As a retail worker, it is NOT WEAK to leave a job where you feel dehumanized and unsafe, whether it's the first day or the first week or two years. It's a huge strength to have boundaries and be able to get yourself out of a bad situation at the first available opportunity. Nobody deserves to be in that kind of environment and we as a society should be doing more to improve working conditions for the lower class, period.

Just Lisa As an 18 yo ex subway worker: she wasn’t an underling. They were both coworkers, there are only managers and sandwich makers at subway. They had the same title, no underling and she said she had been working there for 2 months (takes way less than that to learn the job and 18 is grown enough to handle yourself here). It really isn’t all that dramatic and no subway manager would fire a minimum wage worker for something so insignificant.

Jasmine Watson My point is, when it comes to a job like subway it takes 3 weeks MAXIMUM to become a MASTER. Knowing everything and having working alone down. After a month I was opening and closing the shop regularly and it was my first full time job at 18. It’s very simple work and it’s a small shop without many things to learn. Because of this the pay is low and most employees are very young. Her coworker was most likely close to her same and age and experience level... regardless though, bc she both should have had the job down it doesn’t matter who went out. Either way it’s the same deal, part of being an adult and earning your keep is doing things that arent comfortable. By the way she told it, it seemed like her coworker was busy working in the back, so it’s fair. The only thing I could see having a problem with is the fact that she didn’t call the police, potentially putting them in danger. However, all I have to say about that is “why couldn’t she call instead?” Youre seriously telling me you can’t use a landline? To dial a 3 digit number bc you feel unsafe? Alright.

Ex-Subway employee here. My horror story: a lady and her baby came in one day. It was near closing time but we let her order. She gets her food and walks over to a booth with her baby. My coworker and I didn’t pay her much attention because we were cleaning the back. We didn’t even notice her leave. I was relatively new so I had the job of cleaning the lobby. I get to the booth where the lady sat, and I notice something hidden underneath the booth seat. I go to pick it up, and then dread overtook my whole entire being. This lady had changed her baby’s diaper in the booth, and left the used one behind. It was FULL of what you’d expect from a baby. And I had to dispose of it. Mind you, there is a baby changing station in the bathroom... but she did it in the booth, and left the nasty diaper for me to deal with. Nastiest day of my life.

I was working at a package store (liquor store) late one night with one other person - the stockboy, who was younger than me but had been there longer. We were cleaning the place up because it was closing time and we wanted to leave. One of our regulars came to the door and started to open it to come in, but I had already counted the money and closed down the drawer, so I couldn't ring him out. I would have if I could, we did it for regulars coming in at the last minute all the time. I hadn't locked the door yet because no one had been in for the past hour and we were going to be walking out within two minutes anyways. I told him "hey sorry we're closed I can't sell you anything" and he initially walked out and then he turned around and started screaming at me. He was obviously already drunk, common sight when you work at that kind of place, but I managed to lock him out and he stood at the door screaming for 10 minutes. Man they should have interviewed me lol! I worked for subway in college a couple years ago. I worked right in front of a prison in Texas (Death row to be exact.) all men in any Texas prison get released there. At noon each day there would be tons of people released. We’d always get inmates in there. Many very kind but it was interesting. One time a guy game in right before i left. i don’t judge but I noticed a big roll of cash in his hands and he just looked like a guy i wouldn’t be with. But he kept hitting on me. Finally he asked me for my number, so i asked him for a tip. He laughed and left. Then the next day he came back, and the next and the next. I was making his sandwich one day and he was hitting on me ofcourse and i was uncomfortable each time he came in, i was nervous to put my back to him because i could feel his eyes on my body. Then he pulls out his money to pay and PILLS went EVERYWHERE. Everywhere.... out of his pocket. He then proceeded to ask for a cookie bag to store them in and got on the floor to pick them up. He then asked for a broom to sweep them from under the counter. I swear i was speechless. Everyone else was staring at him. Another story, a man came in right before i was closing. Minutes before. He had been there earlier that day and I had served him. I jokingly made a comment, “didn’t i see you earlier.” He looked at me and was like is there a problem? Why, who wants to know?” And i was like okay sorry. And i was getting his order and he was like “don’t play with my money.” “Don’t you play with my money!” And I’m like okay sir. And he was all paranoid, he was either on drugs or schizophrenic... and then he starts taking pictures of the cameras and i see his hand on his hip and he has a gun. I shakingly check him out. Once he gets his receipt he sees that my name is not on the receipt. I didn’t know why, not sure if it was because it was after hours by then or what but it said a number rather than my name. He made me write my name and was saying you better not be lying about your name. He went to my customer and and said is this her name? And he was like yes and Kinda spooked too. He started talking about how he hated Mexicans (my coworkers was Hispanic and i am mixed) and was pacing and really on a rant for no reason keeping his hand on his hip. I said aloud that i was going to mop the bathroom and instead went to the other side of the store (the gas station) and got my manager and waited in the office until he handled the situation. I quit the next day. Let me add, the scary guy, turned out to be a guy who really had been through some fought stuff growing up. Found an article online about his father shooting his mother in front of him. This may be why he is (most likely) schizophrenic today...

Retail! Got to love it. When I worked in retail I had someone an inch from my face yelling at me for a machine not working. Had a woman yelling at me for “having hatred” towards old people, pregnant women & children because the store didn’t have a public bathroom. I can go on about all kinds of rude people && gross situations I’ve personally dealt with. It’s really disgusting how some people treat others & I am so sorry to anyone who’s currently or has ever dealt with that before. ♥️♥️

I used to work in a small retail store with all female employees and let me tell you, 9pm, when we closed was the scariest time. Any time you heard that door chime at like 8: 58, it was alwaysssssss bad with women or especially men walking in without women or children so I would have definitely called the police if it were me in that Subway. I did quit that job after we were robbed at gunpoint, five minutes before closing. Yeah, just not worth my life.

Subways are honestly such a target for robberies. Especially because there only tends to be 1-2 people in a location at a time. My high school English teacher used to work at a Subway and he said that on multiple occasions, working night shifts, he got robbed at gunpoint. That sounds absolutely terrifying and I’m not about it. It makes me scared to work a night shift anywhere.

i work at subway and my horror story was when i was ringing a customer up and all of a sudden he went into a hysterical coughing fit and he managed to cough out that he was having an asthma attack... i didn’t know what to do so i just asked him: “would you like any chips, drinks or cookies?”

The experience that she shared is the perfect example of why people don't quit the company they are working for, they quit because of the manager or their direct bosses.

one time a former worker that had recently been fired came and was asking for free food my two coworkers that were working that night denied him obviously. then him and his friend hanged around for a little longer. my two coworkers went to the back and were finishing up things when out of nowhere they heard THE SOUND OF THE REGISTER OPENING!!!! they both ran to the front and only caught them running away, they went to the register and saw that he had used his old number to sign into the computer, popped open the register and grabbed all the money that was in there. they called the manager and the next day my manager called his parents (bc he worked there and he had alllll his info 🙄) and threatened to call the cops on him if he didn’t pay it back. what a job :)

i worked at subway in a small town for about 6 months, never really busy unless it was lunchtime on a saturday. Except for soccer tournament days. One day i wake up earlier than usual and see a text from my boss telling me that i needed to come in as soon as possible, which at that point was two hours before my shift was supposed to start. I get there, and we're absolutely slammed, having to refill most of the veggies every 10 minutes or so. until we run out oof cucumbers, like completely run out, none left in the fridge or anything. So my boss says shes going to run to the grocery store to get a bunch of cucumbers and should be back in 30-45 minutes. while my boss was gone, a soccer mom asks for cucumbers on her sub and i tell her that we're out, and she demands we look in the back because apparently she really NEEDED these cucumbers on her sub. she got mad, i was over it, she eventually gave up on her cucumbers. fun part was that my boss didnt even get back until about two hours after she left and by that time all of the soccer tournament people were gone.

One of the worst jobs to work in is in a subway. The pay is really bad, the treatment by superiors or horrible, customers treat you worse, and many times you get wage theft going on from no paid overtime -money you’ll never see again. If you’re a teenager looking for work look elsewhere I’ve been there trust me you don’t want that

My subway horror story is that I interviewed, was told on the spot that I was hired and they would contact me within a week with which store I was being placed at. A week goes by, a week and a half goes by, I call the lady who interviewed me. She tells me yes I'm hired, sends me some paperwork to fill out and says I'll have my placement soon. Long story short I got ghosted by subway because they insisted I was hired but *never* gave me a store to work at
