A Steven Spielberg directed Bond film would have been interesting. Especially made back when Spielberg was still in his peak era.

Honestly, one of the movies I'm most excited for right now is Spielberg' upcoming sci-fi film. It seems like a real return to classic Spielberg.

A blessing in disguise tbh. We probably wouldn't have Indiana Jones if that happened.
@Syntopikon3 күн бұрын
@@Indeeee Yup. I think that's pretty much a guarantee. Spielberg got to live out his dream of directing Bond after all lol

David Lynch: "I won't do straight sci-fi" Also David Lynch: directs Dune immediately after

Lol, I've always found that odd as well. I'm guessing it's because Star Wars was such a particular kind of phenomenon.

He may have felt that Dune was more Literary Si-Fi (read “serious”) as opposed to Pop-Corn Si-Fi (Star Wars, ET, Close Encounters, etc).

3:34 That quote from Spielberg was kind of a jaw dropper for me. I respect the heck out of his turning Harry Potter down because his heart wouldn’t have been in it, even though it would have made him a ton of money.

6:17 Mann probably wanted Mexican gangs because the original script had an act that played out the NSA espionage storyline which William Goldman famously advised Affleck and Damon to remove

Over the years leading up to the original or prequel trilogy, Lucas tried so hard for his friends or renowned directors to come on board for SW movies. Guy hates directing that much I guess
@Syntopikon3 күн бұрын
Yup. Directing the first Star Wars burned him out quite a bit. It's part of why he farmed off the duties to Irvin Kershner and Richard Marquand for Empire & Return.
@AllTradesGeorge3 күн бұрын
It's a shame...those movies would have benefitted from a more objective director that would ask, "Yeah, I know we CAN show all that...but should we?" and would insist on rewrites for some of the more wooden dialogue... Lucas is a man of incredible vision...but he's at his best with someone filtering his work.
@Syntopikon3 күн бұрын
@@AllTradesGeorge Yup. That time around, he had pretty much no push back. To an extent, the Star Wars prequels are the Lucas-est of all the Star Wars movies.
