@@ClueSign cruel, yes, but not that surprising given her upbringing. ): Succession is such a tragedy. No matter how dickish they are, I feel really bad for the Roy children. They were raised in a veritable minefield, formative years ripe with emotional abuse from their domineering father and otherwise antipathetic mother. Love was seen as a weakness, vulnerability, something to exploit; likewise, relationships were transactional, just another facet of business where there’s a winner and loser. As a result, Shiv can’t bring herself to open up to Tom. That would mean going against the (sad, messed up) values instilled in her practically from birth. I believe that Shiv loves Tom (Sarah Snook and MattMac have said as much), but she has such poor interpersonal effectiveness skills that it comes across as a cruel kind of half-love. As sad as it is, it’s really entertaining to watch. And it also highlights the disparity between Tom’s relationship with Shiv, who pushes him away, and Greg, who validates and strokes Tom’s ego. No wonder he loses his cool every time Greg stands his ground. That’s his emotional support egg.

Best dynamic duo in the show. Both Tom and Greg are actually very alone and misfit in this big mess of Roy family circus where everyone is busy in backstabbing another. Nic is right they both need someone in their lives to rely on. Very well written characters. Matthew is an incredible actor & Nic is very sweet. I would love to see them leaving Waystar Royco & setting up their own company together.

What I love about most about Tom isn’t Tom. It’s Matthew. I JUST LOVE HIS VOICE IDK WHY!! Tom is among the best characters in Succession as well but man, I wouldn’t like him as much if he was played by someone else. Matthew nailed this role!

Ignoring regional accents, this does highlight to me that Macfadyen, unlike most of the main cast, doesn't sound/feel like his character naturally and has to do some 'real' acting to get there. Braun here comes across not too different from Greg. That's not a knock on the other actors; they just happened to be cast to their natural qualities.
