Hi Ben, With your empty tanks run a sharp blade up inside the rim and outside then hit it. By just hitting it you’re fighting against a lot of silicon. Great tanks enjoyed the tour. Regards Duzzy🇦🇺
@BenOchartАй бұрын
Thanks DuzzyDobbin! It doesn’t say to do that in the “Over the Edge” instruction video, but it makes sense and certainly worth trying before scrapping the entire project.
@robertjohnston25Ай бұрын
@@BenOchartif you can’t get a blade up there, I used a metal drywall mudding blade.

Hey friend! When I’m resealing tanks and replacing frames, I use a thin disposable razor that you can extend. I use it to cut the silicone on both the inside and outside. Once doing that it should break free kinda easy.

Hey, this is just a beautiful setup of fish tanks. Love what you are doing 😊.

Some cory cats would look real nice in your community tank.

There are 5 very camera corys in there. I'll make a point of pointing them out next time.

My 75g top frame pulled apart like yours. JB weld on empty tank worked for me. I even added extra bracing.

I've never removed a rim from a tank but aren't they silicone on somewhat? Did you cut the bead of silicone from the inside? I might even try and cut near a corner of the plastic with a razor blade, just make several cuts slowly until you break through the plastic and then you'd have something to get ahold of. Just food for thought since I haven't done it myself.

Ben, Do you have a heat gun? You could use that on the lowest settings just to get it warm and maybe use a strong putty knife to slip in between the glass and the black rim and kind of twist it to see if you can pop it loose. I know heat guns work well at warming up the silicone or glue that they use on the rims. I recommend the lowest setting though so you don’t melt the plastic. I don’t know if you were able to catch the PetSmart black Friday weekend sale but they were selling the Fluval filters 40 percent off. Well they had an early bird sale that they would take 100 bucks off the sale price for each filter. I was able to get a fx 6 brand new for 167 bucks. I couldn’t believe it. I also bought a 207 and a 407. All three filters together were a little over 300 bucks and free shipping. Awesome sale for fish keepers. I am also going to be starting up an MBUNA tank. My 100 gal tall tank is perfect for them. So I am finally getting into AF cichlids. Appreciate the updates Ben.

With the closing up of Elite Cichlids, do you have another recommended place for aquarium plants for African Cichlid tanks?
@carlcummings767Ай бұрын
You should heat that room instead of the individual tanks, it would use much less energy. A mini split would really be the way to go, just saying...

@@BenOchart Ben, I was wondering if you ever installed the mini split. I'm the one that told you about my husband ordering one from Costco and installing it himself with the exception of hiring an electrician. Heat and air conditioning. I think it's the best money we've ever spent on our house. It's especially great in the summer here in Phoenix. 😊

I always enjoy your fish room tours & updates , thanks for sharing..... I have a question for you Ben, what made you decide on 77-78 degrees as the tank temps... why not 79-80 degrees or even a bit higher ? ...I keep all my tanks between 79-79.5 degrees for no reason, i just thought it was a good temp. looking forward to your response.. cheers

Hey Ben! Its that time of year my friend, and I was curious if you or any subscribers were planning on giving any "Hobby" gifts this year? Fish, plants, food, tanks, etc?? Im giving my Aunt a little 10G with some Neon & Ember Tetra, a koi betta, and a couple snails as my secret Santa gift. (So much for that $25 limit 😂) Really its for all of my cousins kids to enjoy. My aunt has managed to keep a betta alive in a little 2.5g for over a year now, and all 9 of those kids love that fish to death even though he just stays in the corner. Figured it was time for her to get an upgrade, and I'm getting her through the hard part. I used seeded sand/rocks/fake plants and the HOB from my 10g thats been rolling over a year. Going to be hard to give it away because its quite cute, maybe they'll tell me know and I can hand her a $20 😅😅 Sorry for the book Ben, hope you and the fam had a good turkey day and are ready for a good Christmas. Thanks for keeping us entertained during the busy season .

Also I didn't know if it would be alright to email you a little video to get your opinion? Believe I have the correct address from winning an Aquar Co op gift card a couple years back.
