Suffolk Punch Draft Horse Gathering 2022

We visit the 2022 North American Suffolk Horse Association Annual Gathering. This year it was held at the Ashtabula Fairgrounds in Jefferson, Ohio. The association works to promote and propagate this rare breed.

The remarks from the gentleman from Ontario points out the mistake Percheron breeders have made in selecting for hitch style horses over a farm sized horse. I've worked with Clydes, Belgians, and Percherons and have settled on Percherons, specifically farm type Percherons. There is quite a difference when you stand a team of farm horses beside a team of hitch horses. I would not advise anyone looking to actually use horses on the farm or in the bush on a daily basis invest in hitch type horses. Mine stand 16.2-17 hands and I have no difficulty harnessing them every day, and their temperament is extremely placid and friendly which is important for my horse drawn ride business.
