Thank you for doing this. I just started watching your videos. I have to admit, I decided to watch #56 first thinking you could teach me everything I needed to learn and I would be good to go. Well, that was my first mistake! I did my 1st easy level puzzle and failed miserably. I was frustrated and almost threw in the towel, but I just paid good money for my sudoku book. So, I decided to give it another go and watch your videos in order this time. After video #3, I tried again. In my zeal to put in a “big” number, I realized I was still making mistakes. The biggest lesson I learned was “check your work.” Here are the rest of the lessons that I have learned so far. Top middle bottom. Left right center. Small number possibilities. Exclusion rules. Underline matching pairs. Ramifications of new numbers. Cross check. Sets of 3’s. Row fill. Column fill. Block fill. The most important by far is: Check as you go. Thanks again. I look forward to watching the rest of your videos.

"The biggest lesson I learned was “check your work.” I stumbled upon 'Cracking the Cryptic' about 2 months ago and have watched most of their daily uploads since. I observed their [mostly] 'variant sudokus' for about a couple of weeks before attempting to solve any puzzles. Nearly all have a 'normal sudoku rules apply' tag, so I was able to solve hard classic sudoku puzzles fairly quickly, whilst learning about all the aforementioned variants (Killer, Thermo, Arrow, Chess, Reflection, X/V, Palindrome, Jigsaw, Sandwich, with all their various quirks), which all totally flex your math/s skills. But it took me a few more weeks to start properly 'checking my work'. I started to save *lots* of time through not having to backtrack and/or restart puzzles due to ill logic and my confidence grew. 100%.... Check your work is No. 1. One thing the 'CTC' channel lacks though is a clear and structured approach to learning sudoku like this channel hosts. *Thanks Sudoku Guy!* Just stumbled upon you early today. Being able to label some of these techniques I've been using will help structure my solving better and to fill in some knowledge gaps helps a ton and is much appreciated. Cheers!

When you do these types of videos I try to follow along but sometimes I'll notice something before you've seen it or gotten around too it so I will just go ahead and do it and wait to see if I was right. Luckily most of the time you eventually end up writing in whatever number I wrote in!

Jessica...thanks for your comment. You are right. it is easy to miss a ramification and often there are several ways to go. It dpends on what you know, what you spot and when. If I have 5 students do a puzzle they make take 5 different routes but in the end they finish with the right. answer. You will also notice that I was teaching a procedure. Thanks for All your Videos. Are there any Sudoku puzzle Rules for a (Party Game) competition using a 2-man team against another 2-man team using the same board game to complete the puzzle? Each player taking alternate terms to work the board. Scoring, time limits, and etc. should be in the Rules. I think this will be a Great Party Team competition Game. Lets get this started.

Yes, you may use this idea. I was thinking that you could have 2 person teams play a trial games in order to further develop the rules & get the flow of the game. Let me know.

What is your definition each of '''small number'' and ''big number''?
@SudokuGuy
@SudokuGuy 5 жыл бұрын
Small number means that number is possible to be the correct number but not for sure. Large number means it is the correct solved number I suggest you go to lesson 1 You will find it here kzbin.info/door/d8JaOdfEWcJOtwG6YayW0w

Can you make a video with a very hard sudoku?
@SudokuGuy
@SudokuGuy 9 жыл бұрын
horeanga bogdan YES I can, but it will be covered in a later tutorial. In the meantime purchase a book by Will Shortz, which has difficult puzzles. His books are good. If you look at the last few lessons of my course you will find difficult puzzles. The difficulty of a puzzle depends on 2 factors. Firstly the number of given numbers and their location, and secondly the algorhythm that was used to design the puzzle. Some algorhythms make it very difficult yet there may be a high number of initial numbers. Generally speaking, (but not always is it the case) that the more the initial numbers the easier the puzzle. It is possible to solve a very difficult puzzle yet it has less than 25 initial numbers. It depends on your knowledge of techniques and the algorhythm used. Sometimes a moderate puzzle, which has a large number of initial numbers can be difficult. Again it depends on the techniques you know and the algorhythm used.

3:19 No, you did missed one ramification... There is a 1 in row 7 col 3, and 1 in row 4 col 9. They intersect leaving the only possibilities for 1 in the region as row 9 cols 7 and 8. Following the exclusion rule, it wipes out the small 1 you marked in row 9 col 5, which makes the 1 of row 8 col 5 into a big 1!
