Self control makes the person. A person without discipline is someone full of reactions, rather than a person of good actions. No person is free who cannot control themselves.

I didn't drink at all for about 5 years. Then, because I'd never had alcoholic tendencies, I thought perhaps I'd have a couple of beers (tall cans). The first one felt and tasted awesome, and the second made me feel drunk. I felt hung over the next day, which sucked; but the WORST was the generalized anxiety I felt for a couple of days. It was AWFUL, and now I won't drink at all again.

Absolutely loved this insightful video by Andrew Huberman on building a powerful mindset for success! 💡 It reminded me of a great Stoic quote: 'The mind that is anxious about future events is miserable.' - Seneca. How do you all practice staying present and focused in your daily lives? Let's share our tips and experiences! 😊

I'll add that, yes, it does. However, motivation comes and goes and is not lasting. Discipline goes beyond motivation. To wait till I'm motivated to do and get something done - or to wait till I feel like it - it might never get done if the motivation to get it done never comes. With discipline, whether if I'm motivated to get it done or not, I'm still gonna get it done. Discipline beats motivation. Every. Single. Time.

stress is like the boogieman, it's only real if you believe in it. Think about it this way. No two people have the same stress response meaning that if stress does exist, then we all have different things that activate it, and if that is true then there cannot be stress because there is no standard definition for stress, like I said, stress is only real if you believe in it. Otherwise your just coming up with coping strategies like Huberman is suggesting.

Exactly, no two people have the same stress response, for example, a germaphobe vs most of the world, who dont get stressed by germs. But, i think the key word is belief, and I would think it has to be a genuine one. (Very well said btw)

MINDSET... WTF IS THAT? OH WAIT IT'S JUST A WORD.... IT HAS NO MEANING.. THERE IS NO SUCH THING IN NATURE AS A MINDSET. YOU CAN'T LOOK IN YOUR BRAIN AND SEE YOUR MINDSET... FOOLERY.. OH AN D BY THE WAY, THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS STRESS... ONLY CONDITIONS THAT LEAD TO SENSATION THAT WE CALL STRESS.... WE'VE ALL BEEN DUPED.

It's a loose term used to define higher order entrenched pathways that are subconscious due to set patterning, genetics, group influence at differing levels of interaction and other constructs Of course you cannot look into the brain to see 'mindset', for a start it's not a static happening, and just like in physics where you measure an electron fully by taking it's position and it's velocity but never the two at the same time, so it is with mindset being something you can talk about in the instant but also requires looking to influences over time that formed the patterns No different in lots of ways to architypes in the Bible, which are higher order principals that unfold over time and at different points in circumstances in history but totally escape those who think all they are reading is just words on a page. People have literally been frightened to death over a mindset too or some kingdoms have yielded up power when a ruler waltzed in at the right 'time' and matched people's perception of what they perceived as a ruler fulfilling history and thus having the rights to rule over them Mindsets play out over and over in history, we just had one over covid, where so many fell for the mass formation to the point of demonizing those who refused that were eventually proven right. Wikipedia lists literally hundreds of these events over 100's of years I can't be bothered unfolding it more than this even though there's other examples of mindset As to your statement that there is no such thing as stress, that is somewhat incomplete and simplistic. Ultimately stress is the patterned response to events, there is still some truth to stress in terms of perceived loss. Long ago, before humans developed the concept of stored wealth, stress was pretty much relegated to whether the thing in the dark was going to eat me or not, so life was determined by immediate events. But humans didn't leave it there, they developed the concept of stored wealth and by extension, survival mitigation through creating larger and larger buffers to separate an everyday existence with increasing chances of survival by storing wealth, be it food, Gold and now fiat currencies The notion of losing these stores of wealth very much does cause people 'stress' depending on how much wealth and security the person perceives is tied into that wealth. A young person having their wallet stolen with $100 inside is far less of a stressor than an elderly person getting hit with a scam that wipes out their entire life's savings and they have no ability to regain those resources again in what's left of their life. It is very much tied into the persons perception of whether or not they can reclaim that lost wealth You can try and philosophize stress away as much as we like and I think it is healthy to look at it like it is ultimately a construct but it is measurable at an individuals level Stress Horses for Courses
