Have been following Indian hockey since Tokyo 2021. Watched the Pro League, World Cup, Commonwealth Games, Asian Games, even watched a lot of non India matches. I can definitely say one thing, this is probably the fittest Indian sports team ever, and no one comes close. A proof of their fitness is the amount of last 5 minute goals they score while chasing games, which requires just that extra effort. I preferred Graham Reid's balle balle freestyle hockey over Fulton's more European style, counter attack based hockey, and you can see the difference as our forwards were pretty much playing to win PCs for most of the tournament. But our defence was very strong this tournament considering its not a natural way of playing for most of these players. PS If I follow this team for 3 more years, I'm definitely losing all my hair. They just never make it easy for us fans 😢

This is shekhar’s first episode of “make a clutter”. Shekhar implies that Indian cricket has come of age because it is somehow more meritocracy now vs 40 yrs ago. Our talent pool has grown due to IPL and strong BCCI policies. Players have to be backed for their mental and technical abilities in the game. The so called inclusivity is a function of more people having access to these sports facilities.

Shekhar Gupta you mentioned most of the communities who have represented Indian hockey but no mention of the Christian community from (Goan & Mangalorean) Bombay and by this I do not mean Ango-Indian! Many of our ex goal India keepers were from Bombay's Christian community. Ex India coach Cedric D'Souza, Jude Menezes. Mark Patterson (Anglo Indian, I think), Adrian D'Souza etc And not forgetting players like Merwyn Fernandes, Joquim Carvalho, Marcellus Gomes, Viren Rasquinha, Edgar Mascaranhas, Gavin Ferrera, Edward Arahana etc. Apart from being such a numerically small community they have immense contribution to Indian hockey just like the Coorgis and Manipuris. Comparatively and rather unfortunately, very low numbers of Muslim and Kerala state players have made it to the Indian teams as compared to the population, natural talent and athleticism. For that very reason it was a waste of resources to have an SAI regional center in Gandhinagar, Gujarat as the state will rarely produce world class athletes

Another great episode however since no one is addressing the elephant in the room (sadly), sharing my two cents here: As the Olympics draw to close some worrying trends have emerged. 1. Overall performance has gone down. Usually countries better their performance 2.In most cases , our athletes don’t even qualify for medal rounds let alone winning 3. After all these years , we still don’t participate in a majority of events while countries far smaller than ours have a much larger participation 4.There’s a common belief that whatever success our athletes have achieved is in spite of , not because of the system Suggestions to remedy this problem 1. Increase sport budgets while ensuring majority goes to athletes , not bureaucrats 2. Ensure guaranteed high paying jobs for top performing athletes 3. Launch nationwide talent search to ensure participation in maximum events with guaranteed incentives for those who qualify 4. Link the bureaucrats , officials and coaches salaries to athletes performance . 5. Ensure maximum private sector participation through incentives like tax breaks

The question you should work upon SG is how many cities/district have astro turf in India.. If we want to dominate Hockey once again India needs 200 - 300 turfs across the country and then within 10 - 15 years we will be a dominant force... without that hockey will be once in 4 years CTC...

India has an unhealthy obsession with penalty corners..(i watched the final .. neither germany nor holland paid attention to circle penetration) we have good drag flickers... but we need good finishers .. like abhishek !!

1. RG should see this video, real success will come only and only if merit is deployed and not because of reservations 2. The example strengthens the case of DEI in corporate, Trainers can use this example 3. Gratitue to Ex Orissa CM Naveen Patnaik who has played critical role in reviving Hockey in India, surprised you failed to mention his name 4. Overall good episode, Excellent job
