Substance Designer - Animated Procedural Materials

Threw together a quick reel of some of the work I have done in Substance Designer over the past several months.
Starting around mid 2021, I began to get more interested in involving animation in my procedural materials and have had a blast playing around! In a lot of ways it reminded me of how I felt when I got into designer originally back in 2014
I hope to start using the channel to post more walkthroughs and learning resources.

For anyone who was interested in the tutorial - I've unfortunately been unable to build my full course at the moment though it's something I do look forward to sometime. In the meantime I will be starting to make more presentations on this channel and include some more indepth material/breakdowns so hang tight!

I didny even know that you could animate in substance. Or is that w shader in a engine?

You totally can! There's a $time system variable - these purely animated by the SBSAR, but they're rendered in UE4

@@JohnnyHalcyon3D Thanks for clearing that mystery up, I had no idea this exists and was thinking you're using Stager after looking at your blog, or using a panning material with flip book, as I read in your Artstation comments (prolly you may still use Stager for preview, as I saw a "Timeline" on some shots in your blog, not sure, but at least not in this animation)

@@JohnnyHalcyon3DIt isn't really performant is it? Like (4k textures) x (quantity of frames) = a lot. Or can you import it to Unreal or Unity and work vector-based? Looks awesome man great job, also thanks for the tutorials.

It's not performant at all! And it's nothing to do with the texture per se - these are substance archives running. (The green orb and lava are real time however). I'm sure you could do alot of it in shader and make it work with some compromises to the look. But this was just a bunch of tests@@itsfela
