A legendary piece by Scriabin and a legendary interpretation by Horowitz. Most pianists play it a little more calm but I like his interpretation, have listened to it maybe 50 times.

@@Alix777. It is almost like one of Horowitz's Transcriptions, because he added so many notes and I like it. It is just so powerful and raw and extreme.

It's a remarkable piece of music. Horovitz adds a few notes and misses a few towards the end - but it's still an electric performance with great energy and drama. I love how Horovitz is joking and smiling before the piece but as soon as his fingers touch the keys he is deep in concentration. Scriabin was a fascinating, bizarre person and I adore his music. It was great to see your reaction to Horovitz - as you say, very humble for a great genius.

You should know that Horowitz is a legend, he was a friend of Rachmaninov who said that he was the best pianist, he even authorized him to modify his pieces :) He also met Scriabin!

A singularly talented Russian pianist playing Scriabin's mad Russian effusions. He was a mystic seeing himself as a seer and prophet.

A fun one! 🙂 There's a child-like chaos to it... Horowitz has an endearing smile, too.

Hi gidi!!!!!! If you enjoyed this way of "talking-playing", then I'd love to recommend you Glenn Gould's programs, where he performed a lot of music and shared his very unique thoughts. I especially liked : Beethoven sonata no 17 Bach Brandenburg concerto no 5 Prokofiev sonata no 7 Berg sonata no 1 Bach Art of the fugue Etc. Btw Gould is mostly known for his incredible interpretation of the Goldberg Variations(1981 version), which I recommend you the most. Thanks for videos !!

Glad you enjoyed vers la flamme!! Consider yourself inducted into the scriabin club with this piece XD Guess I was wrong, and you could start delving into scriabin's later sonatas if you'd like ((: (7th and 9th are great)

A charming guy, and when it comes to playing the piano, one of the Greatest Of All Time. Please consider listening to Horowitz play a Chopin nocturne if you have not already done so. RogerC 8/13/23

I actually played this!😅 It is indeed very difficult no doubt! Horowitz played kind of an own version of the piece with a lot of modifications to the base score. To be honest I don't really like this specific version but Horowitz was anyway a great pianist!

You're reacting to Horowitz :D yes, more reactions of the maestro! I highly recommend checking out and reacting to his documentary "Vladimir Horowitz - The Last Romantic" kzbin.info/www/bejne/on6xnKB6aZydbNE where you get to see alot more of his charming mischievous playful personality in addition to so much of his amazing playing. He plays a lot of Chopin is this doc, his Chopin is amazing because of Horowotz's great Romantic sensibility & magical touch...like Chopin himself. You also get to see alot of casual conversations with Horowitz being his playful charming self...priceless esp in this one kzbin.info/www/bejne/aH64int3nN5mnMk. This documentary is a gem.

Thank you, such an epic piece and one of my favourite pianists - not least because of his personality I really would enjoy reactions to other classical music content besides to the pieces itself as well like for example videos by the channel "inside the score" but anyway I love your reactions, keep going!

I know you've reacted to Rhapsody in Blue before, but I'd love to see a reaction to Hayato Sumino's interpretation of it if you haven't listened to it already. Particularly, the one with Yutaka Sado from 2022.

It's interesting, I have to say. I've known this piece for a while and played it as well since I really do love it, but I've never heard a single performance of it that I fully liked, unfortunately including this one. Playing Scriabin (and especially late Scriabin) is a difficult task.

Alexander Scriabin (1871-1915) was not only the brilliant composer, but also the real mystic. Appreciate this pieces in the Scriabin late cosmic style! kzbin.info/www/bejne/o6uYnYaCq9qIicU and kzbin.info/www/bejne/pHayhIOwbsx1b9U He is the person closest to me and beloved by me in the whole world of art, a composer who immerses with his magical music into the worlds of "the highest refinement and the highest grandeur." Having deeply passed through all his work, I learned to thoroughly reproduce the elements of the Scriabin style. In particular, the style of the works of his late creative period, sounding extraordinary, otherworldly, mystical... Using specific means, first of all harmony (as well as texture and tempo), I can "scriabe" any piece, melody or motive accordingly, without changing at all or almost without changing the notes of the melodic line of the original. And despite the fact that in this case I didn't even change a single note of the melody of the original holiday song "Happy birthday to you" kzbin.info/www/bejne/pHayhIOwbsx1b9U , in the end it sounds completely different: now it's not a "home holiday", but the image of a nervous-impetuous strong-willed flame characteristic of Scriabin! Also I "enchanted" the famous Christmas song "Jingle bells" kzbin.info/www/bejne/o6uYnYaCq9qIicU into a figurative sphere characteristic of Scriabin: now it is the most refined cosmic longing, gradually ecstatically excited, and then melting away...

Typically people hold off on recommending Scriabin's later piano sonatas (6 through 10) until they have reason to believe that the person they're making recommendations to is "ready." Given that you appreciated this performance, you probably are.

NOT "Verse la flamme," but "Vers la flame," which means "towards the flame." "Vers" is French for "towards," and the final "s" in "vers" is not pronounced, it is silent. Love Scriabin, specially his late works, such as the later sonatas, like the sonatas "Black Mass," and "White Mass," and other late sonatas. They are epic! (For instance, here is Vladimir Ashkenazy playing Scriabin's Sonata #6: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jZfbY4WKhtKJbcU). And yes, Horowitz, one of the greatest! Such a musical personality!

Yes. Sonatas Nos. 6, 7, 9 are my favorites. I've really tried to like "Vers la flamme," and I do enjoy it when I hear it, but it's not a piece I seek out. I always go back to the sonatas. And when I'm feeling like something really "dramatic," I'll go to Sonata No. 3. I've listened to Scriabin's late sonatas so much that I recognize what I'm listening to and what I'm listening FOR. They really are marvelous.

Since you enjoyed Horowitz’s personality I would suggest you watch this short documentary on him. It is a mix of him playing excellent classical music on his own piano, and him chatting with his friends. He even talks about his experiences with his two friends, Scriabin and Rachmaninoff, from his youth. kzbin.info/www/bejne/on6xnKB6aZydbNE

One of the greatest modern performers of Scriabin is Alexey Chernov. Recently, he played "the whole piano Scriabin" during 24 hours (all the 10 Sonatas and all other pieces). You can listen to his playing at his KZbin channel - A. Scriabin. Sonata No. 5 op.53 (Alexey Chernov, piano) - Alexey Chernov plays Scriabin Sonatas No. 8, No. 9, No. 10 on the Scriabin's Bechstein Grand piano (Scriabin museum in Moscow, 2008) - A. Scriabin. 4 preludes op.22 (Alexey Chernov, piano) etc.
