It’s like what Rhea said, Shiv’s not nearly as smart as she thinks she is. It was stupid of her to threaten Greg. Greg’s not scared of her. Nobody is scared of the kids. People fear Logan. Without him the children have no power of their own.
@red297710 ай бұрын
He is scared of her when she has power. The reason he crossed her was because he realized that she was being cut out and with her power gone she was no longer a threat to him. Shiv thinks she is slicker than she is. She is a terrible liar and the other characters often end up seeing thru her.

Logan, Kendall, and Tom were all smart enough to know you have to pay Greg off for his loyalty. Shiv is an idiot and doesn’t understand that so instead opts to give him an empty threat. Had she paid him off, he wouldn’t have snitched.
@Spaced9210 ай бұрын
The problem is she is smart. Greg isn't scared, but he's stupid, Shiv was always going to hang around the company and not be someone you'd want to cross either way, she had her eggs in both baskets. Remember when Greg tried to extort Logan? He got slapped down in a very similar way, you don't just ask for vague benefits, the only difference is Logan is one of the two people Greg would just listen to, the other being Tom. I don't think her blackmail of Greg was the misstep people think it is. If anything playing both sides got exposed in a fairly unrealistic way.

@@Spaced92 You really don't think it would have been better to offer Greg, the person with leverage, at least something rather than just throwing around empty threats? Come on. Also just because a news agency calls the election doesn’t mean it’s over especially if the other networks don’t call it. There’s going to be lawsuits and recounts and if you get it this wrong it destroys your credibility. Shiv screwed up with Greg trying to cosplay tough Logan. And to find out that his own sister had been manipulating and lying to him to get the other guy the company and to cut Ken out? None of the characters are good people. They are all selfish and I don't think Ken was being stupid here. He made the only move that he could make in his interest he would lose the company if he went with the other guy. I hope this is not an inappropriate comment, but here in Mexico, we talk about politics freely; nothing is taboo.
@meteorjuice408810 ай бұрын
Mencken isn’t necessarily a representation of Trump, he’s too smart for that. He’s more like a representation of the growing sentiment of conservative white supremacist-authoritarian voices that blew up in American politics because Trump paved away to make their opinions more popular. Mencken is a fictional human version of that, and more sinister. American politics is very divisive now, the people who hate him do think he’s a fascist, but half the country still supports Trump which is crazy, so “average American” is hard to say, but the ones who hate him do think he’s a fascist (which I agree with, if only because he tried to steal the last election). It’s sad to me that Mexicans like Trump because Trump has zero care for people outside the US and not even care for the US people, he only cares about his reputation and his ego and himself.

Why on Gods green earth do Mexicans like him when Trump has shat on Mexicans at every turn… as to your question: Trump is a wannabe fascist except he lacks the balls and brains. As for Mencken: I think he is a bit of a warning, an example of a fascist who is actually capable and has the brains and balls Trump wishes he had. @@red2977 yeah, she obviously wants things to go her way concerning mattson. Then when she’s played all her cards and loses,she tries to appeal to others by saying “but you’re hurting the country”. Total phony. Self interest comes way before the so called wellbeing of the country

This episode showcases Shiv's selfishness pretty well too honestly. She acts disgusted but ultimately she chose pushing the deal through over calling it for Jimenez. Ken was ready to side with her then she lied.

The irony of this episode talking about nuclear war.. And everyone was afraid of trump.... I'm from the future. The show hit it on the head just picked the wrong party

Shiv is by far the worst and most annoying character on the show. You can slam Ken and Roman, that’s fine, they are surely morons. But Shiv is the worst.

Most contrived, worst-written episode in the series....typical liberal fear porn playing on all the delusional tropes. It was cringe moralizing about a fictional election from the perspective of an extremely liberal British writer (Jessie Armstrong) who know nothing about U.S. politics apart from the BBC, CNN, etc. I'm not saying this as a conservative but the heavy-handed, over-the-top subtext (this is about Trump, fascism, Nazis, etc.) was just so lazy and pathetic. It could have been done with more subtlety and less melodrama (as if the normally cold Shiv is suddenly a crying SJW...give me a break.) Of course Armstrong wants to comment on the 2016 election for which he's clearly obsessed, but there's more sophisticated ways of doing it and it felt totally disjointed from the other episodes. Ugh..pure cringe. This was like the last couple episodes of Game of Thrones when it dropped off...hopefully the final 2 are redeemable.

It is hard to take anyone seriously when every election is the end of the world, for realsies this time. It makes me lose respect for someone as a serious person.
