I work the beet harvest every year.i am here this year at Hamilton yard right now.the work is very easy(i am 46 years old) you stay busy so the 12 shift goes by fast.leave your watch in the car or it be a long shift looking at it every 5 mins.the one thing i would say i dont like is the rain.you will work in the rain as long as the farmers can get in the fields.the mud sucks also it is like Alabama gumbo clay almost impossible to get off your shoes lol other than that it's easy good paying job.my first year i was a driver but moved to the ground crew cause make more money.drivers get $22 hour straight pay no time half no double time.i make bout $800 more on the ground

As I'm doing the Beet Harvest this year and I was wondering if it was cold the Drayton RV park or is it called Schumacher park or is it another location and about how far away are you from the actual work site? Get back to me when you get this it be greatly appreciate it thank you very much for the wonderful video look forward to hearing from you best regards less stuff more freedom

I was at the newest one in Drayton. It did not yet have a name when I got there because it was still somewhat under construction. The plant was not even a half mile away. There are two parks that I know about in Drayton, both are close to the plant. Carry lots of mosquito repellent. Say hello to Lily one of the forewomen for me. Enjoy it, it will give you something to talk about later in life.

ASHLEYS@LARGE thank you for getting back to me so quickly as I'm fairly new to the responding on KZbin back and forth I'm so used to just talking on the phone or emailing but I see you got my reply very quickly and I appreciate the quick message back. I definitely will say hi to that person for you. I watched your video and it was very helpful as I was watching the video I was also on a my phone doing the GPS to follow along exactly where you were. I talked to Al over the past few months and I got word that I'm going to be at the Drayton RV Park this year so I'm not sure if that was the one that you stayed at or not as his directions were exit 187 turn right go to a four-way stop and it's about quarter mile and a left or something like that very vague directions that's why I was wondering with your experience if this was the same park that I'll be staying at or not the one that you stayed at

Driving would be a better. I work for Christensons farms and Helm's during the season. I would say bring a tv and dvds player because there isn't much to do other then work and relax. Awesome video they do have a cleaning station for cleaning fish. It's right by the spot where you turned around downtown.

They have added heat to the Shower facility. Most have left the sugar beet harvest. We leave Sunday headed back to Missouri to pick up family and head to Texas.

I would Love to be healthy enough to go back to work in North Dakota. Either with the sugar beets or the oil fields. It is a place where I consider HOME. Even though I am trapped in Tennessee I will find a way to get back home to My beautiful North Dakota!

Just in answer to a statement I made in a video " I would go back." Have met several people from the harvest this past year. One being a foreman who teaches the bobcats. Good folks who go back year after year. Good money for a couple and an adventure and cash for the single guy or girl.

Do you think the pay was worth it? Is camping free or you pay? Thanks for letting all of us what you think about the job. Thank you for sharing.

+Kristen Hi Kristen, The pay is good. If you get to work both weekends you make good money. We were cut back except for four hours on Sat. at time and a half due to hot weather. This cut about 500 out of expected income. Traveling 1800 miles round trip makes the loss significant. But, the experience for me was good. You get full hook ups with the job. Thanks for watching.

+Silver Fox Wow!!! I understand that lost for the weekend, but you talked about a bonus... will that put you above your needed amount?
@ASHLEYSLARGE9 жыл бұрын
+Kristen Robinson Worked an additional 4 days so it worked out. Will get a 10% bonus instead of the usual 5%. All in all it was well worth it.

Thanks a lot for this video!! I read Jessica Bruder's book "Nomadland" and will make a review about it on my Booktube channel and will link to this. The book starts in Drayton and returns there.

I think I'll stick to driving truck
@ASHLEYSLARGE8 жыл бұрын
yea...longer hours, but better pay. I would like to drive a truck this time around. btw.. you don't have to have a cdl to drive trucks for the sugar beet harvest. They are allowed to be driven because of them being farm vehicles within a certain number of miles from the farm.
