Experimenting with Ikea Crushed Glass in Resin

This video started out as an experiment using crushed glass from Ikea, in the resin. If you are familiar with my previous videos, you will know that I normally like to use acrylic gems (decoration fillers) in the shape of diamonds as a texture in my resin pieces. So for this video, I thought I would try out an alternative. I was also using 'Stormy Seas' Pigment Paste from Colour Obsession for the first time and I found by adding white after the initial pour that I got an interesting effect with the dark blue pigment.
Materials used:
• Masonite Board 40 x 45cm: amzn.to/2WH1mBE
• Resin: Standard UV Resin from U-Resin: bit.ly/StandardUVResin
• Crushed Glass from Ikea - alternative product: amzn.to/2WCPS1R
• Colour Obsession Paste - Stormy Seas
• Colour Obsession Paste - Snow White
• Colour Obsession Metallic Pigment - Teal
• Heat Gun (to zap bubbles)
• D-Ring or Stand for hanging or display: amzn.to/2COQTwd

That looks like an areal photo of ocean waves breaking on rocks. I love how some of the glass sunk down. That is what gave it the effect of the waves washing over the rocks. You went ahead and made that. Beautiful is an understatement.

Quick and simple?? Hmmm🤔😉 I have found some chip beads in my jewellery stash that I've had for ages. See if they work before ordering crushed glass. I am so thankful I have found your channel. Are you based in the UK if so I am a fella artist. I usually used Oils but have developed a slight addiction to Resin art. I absolutely love this video they way you have created it as well as the amazing work of art you created. On the next day off I am going to head into Ikea to check these out glass options. I am not a lover of Geodes myself but I love how you use the glass for texture and depth in you art. You have inspired me. Cannot wait to binge on all your videos. Beautiful colours ❤️❤️❤️

You have a way with this material. I wish I knew how you keep it all on the board without running off the edges, mine just works its way off the pallet and onto the table :) (perhaps it's too warm where I live)
@SueFindlay
@SueFindlay 5 жыл бұрын
I am going to ask the obvious, is your board level? What brand of resin are you using? Have you tried taping the edge to create a dam? If not, give that a go, remove the tape after 30 mins (if a warm day) - 1 hour (if a cool day).
@azmark6894
@azmark6894 5 жыл бұрын
Sue Findlay thank you for the reply! My surfaces are always level, but I haven’t succeeded with taping the edges - seems my resin always manages to seep underneath and my project winds up draining onto the table LOL! Various re$ins (including Alumilight). My temps are always in the 90s F so things are very runny, that may be the issue. Either that or I’m simply lacking your magic touch :-)

Hi Sue. What do you spray on the picture before you mix the colors in the picture with your Fingers? Thanks
@SueFindlay
@SueFindlay 4 жыл бұрын
I had to go and watch it again because I couldn't remember, lol. I put some mineral turpentine in a spray bottle to help break the resin up a bit. This helps to create cells and it doesn’t leave dimples in your resin. This is due to it evaporating before your resin cures. 💕
