My crew and I enjoyed this game on an infrequent basis, until we realized that the early game demanded unrelenting focus on increasing income. Glai obviously learned this here, despite conveniently gaining the lakes bonus to take the win. Still, fun game, and your play-through showed that well.

Thanks Geoff. Yeah, the early game is completely about getting your income level up and then finding the right timing to switch over to getting reputation. We still really enjoy the game. It has a nice feel to it and it's always fun building a city!

@@AllAboardBoardgames Do you feel the expansion tiles and borders give the game more replayability. I see you've got the deluxe version; do you feel the additional cost is worth it? It's the sort of entry-level spreadsheet game I'd like to give to my grandkids once they're old enough to grok it and enjoy.

@@MisterG2323 The deluxe version looks great - the art on the tiles is better and the components are all very nice (though the first player "token" is a bit over the top!). You get a lot of tiles in there, from a number of different expansions. Suburbia Inc changes things up a lot, mainly because of the borders, bonuses and challenges. I do feel that they add a lot to the game. Otherwise, it is mainly just a bunch of new tiles that are nice to have and make it harder to predict what is going to come up next. So, to answer your question, the expansion tiles and borders definitely do add some replayability to the game, but the additional cost is only worth it if you are going to buy the base game and expansions anyway. Or, if the aesthetics are important to you. Your grandkids would probably enjoy the base game just as much, and later if you like you could get Suburbia Inc. That would save the additional cost and the gameplay would be just as enjoyable.

Hi Jon! Glad you like the video. I think Suburbia is pretty good at the 2 player count and it's well worth trying! Wow - long term U2 fan, eh? Really an amazing band. We were lucky enough to see them in Manila in 2019 (hence the t-shirt) for the Joshua Tree tour. Would love to see them do an Achtung Baby anniversary tour!!

@@AllAboardBoardgames Yeah an Achtung Baby tour would be great. They started to fade for me after that one. I respect the stuff since then but the run from Unforgettable Fire to Achtung Baby suits my taste so much more. Unforgettable Fire is my favorite hands down and I really think that is a Top 3 album of all time. I never got to see them which is a shame and something I have kicked myself about a lot. Reading about $10 tickets and playing in small theaters in the US on the UF tour makes me very jealous. Cheers!

@@Jon-G Yeah, I am with you on that. They never quite managed to get back to the heights of Actung Baby and below, as regards great albums. They did however write some great songs since then - In A Little While, Ordinary Love, Kite and Every Breaking Wave come to mind. I was lucky enough to be at the homecoming gig for the Pop Mart tour in Dublin in 1997 and then 2019 in Manila because I couldn't get tickets for their Japan gig that year. How amazing it would have been to have attended the UF tour in a small theater - and for $10!

So we will finally get a chance to bring this one to the table after watching your video (as well as 1 or 2 others) and also scanning the rulebook. I'm kind of happy we just own the base game for now, that seems plenty enough for us to absorb You guys do a great job, thanks very much. It was so interesting to see Glai win this one in the end.....it seems the odds were stacked against her the entire game!

Hi Andrew. Yes, the base game is really enough for Suburbia. Suburbia Inc. does introduce the borders, and they do change up the game, but that is something that you could always add later if you play Suburbia a lot and need something fresh. The game itself isn't too hard once you start playing. You just have to remember that when you play a tile, there may be an effect from a tile that you played earlier or an effect on a tile that another player played, and the effect of the tile will also be active for the rest of the game. Let us know what you think when you start playing! It's a fun game! Yeah, the game was turned on its head because of the bonus goals in this one! It certainly took an unexpected twist, but well done by Glai!

Hi there. Borders are not considered one of the four main categories (Residential, Commercial, Industrial or Civic) so you do not get $2 when one is placed next to a lake. Hope you liked the video!

Hi Andy. I wonder if you mean when we place a lake, or one of the generic tiles (Suburbs, Community Centres and Factories)? When you place any of these tiles, you must discard a tile from the market row and then pay the cost above the tile that you threw out, along with the cost of the tile you are placing.

Hi, Pat and Glai! I'm really interested in getting this game (played the app), but I'm torn between just the base game and the collector's edition. Do you think the CE is worth it? People complain about how the base game is in the bottom of the box. Does that make setup time significantly longer/more tedious?

Hi Hazel! Suburbia is a very good game. The collector's edition is really nice with better artwork and nicer components. However, it is a lot more expensive too. The setup time is not significantly longer I would say. There is probably no real need to get the CE simply because it is so expensive, and most of the expansions are not really necessary but if you would like to have nicer art and components they are much nicer. Suburbia Inc is the only expansion that I would recommend getting. I suppose if you get Suburbia and Suburbia Inc then there would not be too much difference in the price though.
