Substance Designer - Crash Course

A beginner tutorial going through some of the basics in Substance Designer. Designer can have a large learning curve but hopefully this helps you understand its importance and most fundamental aspects. This tutorial is in Designer 2020, however newer versions should be able to follow along no problem.

20:12 : I'm pretty sure it was much simpler to get that result with less than half those nodes if you used the holy multiply blend mode :v But thanks a lot for the tutorial! Substance Painter is pretty intuitive when you come from Blender own node editor and it's crazy how many hundreds more nodes it has compared to Blender.

As a beginner tut, it is amazing how many things you glossed over. What is a node? Mipmaps? You say we can change those if we want to, but what the heck are they? You say "Usually you want to add an item." Why? What's an "item"? What is your target audience with this tut? EDIT: gets much better after 6 minutes in.

Crash course are info dumps. Most of my videos are usually for people I talk to Its not always meant to be fully encompassing. Some things are glossed over because they arent to important like mipmaps. Nodes are pretty much anything you add to the graph. Dots, generators, shapes, levels, outputs, etc..... You can even make your own if you really want to but that's for another video.

Top right of screen can set project size. Part of the main nodes toolbar.
