I was in the shower when that happened on the live this morning, so could hear all the commotion, but couldn't see what was going on! Cheers for uploading the clip, now I know what I missed. 😁

I think it’s so funny to read some of the well-intentioned comments here. As a pilot of both NB and WB jets, I have to be a bit of a killjoy with this one. It’s well known that spoiler deployment at landing causes a nose-up moment. We become used to countering it almost instinctively because as soon as the mains touch down, we relax aft column pressure. This is usually enough to counter the pitch up we all just marveled at in the video. I think what we just watched was the PF holding back pressure a little too long, then having to push forward assertively to bring everything back into an eye-pleasing manner. It does look pretty dramatic though haha.

Heathrow is a windy place at the best of times. I came back from Thailand on sunday on EVA, just before touch down we got side swiped by a big gust of wind.

That's what can happen if you decide to use aerobraking in a gusty headwind. American pilots seem to use aerobraking more than others?

From the Boeing 767 Flight Crew Training Manual: Landing Technique. “….Fly the nose wheels smoothly onto the runway without delay. Control column movement forward of neutral should not be required. Do not attempt to hold the nose wheels off the runway. Holding the nose up after touchdown for aerodynamic braking is not an effective braking technique and may result in high nose gear sink rates upon brake application”

I’m coming to Myrtle Ave viewing area tomorrow. Appreciate the weather is not looking so good. How do I know which way landing and take offs will be please? Thank you
@BigJetTV3 ай бұрын
It’s a tricky one to say for sure because it’s forecast easterly winds in the morning which would mean 09 operations. If that’s the case departures will go out over Myrtle Avenue. If they switch to 27 ops before 3pm then like today it will be arrivals over Myrtle Avenue, before switching to departures at 3pm. Your best bet is to monitor operations on a radar app to see what they are doing. If it works out that way it will be worth enduring the awful weather because you get best of both! Hope that helps?
