Im 38, I know it may not be that much to others that might be older but I just cant shake this feeling of having wasted so much time, and ive spent the last 3 years loosing everything.. last 2-3 years I have felt like life has taken it upon itself to give me a beating for some reason,Failed business attempts, I lost my good paying job 2 and a half years ago and been struggling week to week ever since not being able to land on my feet professionally, Finances are abysmal,by using all my time to try to improve my situation I detached and slowly lost the few relationships I had leaving me completely isolated, my wife left me, I’ve had such a tough time bouncing back and finding meaning again,creating new goals, cant figure out who I am…. I hope to find the strength and wisdom to move forward, if you are struggling for any reason, know you are not alone, try not to give up.. I still want to believe it can get better….

Remeber this...... You are not your past… You are not your mistakes… You are not your failures… You are not who you were yesterday… You are not even who you were this morning… You are who you decide to become! Who you COMMIT to become. Life is like being a farmer. Going through hard & difficult times makes you better and stronger then you were even tho you may feel more vulnerable. You are a victim of the sunk cost fallacy. You can't improve the life you have now because most of your energy is used to mourn your past life. The things you lost and the time you wasted can't be gotten back or replaced. And honestly it doesn't matter. Cuz there's nothing you can do to change the past unless your life goal is to build a time machine. So to start bettering your life, you have to put ALL your mental capacity and energy into starting from where u are and going up from there. But you'll never do that when half of your attention is on what u lost in the past. So if you want practical steps (purely based on my opinion): 1. Forgive yourself for letting your life get to where it is. Every man has this point in their lives, and it's what they do after this point that decides how the rest of your life will be 2. After forgiving, write down all the mistakes you think you made. And instead of using it as a weapon against yourself. Use it as a roadmap. Any decision you make from now on, you consult the list and make sure it's not the same mistake you already made. 3. Then figure out what you WANT to do. Really think deep about it and what it will take to get there. 4. Make a list of these things you want to accomplish and what kind of person do you think would accomplish those goals. 5. Make a list of small, manageable steps you can do everyday that if you take those steps it would be unreasonable for you not to become that person 6. Get to work

Behind what in life ???? Social standards of wealth or social standards or morality. I see it as if you find your path earlier or later that doesn’t matter as much as you found your path. Were you true to yourself and is that path actually yours or did you get so excited that a trail was visible that you didn’t access it properly. Finding one’s calling can happen from childhood or much later in life so what makes it turn out worth it at the end of that path. Money. Money doesn’t work when you’re on that path so why proceed??? There’s a beginning and there’s a end but what that can’t happen without what’s coming from inside of all of us

For me it’s the progress I loss from the drugs, the psychedelics scrambled my brains and little tasks each day seem hard and a lot of autonomic responses that made me who I am. It made me go from happy enjoying life to the fullest to feeling like I’ve lost everything I am. Time will tell if I get through this and I’m only 24 but I feel like i fucked up the most important growth time period of my life

OMG you make me cry. My heart goes out to you. I have no text for you but I wish I could take you in my arms and wrap you in immense soft thick angel wings. Discomfort and irritation in life is the call to movement. Lay off the past. Connect with yourself as you are. You’re so worth it. You are made of the material of the universe. You are a miracle. The top of evolution. And if you believe, find a moment of acceptance of who you are now. No lion without scars and cuts. Signs of struggle. Pray. May you feel better and better.

I joined the military and left early at 19. 2a. I became a drunk and an addict. Destroyed my first marriage and was lost. At 32, had a religious experience and woke up. But things didn't change, I just realized what I was doing was wrong. Things got harder. Finally met someone else got married and had a kid.. things got harder still. The only thing that saved me was the grace of god, and adding to the load. Now I'm closing on 44. I own a heating and air company and starting a new company. I still have problems.. But it's the weight of responsibility, that keeps me on the path and something I wouldn't change for anything in the world.

For those of you who think you wasted so much time. I will tell you I fought my ass off to build myself twice. I’m work on my third time around. Currently I am at the top of my field… My expertise is sought out everyday. I’m still messed up so bad on the inside. I fight everyday to feel like I’m good enough. The best advice I can tell you at 42 years old is keep fighting. Never give up. Believe in God and do his will. From time to time I feel I’m enough. Those moments are worth the struggle. NEVER GIVE UP! You’re worth more than you know. I hope my words, like Dr. Peterson’s, will propel you forward.

Funny story about that..when I was in college, there was a panel held for four entrepreneurs. 3 men 1 women all in their 40s or 50s. All of them were doing very well making at least 6 figures with their business. The first question we were asked was how many years ago do we think they started their business...we all said things ranging from 7 to 10+ years ago. We were all wrong. They laughed and one said I started last year, another said 3 years ago. You get the point. Then they mentioned how it wasn't until they got that age they figured out what they wanted to do with their lives and dropped a statistic that the majority of entrepreneurs are actually in their 40s when they start. You just have to start.

What would you say if I said I was content? For the most part, I am happy. I'm not ecstatic, or giddy, or smiling all the time...I am content, even in a sometimes nostalgic kind of way. This one size fits all "go and find your purpose" isn't for everyone, well at least not for me. I have a couple of hobbies I am happy with. I have one or two friends, but we don't see each other all that often. I'm not married, and I am quite content. Marriage made me unhappy. Seeking that level of success, or finding the RIGHT women built in me a level of angst, a painful sadness that didn't seem to me healthy. I am healthier today than I was in my 30's, 40's. A major contributor to my contentment is a surrender of my egotistical will, a willingness to live life as it comes, detaching from this kind of silent expectation that things ought to go my way...which almost always led to an emotional crisis. Finding something I wanted was almost always too extreme, especially in women. My financial future was the same. So, when I started to let go, detach, wave as the plane left, I settled in, I became happy, but not without a lot of withdrawal. So, are you sure your "fixing" your life strategy is the best thing to do? For me, there is no fixing, there is only accepting life on life's terms. I quit complaining, I stopped crying, I requited my expectations for renewed energy, especially emotional energy. To me, this is a lot healthier.

@davidspringer4019 I agree with surprising exactness to everything you've just said. On the surface, it may have an appearance of surrender, a giving up of things, but it surely is not. It's more like the contented quietude of the warrior during peacetime or talks, cease-fire holds, etc... Something i wrote a few years ago as i was entering and coming to understand this phase of my life, which was based on something Dr. Peterson said about how you need to respect yourself in the sense that you're a monster, potentially, at any given moment of crisis. This is it, i'm quoting myself here: "In order to be a controlled monster, one needs the ability to develop monstrous control. And, to never tire of developing it." - b. Hill Feb 2021 I don't know if this means anything to you, but i hear something strikingly similar in what you've said here. That was brave of you to be honest. Probably why you got trolled for it. Figures. You shut them up nicely tho. Way to go, pilgrim🎉 Happy trails to you🙃

It's cause you can't escape your own knowledge of your own let downs. The most successful person in the world feels it too. Its in our own minds playing on ourselves. Welcome to infinite potential, the greatest gift that leads to the biggest disappointment. You'll never reach it cause truly the destination isn't the key. The travel is guys. 27, here. I kind of know what I am good at and I know a lot of things I'm not good at. Because I've experienced it. I think it doesn't matter if you're good at what you're choosing. I think you should choose something that's interesting to you. Something you enjoy(or enjoyed as a kid) and try that. If you like what you do, if you feel good about the thing you do, you will get good at it. Talent is not helping you, it's just a small headstart. Dedication and time is. We tend to see the success of others, but not the struggle that get them there. Even I am unsure. But you know what? I've seen some older people than me who seem confident and good in what they're doing. After talking to them in honest privacy, I got to know they are not sure either. So at what age are we supposed to have it figured out? At what age have we learned all the lessons we need in order to be done with learning? That's an illusion. There is always something to learn. Always something we have never considered before. We are not supposed to have it all figured out. If we set our goal at learning ways and strategys of behavior for our life and our emotions, we will find it easier to deal with the never ending lessons and challenges life throws at us. That's a constant. And it can be exhausting. But that's the way Life is and we have to work with what we got. This is just my personal opinion. I wish you the very best and please remember: It doesn't have to be a straight line.

I'll be 47 in 2mo. I don't have a solid career. I've tried and tried and hadnt given up. Recently, I've started to just NOT anymore. I'm a hard worker and have a strong work ethic. Living where I do is not ideal for making a living. I can't move due to my wife's family in the area (her mother). She expects me to fond work and Sav money to build a house. I cannot leave the house because of my wife's health. Wtf am I suppose to do? Her health is depleting, nobody else can help her but me. I can't be in two places at once. It's unrealistic. So may times I've stared into the barrel of my pistol. Still..it's my fault. The VA has given me a 90% disability rating. I ca barely move as it is. What am I to do?

Thanks for honoring freedom of speech. Being that Jordan preaches from either his Catholic or Protestant bible ... he MUST believe that if you are not one or the other ... you can't BE fixed before it's too late for your souls to be saved. From the book … THE QUOTABLE SKEPTIC: Bits of Wisdom From Notable Heretics and Apostates … author Jehovah Yahweh “Assure a man that he has a soul and then frighten him with old wives’ tales as to what is to become of him afterward, and you have hooked a fish, a mental slave.” ~ Theodore Dreiser.

I became adult and followed others, made mistakes, was told I'm a loser and won't amount to anything fast forward to today I don't own anything nor do I have stable income yet I am still happy. imagine that I have lost so much yet I'm happy yet people withonmuch say I'm a loser.......... 😅

All problems start with not knowing/not accepting who we truly are. What we truly are dosen't want that. The is just one beeing,Call it god,that lives though everyone...and in every mind takes a different personality, like a mask,and play pretend. The thing is that we want solutions to problems...but we want the problems...and once you find a solution another problem pops up,and so on...I mean imagine going in the world and you would know everyone is you,every thought that any mind thought...beeing in all bodys at the same time and knowing...first you might think...this is amazing...but then you will feel as if only you exist,witch is true,but borring. So you are trying to fix something that you pretend is broken. You,God, are nuts! but at the same time what else would you do? Playing hide and seek sice the beginning of time,only that you don't hide in places,but behind different fictional identitys with the help of the beautiful mind...."ohhh I am Alex, you are Jhon" play pretend,because delusions are more adventureous than reality, that's why we have stories,and films and all bullshit society. YOU ARE GOD,AND ONLY YOU EXIST,ALONE!

Torture by my counciounss? I have a lot of respect for Petterson,but I guess an enlighten beeing sees something a pshycologist fail to see: Mind...Whatever you say or do will record it,and then play it in your head. Is just memorie! Now you(the ego,the person,the ideea of who you are in your head) when it sees the memorie it starts judgeing the interaction good or bad,usally when is bad is looking for an excuse,and when is good it prasis the memorie. The mind is there to listen,and rainforce that memorie with what story you atach to the particular interaction, and then it plays it whenever the same kind of interaction happends. Is how learing works. I stoped jugeing my memories of my acctions,so bye bye counciousness. I did expect him to know how this stuff works.... I mean no one ever looked close what the hell is gooing on in thier head,and how everything works?
@Keepcalm.fighton82
@Keepcalm.fighton82 3 ай бұрын
What are you judging the interaction based on? You have to be comparing it to something. Or you're not judging you're just recalling. And I'm not sure what exactly you would call the system that is doing the judging that is separate from your mind. I guess you can call it whatever you want. He prefers to call it conscience. The first thing that comes to my mind when I remember an event or something I said would be the outcome. Based on that outcome I would know whether or not to use what I said or did in the future in order to improve my life or increase my chances of survival.

Having consciousness and memories of our mistakes and our problems is exactly what makes us better people as we grow. He explains it all very well. The mind is the battlefield! I always think about a garden when times hit my conscience that I’m not proud of. You plant good seed to grow good fruit Although the weeds get in and choke out the good IF you don’t pull them ( nothing fruitful grows ) If you want a beautiful good garden ( the mind ) you must pull out the weeds! Everyone alive goes through good and bad and it’s the war ( the battlefield) in our own mind that we are at war with. Obviously you were strong enough to get through all that you have been through. The best way to get yourself off your mind is to be and or do good for someone else that is going through what you have already been through. Instead of saying by by conscious “ Say hello and let’s do this! Figure out what was right or wrong with what part you played in what weighs in on your consciences and use it to help others by owning the wrong you have done and learned from all that memories. The saying of never look back to your past Unless it’s to benefit you or others. There is a reason the windshield is so much larger than the rearview mirror!

@@Keepcalm.fighton82 the one that is doing the judeging is your personality, first. Then mind copys your judegeing of the interaction, and then plays it back. You did something...mind brings it to you, and then you judge it,then mind copy the whole thing then it brings it back as a whole. Is dumb to think is counciousness when in fact is you own doing. I mean is not really you...is you the one who program the mind to do that, and just like a computer it dose exactly that...because you have a lot of thoughts, and you don't remember exactly the point in time when you did it if feels like someone in your head is judgeing you, councciousness...that is nuts! I remember every single program that I put in my mind, because I have a sistem in my head that simplifys everything and links it to a point in time when something happend and I decided to program my mind. Like the saying" the devil is in detail"... thinking should be based on truth, what is real, then takeing in consideration most of tge possibilitis, and comming to a simple response. That is how mind should be use. Instead people talk to their mind as if it would be them. Imagine if you would believe that your computer, chatgbt is you... and instead of using it as a tool now because you told it is you it acts like you, and you love it, because no one will understamd you bette, I mean is great! Your own best friend,but that is not how one should use the mind. So just as every inteligent sistem if missuse, it starts to fail...mass depression, because the lies in the head don't fit reality, skizofrenia, identity isues, etc...all mental desieses come from a missuse of mind. And ugly truth is that the ones who knows how to use the mind, they will never want to set people free, because the profit of them. Don't you think is fuuny that no one ever thought you how mind works, and how one should use it? The matrix...is made out of your own thoughts, identity is a cage. You have to be who your mind says till death...best cage...you can't feel it, you can't thouch it, you can't see it. How to get out? ...

ok. So your personality, which is what exactly? Judges? So you're saying every aspect of Who You Are basically is judging. Then your mind sends a copy back to you, which I'm assuming is the same thing as your personality? Then your mind makes another copy and brings it back as a whole to your personality? I'm just trying to make sense of this it seems you're using different words for the same thing. I could be wrong. You lost me with a lot of the other stuff, but for example, I only see the me, without the imperfections of my mistakes, as a judge. Seeing what is possible in yourself without the mistakes you have made and all the effects you have had on others seems like judge to me. What could have been can drive people mad. Especially if you're not wise and refuse to learn. For me, at least. I'm sure everyone is different, though.
