Malta: 1960s, known for the mass migration of young people to Australia. Malta was in a recession before and mostly after Independence from Great Britain in 1964. Since Australia was still a young country building up its workforce, many young Maltese people decided to take up the opportunities far away from home and try their luck in Australia.

What amazing young men. Australia should be proud of how you all changed it's industries through your blood, sweat and tears and the heartbreak of your loved ones left behind. For the departed, may you Rest In Peace and for those with us, may the Lord bless you all. Very proud nation back then. ❤‍🩹🇲🇹🇲🇹

Charlie Bigeni. Jien emigrant Malti li naghajc l-Awstralja, u nahdem bla razan. Ma tistax titfa lil kulhadd f’keffa wahda ghax mhu vera xejn li kull emigrant jigi l-Awstralja biex joqod qieghed. Nfatti kull emigrant li naf hawn, kollha gew hawn ghax xoghol, u gieli xoghol li hadd ma rrid jaghmel, u xoghol li ikun “below their qualifications” ghax emigranti li jigu l-Awstralja ikunu kwalifikati ghax nkellha issaffar mhux iggib ir-residenza.

Both my Dad and my Uncle worked in Northern Queensland on the Sugar Cane Farms. My Uncle Sister owned one in Northern Queensland were my dad and Uncle worked. I think early 1950's and Sixties.

Please explain. I do agree it was hard work and a very dangerous one, but slavery is something different. But I am open for your explanation!
