Goodness, thic is the most useful channel with info on lithops I've found on KZbin! I was desperate to find good information on watering, as I am a beginner lithop owner (by a complete accident too) and you are the only person who explains it all is a simple way, using plants you own as examples:) Thank you so much!

Is it proper to water a lithops in the winter that is wrinkly and showing signs of needing water?

Good video. Thank you for the content! I have a couple of lithops that are still absorbing their outer leaves but the new leaves are very shriveled and looking like pizza. I'm not sure whether I should water or not. I've been holding off for months but they seem to have stalled. As far as I can tell, they're actually healthy but just no longer absorbing their leaves. Any thoughts on how to proceed?

@@SucsForYou Thanks for the quick response! I have them under white leds for 12 hours a day. I measured the ppfd at about 450 with a low end ppfd app on my phone which gives me a dli at about 20 so it should be in that ballpark. I bump up to 14 hours a day in the spring, summer, and fall. The temps stay at about 70F in the winter and 80F in the summer. I'm also located in NC, which is very humid (44-50 inches rainfall per year). I'm thinking about giving them some water since they look so dessicated. Do you think that would be a good idea or should I continue with the tough love?
@SucsForYou
@SucsForYou 11 ай бұрын
@@DavinStewart It sounds like decent light so they should be photosynthesizing and absorbing the old leaves. If you think the process has stalled, water them a bit. If the new growth doesn't plump up and stay plump... they're probably going to struggle to complete the cycle.

I have two lithops that are in the same pot. They used to do their stages together but this year one of them stalled and is about 6 weeks or so behind the other. The faster one now needs water. The slower one still hasn’t absorbed water from its old leaves. Should I separate them and water the faster one? I’d rather leave them together if possible.

Best practice is to separate them, especially if they're different species or growing at different paces.

Not bonsai but similar - a mix I made :) Bonsai should be fine as long as the pot has good drainage holes and preferably is a porous, unglazed clay. (Pot material is more important in humid climates)

@SucsForYou
@SucsForYou 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for subscribing!! Lithops should be in a very fast draining soil and without a lot of organic material, there won't be much wicking action via bottom watering. But it's fine if you want to and are sure the soil will dry out in a timely manner 🙏

I am late to the party but have a question. My lithops are at soil level, kinda how I thought they are in wild. Will that hold them back at splitting time? They are about the size of half dollar. My baby ones are kinda just lithoping
@SucsForYou
@SucsForYou 2 жыл бұрын
They should be fine but what I like to do personally (because it's so humid here) is to make sure the top half of the plant (at least) is surrounded by drainage materials. They help draw away moisture and will help old leaves dry more thoroughly.

Hi there! Sorry for the random comment, I just wanna make sure my lithops is okay. Mine has gotten soft over the last few days. It also looks wrinkly, however it’s open down the center (not shut tight like the soft one you had). Considering it’s late winter and almost spring here, I’m under the impression that it’s getting ready to split. Is what I described normal for lithops that are getting ready to split?I’m new to these guys so I wanna make sure this is normal and it’s not sick or anything

I bought a Lithops at a store that was in very organic soil but blooming. It's a twin that's patterned very much like your twin. I've recently moved it to very gritty soil, about 5 days ago and removed 99% of the organic soil. The blooms are still sticking up which I thought would fall out and it would split but it looks soooo dry. 😞 It's all wrinkled on the sides and the top is sinking. I want to water it so bad but I'm afraid of killing it. Any advice?

Mine are wrinkling and supposedly will grow new leaves at some point, so I'm not watering. Apparently in the latitudes I live, this can happen up to late June, which is kind crazy because they are put to dormancy in beginning of October. So they will only get three or four months of little watering :O

I’ve lost three mother plants (two were having twins 😢) because the older leaves seemed to tear while splitting and the babies were just mush underneath. I tried but there was no saving them. I have one opening right now with twins and I believe a dead flower? Lol. How can I avoid that? 😭 I moved this one inside under my grow light as we’ve had so much rain the past few days (I live in the Houston area!) and although they were on a sill, in an area where my plants are still bone dry after a week of rain, I wonder if rain could’ve been the issue before? I’d love to stop killing these weird babies lol
