I was about to say the same thing. I was multitasking and couldn't watch the entire video but still had the audio on and just listening to Summer talk about potting the plants and such was a totally ASMR effect for me.

I would say just give yourself some time to repot so it can be more of a relaxing experience. Even here, I didn't try to overdue it. I only did what I had time to do and didn't stress through it.

I really love your channel, I'm a silent admirer... but this video I need to comment on, as I'm a total succulent-freak and see so many things that could be improved here that I don't recommend for people to copy. 1) I love the upcycling idea of the tea cans, but there is no drainage so the humidity collects on the bottom. Rather than watering them just a little, they want to be soacked properly with good drainage possibilities after the soil is dry. You wouldn't be able to do that with those cans unless you drilled holes. I'd also plant sucs in a more shallow pot so the babies get space. 2) Mealy bugs and other pests: Touching a bug and then handling the other plants... OH MY!! You're giving me a heart attack. And re-using a pot that had pests in it without a proper wash... don't even get me started! Plants with pests should always be isolated. 3) The metal of the cans really heats up, esp in a south facing window, which cause the succulents to BURRRRRN! They'd be so much happier in clay. 4) Watering after re-planting a succulent is an abolute no-go. Their roots always become damaged from re-potting and you want to wait a few days for the roots to heal over before you water to avoid rot. 5) I don't know about the rust... but I can't imagine any plant would like to be kept in a rusty environment. All in all your succulents don't look happy. Imho, that's because they need a very different kind of care. Thumbs up for your succulent mix soil, that's exactly what they need!

Sandraishful an awl and a hammer could easily make some decent drainage holes. And maybe she could use the caps that came with the tins as trays for each container.

I use olive tins from Spain, France and Italy. Many of those have Art Nouveau motives from the period when they were first made. Bigger containers with olive oil can also be used. All of them are coated with plastic preventing them from rusting.

I was enjoying watching you repotting some of your succulents, nice that you keep it real, we all have issues from time to time with pests, and you do also, so calming to see how you deal with them. I have been trying my hand at growing succulents, I started off a bit rocky, but now I'm doing so much better. When you said Kalanchoe are your second favourite I was thinking to myself. "Yeah I think its mine too. Crassula is my number one". Then you said the same and I silently cheered lol. I think using these tins is a great way for them to be reused before recycled. 7 years is so much longer than I would think those tins would last for with the water but thats amazing. The kalanchoe pairing with the tooth aloes is great. I like how both plants are pointy. Darn mealies... Hopefully you can get some helpful bugs in to feast on them. :)

I love to use coffee tins as well, as they're a little more on the wide side. Feels so satisfying to upcycle something that would normally end up in the trash or recycling!!

what I love most about suucculents, is how eaaasy you can propagate them. evertime a leaf brakes of I just stick it into the soil somewhere and it starts growing like crazy xD

I like the tea caddy pots. Personally I like to bring the gravel almost to the top of the container as it gives better light and air circulation right to the base of the plant and stops pests hiding, you can also clear dead leaves more easily which also helps reduce the pests. Don't forget to compost the paper labels from the tins before you finally recycle them.

I just made one with a Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Spice tin. The tin is such a nice orange that it really works with the blues, greens,yellows, and reds. I felt very autumn. :)

I brought a Bryophyllum home accidentally in another potted plant from the garden I work in July and it grew outside until it got hit with three frosts. Brought it in late November and it is now going to flower and over 5 feet tall. I see why it is called mother of a thousand. Really loved seeing it bloom but also understand why it can be a greenhouse pest!

This is calming, yet confusing... just watched your other vid on buying plants n pots where you stressed needing drainage holes in pots. Also the benefits of terra-cotta pots for succulents etc. You even stress how to be careful w sitting nursery pots (with holes) into cover pots because the plants could absorb back up stagnant salty water.. as “sitting in a wet diaper”.

when you use an infected plant for compost, are you not afraid that the bugs will continue to flourish in the compost?

If some plants on a shelf are infested with mealy bugs, don't you think all of them may harbor eggs of larvae of those insects? I know the juvenile stage of scale insects are not visible to the naked eye, and I assume it would be the same for mealybugs. I'd spray them all with soap and oil, and maybe consider a systemic if those plants are important for you. If so many are vulnerable to mealy bugs, there may be an issue with the growing conditions on that ledge.

i know right, i throw the plants away, i am not buying extra stuff to kill bugs, yuck, when spider mites are in the plant and they need to be dumped, not worth risking my other plants

I got rid o spider mites by mixing water and dish soap! I thought about buying neem oil but tried the cheapo route and ended up working for me. Plant was pretty decimated at the time but its since recovered!

Wanda Owens I’d actually recommend not doing what she does. You’ll notice her plants are pretty unhappy looking. This is because there are no drainage holes, so se can only water very little or she risks root rot. This means all her plants are chronically dehydrated. They may be alive, but your plants will look way better and grow much more with proper drainage.

No drainage holes??? No wonder they’re so bedraggled. Probably dehydrated since you can’t give them a thorough watering to get them a proper drink. With succulents you should always be fully saturating the soil until excess water drains from the holes to keep them healthy and happy rather than scraggly and thirsty.

Composting is too good for mealybugs! Fire is better! Mealybug eggs are very resilient and can hatch out quite a long time down the line.

luckily I freeze my compost, so I'm hoping that neutralizes them....Then it goes through anaerobic digestion, which heats the compost up to super high heats.

@@summerrayneoakes There's not much info out there about freezing them, I'm sure it would kill the adults, but the eggs? I don't know. High enough heat will definitely kill all stages of life, but how do you monitor that in every part of your compost pile? If they were mine, I would first pour boiling water over anything suspected of having them. Another insidious bug is Brevipalpus/flat mite. I used a blow torch to incinerate one plant that had them!

I was thinking the same thing! But maybe because they’re succs their roots break easier. So I think you should not do that... and just let the roots grow, but in a bigger pot.

l enjoyed your recycle "tea container" succulent repotting. Dead plant compost of lost plants are new beginnings for new plants. My💡idea: The space between your window pane and plants l would place a tray of water for humidity also a spray bottle with equal parts water +70% or higher alcohol in a sprayed for your plants would help.... another 👍s up
