If you want money you’ve got to get on offense.
I was raised on the “defense of finances” strategy. It made me act cheap for years. Not spending or investing in what I should and being miserable.
I was taught that way because that’s what my mother knew. But you can’t win a boxing match or a soccer game without going on the offense. To win, you have to go for the knockout or the goal.

I agree. Cheap people are the worst. Really draining to be around. Whilst they might believe they are freeing themselves from having to worry about money by being super frugal and "abandoning" the grind, their lives are actually more consumed by money than anyone else. Their argument is the rich man has to work hard and is always thinking about money, but the rich man loves the process. The poor man is the one who is always thinking about finances. Can I make rent? Can I afford to eat out? My friends are eating out but I don't want to have to pay, what should I do? I have to pay for parking. Can I afford a car? Poor people are the ones whose thoughts have to constantly revolve around money and they are limiting their experiences in life by doing so. People might say eating out is a waste of money but I disagree. Eating out can be a very social activity, whether it's with business clients, friends, family or co-workers. It can also be a celebratory event. Sometimes eating out is an experience too. Trying a new highly rated restaurant or trying a new type of food. It's also a cultural thing to experience different foods from around the world. You think events, company, experience, culture... but the poor pessimist just thinks dollars. Who is more consumed by money? My motto has always been just make more fucking money. Of course I'm not buying $5000 Gucci sweaters, but I'm not a cheap bastard trying to eliminate a $1 coffee every morning to save $30 a month. Poor man thinks "I don't NEED coffee". Offensive go getter thinks, "Yes I don't NEED it, but what is $1 to enhance my morning and possibly the day overall?". Get your money up and live your life.

O had mixed feelings wile reading your answer to Grant’s content, but you nailed it really well. I saw some people (a few indeed) goes from U$ 0 to U$ 20M and back to (near) U$ 0 during a time span of 20/25 years. Their mistake? Spending money buying several fancy cars paying cash for each one of them (U$ 300k MB for instance), establishing multiple luxury residences all over the country, chartering planes for intercontinental travels with family and friend etc. I had also a friend who made U$ 100M in three years and spent it all buying properties, exquisite antiques and jewelry, an second hand airplane (incredible high costs to maintain it monthly) etc. Last time I was with him he was kind of desperately searching someone to lend him U$ 300k to pay his monthly expense... craziness. But your point is absolutely right. Don’t refrain yourself of spending money with some smaller things, since those disbursements are ‘peanuts’, but please; don’t go into a fancy store and buy a U$ 5k sweater... that could be the ‘beginning of the end’. Invest your money to make more money. Learn to distinguish real assets from liabilities. Thank you for sharing your experience and point of views.
