I call this puzzle tricky, because there are quite a few tricky bits, which I show to help you solve it.
See how a big number can result from putting in little numbers. This technique is very important in helping you solve harder puzzles.
I must apologize, I must have been tired, but see how many times I use the incorrect terminology. Slipups !

Thank you for your comment. Some players say I repeat too much but sorry, I am a teacher by profession and beginners and seniors need repetition so that important procedures and techniques are learnt.

Ramifications is a great tool. It’s not necessarily the number we just filled in. It can open up possibilities for other numbers as well. Number 1 was waiting to be filled up on the left bottom corner box for a very long time

If there are only 3 empty cells in a row or column or within a block and I have 3 numbers only, namely 1, 3, 4 to occupy the above empty places in the order 134, 34 and 34, then will it be correct to assume that 34 and 34 will be a matching pair and allow to put a big 1 in the first cell where there was 134? Sudoku Guy, Kindly help to remove my confusion in this case.
@SudokuGuy
@SudokuGuy 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Birchand, Not necessarily. I can't tell exactly not seeing the whole puzzle. You could have a 13/13 or1/4 1/4 as well as a 3/4 3/4 matching pair. It depends on what other number come up after doing more solving. I'm enjoying the tutorials - but the puzzles you present have probably twice as many numbers filled in than the ones I'm working on. In which tutorial do you cover how to solve puzzles with only 25 numbers filled in at the start?
@SudokuGuy

If you go to my channel page kzbin.info and scroll down you will see a playlist of all the puzzles showing how to eliminate small numbers. If you are at Tutorial #7 I can understand your concern. You will need to learn lots more by watching more advanced tutorials It is hard to jump ahead without learning the earlier step, and techniques.. Hang in there, in time it start to become much easier.

Much as I like your encouraging and reassuring style, I think your methodology is needlessly restrictive and inefficient, even for beginners. Writing in candidates is a practice that should be reserved as a last resort, appropriate for particularly difficult grids only. For such an easy grid there is no need to write anything other than the correct numbers. Also, counting through from 1 to 9 is slow and inefficient, as are moving from top to bottom or left to right and limiting oneself to either the horizontal or the vertical direction. In this particular case you could have started off with the eights, threes and several sevens, all of which spring out at a glance right from the start. They are effectively given to us as freebies. I think even beginners should be encouraged to look over the whole grid for obvious fill-ins right from the start. These criticisms aside, I am pleased that you have taken the time to help people with a puzzle that can seem so daunting to many, particularly because it appears, at first glance, to be mathematical, although, of course, the digits might be replaced by any set of distinct symbols.

Thank you for your comment. And thank you for your last paragraph. Re the comments re beginners. I am a teacher and as such understand that beginners need to have a procedure. You are obviously experienced. The real beginners need a system. I'v been teaching sudoku to young and old and have found my system effective for beginners. Now about not putting in small numbers. The experienced player need not put them in to save time... you are right. If you look at my tutorials further on you will note that I talk about this. Beginners need to have practice especially for the advanced levels when you have no choice but to put in all possible numbers. If you look at my tutorials from #25 -36 you will see how having small numbers are helpful. If the advanced player can solve a very very difficult puzzle without small numbers they are to be congratulated.

@@SudokuGuy Hello Sudoku Guy, I am a beginner 60 years old and a German woman. your way is the only one for me to find any interest in sudoku at all, i always thought i'm to stupid because i had no idea at all. i think you're doing a really good job and you are right,: beginners need some help and if it is only with the small numbers. for me you are the best teacher at all and I'm glad that you do it this way😀 thank you very much. I Wish you all the best in your life. Best regards Gudrun from Paderborn
