It's not everyday that you see Sue Bird get mad.
Here's her explanation :
"My bad re: Angry Sue. Looking back on it, maybe I didn’t need to get so mad at the refs there like I did. I swear, though - wearing the mask?? It felt like someone was trying to take my face off. But then I looked at the video, post-game, and it was honestly pretty clean. Anyway, you guys, sorry for Angry Sue. Maybe I overreacted"

I can see how this happened. It's not the ball that hits her mask, it's the other player's hand or wrist. The Mercury player seems to be going for the ball, but the ball isn't that close to Sue's mask. I get why Sue got angry, but it's a good non-call for hostile. Knocking over the other Mercury player also seems incidental. Given the camera doesn't show her feet at 1:17, it's hard to tell if she's 'taking a charge' or honestly tangled up. Probably the later, but hard to prove hostility from that view. All in all, though, heckuva game.

She should've gotten the tech. If Diana showed that much emotion, she would've been ejected. Plain and simple. In game 1, Diana was going to talk to her teammate at the half, and bc of Griner's reaction she got a T. Sue blatantly got fired up, pushed January to the floor, ripped her mask off and got in the referee's faces, it should've been a T. But it was game 5 in Seattle, the refs were too chicken shit to pull the trigger. But that moment absolutely shifted the rest of the game in Seattle's favor.

Oh I totally agree that if that were Dee...she absolutely would have been tossed BUT because it was IN Seattle...winner take all...enough said. I believe it did change the momentum of the game too. The Merc completely fell apart after that. Still an amazing series...

@@brightdaysaheadofUs yes a T on sue. But still. Sure accident to grab or touch a person’s face but . That’s a foul. Read Diana’s lips. Clearly saying grabbing someone’s face is not a foul. Maybe how she plays in warmups or in a gym but WNBA and nba, hate to be a bearer of bad news to Diana- it’s a foul. Appropriate call would be a double tech and foul on the player grabbing for the face. Refs missed it.

i love sue but january didn’t touch her mask, bonners arm did while her hand were on the ball. and then when they got up january’s leg was tangle in sues arm but sue saw her falling and continued to get up and let her fall so🤷🏽‍♀️
