"Should've kept every grocery store receipt, because every scrap of you would be taken from me" punches me in the gut every time. I still have my mom's last grocery list on my bedside table, 11 years after she died. This song is beautiful but the opening chords have me in tears every time.

Fun fact: both "epiphany" (about her grandfather) and "Marjorie" (about her grandmother) are tracks 13 on their albums.

it makes me cry like a baby every time i listen to it. I lost my mother when I was 16 (i'm 22 now) and when she sings “i should've asked you questions i should've asked you how to be” it's literally me regretting all the moments that i didn't appreciate her enough and at the same time feeling like i lost something i never had, the moments we never had, the conversations, the laughs.

It definitely speaks to the values Taylor holds of her family and keeping them close, even when they’re no longer together in this life, they’re still together in love & memory. ❤

This song always makes me cry. Seeing the home movies is seeing someone's history being passed on and being remembered. Very touching. And what a beautiful way to pay tribute to someone who was a very important figure in your life. Long live. RIP Marjorie Finlay 🙏

Absolutely LOVE the picture where she's sitting at the piano as a toddler, it just shows she was introduced and fascinated by the music forever. She literally born to be an artist and an iconic one
@elisamaer99142 жыл бұрын
I agree with you that this is a beautiful tribute to her Grandma. Aaron Dessner did a wonderful job incorporating Marjorie's recording in 2 segments. She influenced Taylor in music, letting her play the piano as a baby and thereafter. The grandpa in Epiphany is her Dad's father, Marjorie is her Mom's mother.

The first time I heard this song I cried, because it was so clear that this was personal to Taylor, and that it was about someone she had lost and loved so much. After hearing it, I looked up Marjorie, and only then learned about her grandmother.

Honestly when we get to "I should have asked you questions..." I tear up and have to stop myself crying every single time!!!!! It's so true though - if you lose your grandparents young, when you're still so egocentric that you don't even realise some day you're going to wish you had the opportunity to sit down and talk more with them. Or even just listen to them talk about their own life.

It's so poignant cause marjorie left her "backlogged dreams" to taylor. marjorie was a star, but it seems like she wanted to become very successful and popular but didnt. Now Taylor acheived her grandma's dreams and her grandma is not dead because she is alive through Taylor's extraordinary career

epiphany was inspired by her paternal grandpa. she mentioned in her interview in folklore lpss movie that it was Scott Swift's dad who went to war (not sure if it was d-day) and had experiences so harrowing he didn't like to talk about it even with his sons (taylor's dad and uncles) years later.

This song is painfully relatable to me. I lost my grandmother at a young age before I knew to ask all the things I’d want to know. Her name also happened to be Marjorie 💜💜

yes, those grandmotherly wisdom quotes struck me as well. The grandpa song was "epiphany' and related his military service with the war against Covid fought by health workers.

i lost my grandmother 10 years ago as of next year, i barely knew anything about her, not even her name, all i knew was how kind she was to me. i really do wish i asked questions, but i was only 8 when we lost her. this song hits me so hard that i cant listen to it without thinking about her and crying. i’ve got to skip it everytime when listening to evermore

marjorie is a song on taylor’s grandmother and i’m pretty sure it’s about how taylor wouldn’t like going to her grandparents house so she would get upset as a kid going there and that’s why i’m pretty sure the lyrics “i complained the whole way there the car ride back and up the stairs” means how she complained in the car why she has to go to her grandparents house and when got back home still grumpy she went there. This song still shreds me in to tears and i sobbed so hard in the eras tour hopefully this maybe cleared what marjorie is about (Edit: Taylor’s grandmother did not die when evermore came out so taylor made a song about it her grandmother died in 2003 so yeah) and also taylor was 14 when her grandmother died… and i was 8 when mine did so yeah :D

Ugh Carrie underwood blown away....ufff da!!!! Temporary home holds my heart, the end of the video where grandpa waits for her to say goodbye makes me think of the last time I saw our grandma,I know she didn't want to leave without saying goodbye. She wasn't speaking anymore but man did we connect and feel each other's love.
