I love your quote, "it doesn't matter if you're drowning in 2 feet of water or 20. You're still drowning." It's important to realize that sadness happens to people in many different situations and you're allowed to be sad even if others have it worse than you. Suffering Olympics don't help anyone.

My favourite was : "It doesn't matter if you're drowning in 20 feet of water or 2 feet of water, you're still drowning." Whenever something seems unfair or something bad happens, I'm always told and I tell myself too that there are people worse off and there is. But we have to look after ourselves too. Otherwise we won't be able to look after others. Even if the problem seems small if it's got us all up in anxiety, we should deal with it. And not dismiss it as being not big enough. Fix what we can and keep working at it. It's not only the big problems that need fixing. Just like small acts of kindness can make a person's day. If we can't do a big lot, at least do a little each day.

I am starting to realize how much stuff we hold on to. How much society has convinced us we NEED these unscrupulous items in our lives to fit in and be happy. I love how you say that you bought something you shouldn't have and you kinda "regret" it, or that you need to get better at some aspect of the minimalist life. It's such a positive thing to hear as someone who is just now starting to get into all of this! So many people in the minimalist community act as if buying stuff impulsively or not being an 100%, certified minimalist is a huge crime and it takes away my motivation because I feel like a failure from the start. Seeing you "struggling" with some things even though you already are a minimalist encourages me a lot!

I love the advice on sentimental items that aren’t really sentimental! For me, that would be gifts I was given by people who are no longer in my life. I’m so glad you said to get rid of your car if it is not something that you need. I’ve been meaning to sell my car for a while now and I want to move back to my moms place in so I can save up money so I can travel! I am a little afraid in disappointing my sister and her husband (we all live together I am apartment and pay rent) because they might feel like I’m taking steps backwards by leaving and selling the car that they helped me buy (I’ve been paying them back). But honestly this feels so right. There is a feeling of passion and wanderlust for the world inside of me that I’ve never felt before and it’s ok if others in my life don’t agree with it.

Gifts can carry a lot of emotional weight, and I agree that getting rid of them can spark guilt. It's important to remember in those decisive moments the intention with which the item was given -- usually to say I'm thinking of you, I love you, I thought you'd like this. In that sense each item has already fulfilled its purpose -- conveying an emotional message from the giver to the receiver. When it comes time to part with gifts, I say a silent thanks to the person who gave it, appreciate the gift for the message it carries, and then let it go. If I donate it, I take pleasure in the thought that it will have a new life with someone else. About the meditation advice -- the 20X thing sounds (sorry!) like formulaic nonsense. One's ability to apprehend and enjoy beauty is equal to one's openness. The more open you are to the true nature of reality, the less little wounds hurt and the more beauty is apparent. Thanks, Janell!

Mental Clutter is real also I hate that honestly that feeling of everything being organized, well organized, knowing where everything is, having that space always clean is a totally different state of mind it really helps to declutter everything every two months or so and you can really see that. I am naturally kind of a messy person I usually have everything clean but my room is always a mess and honestly the moment I clean up it's so different , I sleep better, I feel a lot less anxious knowing I don't need to move things around or declutter because it's always on the back of your mind when you have a mess, also you wake up feeling better, more energy having everything well organized is just better overall it's good for your mental health as well :D
