For this jam, I asked Mike to musically portray a Rhino who was having a good day, but then something bad would happen. The rhino would then then seek revenge. I think he did a good job. Being a long time Les Paul owner, I've often wondered why Gibson always seems to mess with near perfection. Screw the robot tuners and dip switches. But contour cuts and that axcess heel? Makes me actually desire a NEWER LP. I would not complain if these became standard features of the Les Paul line. Now, if only Gibson would utilize a tapered headstock, similar to PRS, to eliminate the potential for string binding at the nut, they would pretty much fix the issues that steer many players away from a Les Paul - comfort AND tuning stability, and the Les Paul would reign supreme for another half century!
@markpell89792 жыл бұрын
Ditto on all points. Overpriced, should be a Gib catalog item in a lower price class with some color options. Or how about an Epi LP modern with axcess neck joint etc.

This is how they need to start making Les Paul's. They can still have the Tradition,Classic and Reissues, made the old way. But I think any other model including the Studio's and Faded models should be made this way.

I swear Gibson has had their heads up their asses for decades. It is so easy to contour a body/neck joint. There's no reason beyond laziness that could explain why all Les Pauls aren't shaped like this at the heal.
@Wargasm6443 жыл бұрын
It’s called “consumer base”. Most of the Gibson clientele want traditional specs and appearances. I like both. But lean towards contemporary. That’s why I own Gibson’s and ESP’s . But Gibson has plenty of modern spec’d guitars if you want one. It has nothing to do with Gibson being lazy.

Not a fan of the finish, as someone else said it looks like primer and not a proper finish. I like the Apex volute but the Axcess neck joint went the other direction as far as style. The comfort carve on a Custom is a huge ergonomic improvement. I personally think Gibson only got it half right with these. Finish wise I'd rather have seen a gloss translucent gray over figured maple. I have something similar, a 2018 Modern Les Paul Custom "Heartwood" series. It has the Apex volute and Comfort Carve belly scarf with a traditional long tenon neck joint. Highly figured heartwood maple cap and the entire guitar is finished in an antique wine red. Mine came with Custom Buckers, '59 medium C neck profile, all hide glue construction, hand wired harness, CTS 500k audio taper pots, reissue frets, ebony board, Nashville ToM, Grover locking tuners, etc. It's a phenomenal guitar and for me the perfect blend of Gibson traditional and modern. Ergonomically it feels and plays like a modern guitar, but the vibe is pure vintage like an old violin. I loved my Standard, but this is definitely a WAY nicer instrument on so many levels. What I really appreciate about it is the vintage vibe without vintage problems and the artistry it took to achieve it. It also had the most perfectly cut nut I've ever seen on a new guitar and that includes my PRS McCarty 594. Say whatever you want about Gibson, but when they get it right nothing else compares. It's not something that shows up on paper. You can't really put your finger on it, because it's a "vibe" that resonates with the heart... not the brain :)
