products.

Yeah I stopped my Pop Fit subscription recently. It was a legging subscription and while I LOVE the leggings and the quality I realize I only go to the gym six days out of seven and I already had other workout clothes so I didn’t need all of those freaking leggings! That’s what laundry is for lol. Now that’s $30/mo in my pocket
@jennifers51456 жыл бұрын
You’re 110% correct. I get that guilt but only coz I hate to seem ungrateful for the effort put into creating and curating subscriptions packages. It’s better to give the things you don’t need to ppl who NEED or want them more, not hoard these lil bits and pieces coz it’ll most likely sit in storage for days!

I did kind of feel this way. The only box I get and it’s not a yearly thing I just pay if I want it is the Erin Condren box. Not sure if you know what it is but some of the boxes have been great. Other than that I’ve not tried another.
@JanellKristina6 жыл бұрын
I have not heard of that one!

I agree completely. The only subscription box I really thought of getting is a box of Japanese sweets... because I like to try them and have them during tea time. But even then, it’s not necessary, since even the “mini” box is more than I would need in a month. Besides, might as well just buy the specific snacks I want to ensure I’m getting exactly what I want, and some things I can even make myself. Love your channel btw, it’s inspiring me to de clutter more and make my space more peaceful and relaxing.

WHAT yo i’m living in lubbock rn and i had NO IDEA about the cancerous fertilizers. growing up ive lived among the farmers you were talking about and i’m aware of the harmful debt cycles in my city and every school i’ve gone to since 1st grade i’ve had to drive by cotton fields. i know kids who walk through cotton fields to get to school EVERY DAY. i’m not sure if every field uses similar pesticides and stuff but i’m shocked i haven’t heard about this from ppl in my city. on a side note, even though lubbock is in the middle of nowhere, it is still a city with a rapidly rising population and the blend of farm, college, and suburban culture makes it open to changing customs. even though i’m moving out for college next year, my heart still goes out to those in my city struggling to get by and i hope that capitalism won’t always trap those in rural poverty

I see where you’re going, and I’m glad you touched on the makeup artist thing. Hobby subscription boxes for things you can use (I’m subscribed to an art subscription as an artist) are useful though.

That is a fantastic film, I also liked the one by the Minimalists, and FED UP. Another good "film" to watch if you can find it online (on here or Dailymotion) is the "Men Who Made Us Spend." It's incredible. The only "subscription" per se that I think I've been happy with so far is the BeautyPie one. I can choose what I want, and not be surprised by a bunch of stupid little samples I don't care about. I HATE surprises, like, probably more than anything ever, so the idea of paying to get a surprise box of stuff I am not interested in and then have to dispose of somehow...not worth it. But over the last couple years I have noticed my INSANE shopping "addiction." Collecting makeup, constantly on the hunt. Clothing I've unfortunately needed to buy more of bec of weight gains and losses and I am frustrated about that.

Interesting perspective. I definitely enjoy subscription boxes. I’m not a minimalist by any means. I think minimalism is something to strive for but I don’t want minimalism to control what I want to do. I want to live and enjoy the good things that life has to offer and I personally don’t think holding myself back from consuming certain things that I’d like to consume necessarily either adds or detracts to my quality of life. I enjoy getting and trying new stuff I would’ve never otherwise considered, such as reusable straws or snacks from Thailand or a bath steamer that supports a small woman owned business, but this video did make me think about how much stuff I get that I don’t use. I think for the most part I use about 70%-90% of the items I receive. There are definitely things I’ve gotten that I use almost every single day or even repurchased on my own and then there are items I’ve given away or are collecting dust but I intend to use in the future. I try to get boxes that I know I will appreciate and won’t just add clutter. When I start receiving mostly useless things or I can’t keep up, I cancel.
@Treecylady106 жыл бұрын
I never really got into subscriptions just because I'm already trying to get rid of most of the random stuff I have. I think it is more about being excited to receive mail or like you said a random gift to yourself.
@jowonder65856 жыл бұрын
I believe it’s depending on what you use the subscription box for and what you buy. I got two specifically for shaving products and face masks. I have a hard time buying myself things I need because I’m such on a strict budget that I tend to completely ignore my needs and wants, I try to focus solely on bills and nothing else. And these boxes sort of force me to invest in myself. I believe that as long as you have a use for whatever it is you’re purchasing, fills you with joy, or is helping you someway they have a purpose and thus not a bad thing. Now if I wasn’t using any of these then I’d think twice or even skip a month if I haven’t used all the products given to me in one month, and that’s how I mindfully spend that way and not accumulate “stuff”. But it depends on each case. So no I don’t think subscription boxes are bad

I am on a minimalism journey. I was totally caught up in the fab fit fun box. I just cancelled it because I was feeling everything you just explained. I am still early in the minimalism journey and I literally feel sick at how brainwashed I was to consume.

I had to Google what a subscription box is because I didn't know. Lol. I feel like I've been a minimalist in some aspects of my life for most of my life without realising it. I was raised poor but was very happy, so I learnt from an early age what truly mattered to me.
@intellectgrime6 жыл бұрын
Great video! I always have so much to respond to and think about after hearing your reflections, thank you! Subscription boxes are in most cases useless I think and materialism does have a very high cost, that's definitely one of the reasons I've changed my lifestyle alongside all the personal benefits of course. Most people don't need to confront the true cost of overproduction and materialism because all the systems we have in place keep us behaving habitually and content us to live this sort of insatiable consumer life style, it's sad but young, conscious communities like this make me very hopeful for the future

It’s all a waste. Free t-shirts end up being faded and gross looking after 2 washes, you don’t even want to wear to sleep anymore so you throw it out or donate it. Freebies and subscription boxes are wasted as well because of lot of the products can’t be used for anyone & everyone, it’s too generalized. I’m really sensitive with my skin, sometimes I’ll skip and get a fancy sample from Sephora of a high end skin care product, use it and my skin is upset... so I stick to what I know works now and don’t bother with those birthday gifts anymore

I personally use ipsy to grow/change my makeup collection in an affordable way because I like my life to be constantly changing in little ways, and I enjoyed most of what they send me because it is personalized, but for the most part I agree with you and this video is an important wakeup call. I suppose I feel conflicted because fantasy me is a minimalist but irl I really like having lots of things.

Oh, I have a Ipsy subscription because I’m trying to learn about makeup and experiment with it. Everything I’ve gotten in the two bags I’ve gotten I’ve used. I got my favorite eyeliner, brushes and lipgloss in Ipsy bags.

At one point before I became crazy aware of our stuff in society and what I have, and I tried out a couple boxes like for dogs and geeky video game stuff to give the objects as gifts. But then i realized quickly how much money I really wasn’t saving as advertised, and most of the things I ended up getting were not really gift worthy. So I get some of these boxe subscriptions make it seem like it’s a good deal, but in the end it’s a waste in my opinion now.

My uncle is from Bangladesh (it's one of the poorest countries in the world.) He lives in Garland now but his family lives there and some of his relatives work in those fast fashion factories. I hate subscription boxes. Before minimalism for me (3 years ago) I tried boxes and each time was disappointed. I get weird looks when I say no to free stuff. If they are stubborn and really want me to take it I usually take it and hand it to someone else at the event if they want it or it goes into my donate box.

You're not crazy! Back in my beauty blogger days I was subscribed to a lot of boxes. I ended up only liking complete boxes maybe a fourth of the time and found the products I'd get going to friends. They were a waste of money, ended up saddling me with excess things I didn't need or want, and didn't make me happy beyond receiving the box in the mail. Not worth it.

I get a tea subscription box each month. So they send me 4 different kinds of tea to try based on a test I took. It’s great since it’s consumable and I love tea. However I see your point on non consumable subscription boxes.
@Kewpiiie6 жыл бұрын
I think the only subscription boxes I really like are the ones that come with very few things in them but they are not things that artist would typically go out of their way to get because it challenges the artist to use these few things in their art for example some will come with a SketchBook that has black paper or metallic markers things that creatively push artist out of their comfort zone I understand those because one thing artist tend to do is stick to buying the same tools but when you are forced to diversify your tools it makes you focus on using those tools alongside the ones you already have and so while you're learning how to add these new Tools in your art you don't really focus on buying more things, and you might learn that you didn't need a bunch of stuff you had in that there was one tool to do one thing. For example buying a bunch of paint to make a metallic looking peace when you could just buy one metallic marker.

I’ve never committed to subscription boxes. But I’m guilty of those birthday incentives like Sephora offers as well as other stores and the free panties from Victoria’s Secret. It’s a tactic to get you in the store to browse and hopefully make a purchase. I try to stay the course and get my free gift and leave...but I must admit in the past I was a sucker and fell for the trap 😂😂
