"Because my dad told me to." That line is so underrated af. One, yes, his dad did tell him to do it but it's also a fuck you to Lawrence for not supporting him in the no confidence vote which would have gotten rid of his dad. Also, Kendall pounded the table for Vaulter but Logan was always skeptical of the company yet Lawrence never took Kendall seriously or respected him. So, this was Kendall's big FU to Lawrence thus the "find another chicken coop" line.
@BatmanHQYT Жыл бұрын
I never considered the no confidence vote here, brilliant catch.
@SuperScarface83 Жыл бұрын
The tragic irony that Lawrence never seemed to realize is that, in failing to support Kendall in the first season, he effectively doomed Vaulter. Not because Kendall was vindictive and would kill Vaulter in revenge --- even in this episode, Kendall was still fighting for Vaulter because the acquisition of Vaulter was one of his biggest goals while he was in charge. Instead, Lawrence doomed Vaulter because his petty refusal to support Kendall's leadership led to the ouster of the biggest cheerleader that Vaulter had on Waystar Royco's Board of Directors.

The more I rewatch the scene, the more it makes me realize that Roman could never do what Kendall just did. Standing before an entire business and firing every single employee without stuttering is not at all something Roman could do. He couldn’t even vote against Logan during the vote of no confidence.

That's the poetry of it all. Kendall would have fought tooth and nail to keep Vaulter afloat had he been in charge of the company, and he would have been in charge had Lawrence sided with him for the Vote of No Confidence. I think it's a pretty dead-on representation of cunty corporate management. I've been in situations like this before; not content with driving companies into the ground with completely useless leadership, they'll fire you in an impersonal way -- you either turn up to find the doors locked with a notice on the door (can't risk the proles walking away with a laptop or whatever), or they contract an external party to lay off the team as they can't face the responsibility (or just don't give a fuck). Platitudes abound. Meanwhile, the people in charge will either continue to draw fat salaries or fail upwards into another job. Even though he's a complete prick in this scene, at least Kendall has the balls to turn up and swing the axe in person. I know plenty of horror stories involving entire teams being fired by text after years of service.

Kendall really did believe in Vaulter. But Lawrence screwed him on the acquisition and boardroom vote. Even when trying to save them from being gutted they were hostile, wasted his time with unorganized data, and voted to unionize. He gave up a piece of his dignity acquiring and defending them and it was satisfying to see him take his dignity back here.
@shortyrags2 жыл бұрын
Sorry but this is such a misread in my opinion. Kendall didn't want to gut Vaulter. There's the scene with him, Logan and Roman where he goes to bat for them, but Logan says no and tells Kendall what to do. This scene is showing Kendall at his lowest point of dignity. Being a little lapdog for his father. Which of course sets up his arc for season 2 and the eventual finale, where he gains the confidence to break from his father again.

@romilrh2 жыл бұрын
@@peterumathum4903 I mean no it's not what happened, but that IS what he said and that IS what it meant. Plus, it's a bit more complicated than just being blackmailed by his dad, as he explains to Shiv in 2x04

@@romilrh What did he explain to Shiv again? Was this when he broke down in front of her?
@romilrh2 жыл бұрын
@@billybobbobson he says "if dad didn't need me anymore, I'm not sure what I would be for." Essentially explains that the reason he's so relentless with doing his father's bidding and so passionately on his side is because it's his only purpose in life at this point, the only thing he's good at. If he throws that away, he has nothing. It's not just because his dad has dirt on him
