Wednesday June 19 2024 at 6.47 and 7.01am. The first two passenger trains of the day, the 5.53 Nottingham to Crewe (7.58) and the 6.08 Crewe to Newark Castle (8.08) almost passed on the crossing. As there was no point getting there earlier, I drove to get there for those trains but, unusually, a light locomotive, 82659, heading for Carlisle, past earlier. It was "planned for 33 mph max" apparently so the barriers were lowered far too early, hence the huge queue, particularly for that time of the morning. Network Rail may not give its signalmen that kind of helpful information. My only previous visit here was in 2013: • Sudbury Level Crossing At least the trains have doubled in size since then. This isn't a popular line for regular level crossing filmers. Not exciting enough. The crossing had gates until 1990.
