Hi! How do you keep your black icing from bleeding? I use Americolor. I've tried various tactics. My most recent "try" was making the black icing 2-3 days prior to using it. It did seem to help. Your black icing looks great! I do like seeing you in your tutorials. But if it takes alot more time for you to set up your video this way, I would still really benefit from your tutorials where it just shows you icing your cookies. I do appreciate the time you take to explain what you're doing and what works best!

Hello Lesa! I'm so sorry that I am just now responding to comments. The holidays ended up consuming me and I just never sat down to pull up my comments. I'm so sorry! So.... color bleed. Man, it's the worst, isn't it?! I rarely deal with it though - and I think it's due to a few reasons. (1) I never ever start my black from black. I always mix old colors together to get a dark color on it's own (like a gross brown color) and then slowly add black to it. I think that is helpful because I am not oversaturating my icing with black food gel color. (2) because I am using old icing, you are right. My color does sit in the freezer for several days before I use it. I also think that helps! I usually already have a black ready for me in the freezer but if I do have to make a new batch, I try to make it in advance so it can sit in the freezer and get darker over time (3) I do not live in a super humid place. Humidity can really mess with royal icing and on days that we DO have a lot of humidity, I find that I am more prone to have issues like craters and color bleeding (4) are you using cream of tartar in your recipe? The one time I purposely tried to NOT use it, I had major color bleeding issues!
