The only citrus I currently own came up from seed. It’s from a wild calamondin I found loaded with fruit. I ate the fruit and tossed the seeds in my yard. The tree shows no signs of citrus greening, and even leaf miners are completely avoiding it. The leaves are a very deep green. It grows astoundingly fast. It’s only a couple of years old and has reached up to the roof already. I have it mainly just so the swallowtail caterpillars can occasionally feed on some of its leaves.

Another fantastic video Paul, excellent information from Katherine I will definitely try the traps. I have a Sugarbelle in 15 gallon and the only fight I have is leaf miners however Pyrethrin is working so far, to acidify the soil for my Sugarbelle and mango trees I use Epsoma soil acidifier.

The problem with sticky traps is lizards get in them as well. I took them out when I saw a lizard stuck in one. I saved the lizard's life and threw away all the sticky traps.

I'm also growing a Sugar Belle in container here in Miami. Haven't had any problems with bugs, even though the lime tree next to it has leaf miners I'm trying to take out with neem oil. The Sugar Belle is a very thirsty tree, it dries out the ten gallon container very quick.
@ricardo15222 ай бұрын
Neem will not work unfortunately, the only thing that works so far is Pyrethrin.
@onortosu2 ай бұрын
So am I but the leaf miners are killing me. The only thing I've found to work is Imidacloprid but you have to use it every few months. I'm not sure you can do that if you want to eat the fruit.
@ricardo15222 ай бұрын
@@onortosu Pyrethrin is actually just a plant toxin, you could also switch the the pheromone traps mentioned in the video, miners usually go after the new growth so when you see the tree about to push you apply the trap or use the spray. I usually also clip off the affected leaves when I can and burn or throw them in my trash bags and tie them so when they emerge they die.
@crackyflipside2 ай бұрын
@@ricardo1522 I am gonna try spinosad pesticide (Captain Jack's Deadbug Brew) since it can be sprayed on organic produce. I will still spray the neem oil and hope that the leaf holds it long enough to absorb into the leaf.
@ricardo15222 ай бұрын
@@crackyflipside nice, just be carful with neem as it can burn the leaves if mixed too strong or applied in direct sun, it can also block the pores on the leaves.
