I definitely want a season 2 this show is the type of original work we need more of! Collin Farrell was great (everyone was great really!!) loved the gentle masculinity of his character. Loved the noir feel! Honestly, 10s accross the board from me! Chef's kiss! The little girl to me was a reminder to Sugar that humanity is not just violence and that being more human doesn't have to be bad.

I think it is a very good show. The writing and setting were super captivating. A cool bit of writing that I think was profound was the little girl at the beach. “I wouldn’t go any further, there’s sharks in there.” Speaks to how he sees the humans. Just being existing in an ecosystem where there is great terror. Sugar just wants people to be safe and happy. So I’d imagine that little conversation made him think “I have to stay and take care of the sharks so people can swim in the water”. I don’t think I’m reading to far into that because why else put that interaction in there. But yeah very good show hopefully we get a season 2

❤Who wrote this story, who financed the film - the series is very cool. The best representatives of Humanity have had a faint hope of “help/salvation from Evil” for many years. This idea was implemented by the screenwriter! That the best, perfect aliens will fly in from afar and change us. They will reformat the DNA of all the cruel ones. And the Planet will become better. But notorious monsters know. No one will help or save. This is what the film is about. To be continued. After all, Sugar now has a new mission🌍. Destroy absolute Evil. Henry. And a senator father who allowed his son to become a monster.

A good and rare Noir. But the twist (aliens) was weak, because it never affected the plot & the detective-works. Also the discovery wasn't based on clues from the beginning.

Before we found out Sugar was an alien, I kept thinking about Mulder from X-Files when Sugar referenced his lost sister. But I still had no clue that he was going to be an actual alien.

A couple other comments. First, in the intro shot his eyes don't turn blue in the first few episodes. It is only after the big reveal that his eyes start turning blue in the intro. Second, when Sugar has his shoes off and the waves are coming up to his feet and the little girl wars him about the ocean, it is a larger metaphor. Sugar has just dipped his toes into something that is much, much bigger and more dangerous than he understands. If he doesn't turn back now he could be lost to it.

Here is my take, the show has morphed into a modern Scifi version of "The Fugitive ",Sugar will searching for Henry while the powers that be are hunting him down,very much like Richard Kimball looking for the one armed man while Lt Gerrard pursued him,actually a very clever way to reboot a plot concept

I stand by my previous comment. John Sugar is actually John Jones the Martian Manhunter from the DC comics. I actually can't believe that I didn't see it sooner. This is by far the best Version of John Jones that I have ever seen and it is also the best "Super Hero" show that has come out in the past 2 years. The gritty reality of it reminds me of the 1st season of Daredevil on Netflix. Why do I say it is John Jones? First, the name. In the comics John Jones only needs simple carbohydrates or sugars to survive. So the last name is a tip of the hat to that fact. The powers, while subtler and more nuanced are beat for beat the original powers from the comics (Shape shifting to human form, telepathy, higher levels of mental acuity, greater strength and speed). In the comics John Jones is marooned on earth, while slightly different here as he is choosing self exile he is still trapped here on earth. There are some differences, for example no particular aversion to fire was shown, but they may be explained in future seasons. I love, love, love the backstory in Sugar on why he is a PI that looks for missing persons. It was never well explained in the comics. Here there is concert motive. This show was so well written, acted, and filmed. All I can say is I am really hoping for a season 2.

Great finale. "Sugar" was a Perfect Show; start to finish. Oh, btw: I believe Sugar told Melanie he was an Alien by telepathy. And, it was the most beautifully emotional scene in the final episode. As for the next season I see Sugar trying to find his sister, Djen, as well as Henry--while avoiding the Hit Squad sent by somebody (probably the Senator) to kill any Alien who is still on earth. Which suggests that there are possibly more than Sugar, Henry, and maybe Djen. Some viewers believe Ruby didn't return, and is also hiding among the humans. As for Djen, my theory is that she is willingly with Henry; and they are partners-in-crime. Watching, even helping, humans kill other humans. Which, as I said in previous comments, is the Mission that Henry is still obsessed with: WHY are humans violent? Why do humans hurt other humans? Kill other humans. Henry & Djen have been "seduced" by violence--which had been absent on the Aliens' planet, until "introduced" by Aliens who had visited earth before. Remember: Henry is a (Cultural?) Anthropologist. He studies cultures, and their differences. If I'm correct and Djen has, like Henry, embraced the Dark Side of humanity, it makes Sugar's quest in season 2 more "conflicted": the sister that he loves so much he's willing to give up everything for, is a Baddie. Thanks for the reviews/videos/discussions. I'll definitely be with you on "Only Murders..." and possibly with "Dark Matter."

Sugar was going to be a "Limited Series", but they quickly removed that after reviewing the numbers! They called Season 1 "Dreaming", laying the Foundation for a much larger SL! In Episode 1 alone, they opened up the door for so very many questions that were never answered or revisited. Like something traumatic happened to Sugar, but what and when? It's obvious from that 1940 Underwood Vintage Typewriter, along with the land line upstairs in Ruby's house they were there since 1940. We learn in episode 1, Sugar has a non- verbal encounter with a fellow Alien in Tokyo (the dude at the bar). He let Sugar know his Cell disbanded and he hadn't had contact with anyone in over a year, Sugar invited him to come to CA with their group. Who is driving that Gray VW at KEY moments? Another, older Alien? He slowly drives by to confirm Miller is taken out. I also believe that Djen is alive. Henry isn't a killer. This Character is so much like the real life Colin Ferrell and he's an Executive Producer on this, I can't imagine Apple TV+ not renewing it! Why isn't Apple in negotiations with them about a Season 2 Renewal? Melanie (Amy Ryan) should be in Season 2! Considering Sugar showed himself to her and she lovingly accepted him. 😊✌️

This show has had a deep personal effect for me. I got my estranged dad to watch it with me. I knew he'd love it for the Old-Hollywood call backs. I was interested in the "sci-fi twist" they kept promoting, and wow did it pay off. We both loved it, and we have spent hours discussing the scenes referenced from the classic films and how they relate to the Sugar plot. Haven't talked to my dad this much in twenty years. Colin Farrell is a fireball. Hope to God Apple pushes forward for another season.

Am I the only one surprised that this particular serial killer kept Amelia alive for over 2 weeks? It feels like there is a bit of explanation needed-she fascinated him in some way, or Henry stalled the murder for Sugar’s sake, or something. It doesn't feel like it took young Pavic that long to get to hurting his victims. Look how quickly he was going to hurt Sugar, but Amelia was apparently physically untpuched.

They have brilliantly ended it in a way that opens up so many ways a second a season could just up the ante. And Henry massively deserves to be Sugar's arch nemesis. The actor is terrific. And I'm still hoping Charlie isn't dead. It's the one thing that pisses me off.

Great show, really enjoyed your coverage of the series. Why some people don’t like certain things about this show is perplexing to me but not unlike anything else. There’s just those who want to not like things or maybe it’s just that they’re very very specific about what entertains them ??? Idk, it is what it is but I loved how this show did this and I think comparing to constellation is really appropriate as constellation is cancelled. I think constellation gave us so much that it came to be too too much and with sugar they’re giving us just enough. Dark matter is probably a better comparison to constellation but in the end it comes down to understanding what keeps viewers giving recommendations to watch the show and of course coming back for a second watch and a second or third season. Thanks for the coverage week to week. Great job

The only thing that was whack about this show is that he states a few times in the show that he's a very good investigator and he'll definitely find Olivia, but in the end all his detective work was absolutely pointless, he wasn't even close to finding her, and he only locates her because one of his alien colleagues tells him where she is. Some investigator.

I thought it was way too obvious that Henry was at the murder house. I mean how else would he know the address??? Plus I can’t tell if Henry is really a bad guy if he was just watching, just taking his mission very literally. But I’d like to see how he became a serial killers observer fleshed out in a season 2. I mean it’s kinda random that a serial killer would allow a witness to just watch. Also, I do wish they explained a little more about what happened with Sugars sister or gave further clues other than just giving us a dress. Lastly, I wish they explained more about who is hunting them and how they know about them. I pray these are answered in a Season 2. But these are just my gripes, otherwise great show.

This last episode, other than the Henry reveal, felt more like an epilogue than a finale. I thought it was the weakest episode of the season so far. That explains how he knew the address. But it doesn't explain how/why Ruby and the rest of the group knew about it. Good setup for Season 2.

Henry like other serial killers likes to risk being caught, wants people to know in a bragging way. He repeated exactly what was on the CD and he probably left that specific CD out for Sugar to find. Check this out… John and Henry’s first encounter got me thinking about it… and later on the show, as John reached into the place where Olivia was held captive, seeing all those instruments, I just couldn’t help thinking… why did Henry order a garlic press? Maybe he wanted to “try” it on somebody and take notes? Considering there were many other recordings from the sessions, I assume they did torture many other victims as experiments… maybe Henry had room to elaborate and go deep in these experiments… just thinking

Sugar says throughout the show that 'we don't kill people ', yet in their race they have baddies like Henry, so the race isn't totally peaceful, also the society knew about Henry, which contradicts their whole rule of observing people as Henry was an active part in the murdering. For me it would make more sense if the society didn't know about Henry, but only about senators son, and it was a shock to them too.

Might be alone here but I felt let down by episode 8. Cast a shadow over the whole show for me. The build-up in prior episodes was well done but the resolution felt lazy. Why was everyone defending Henry to the point of almost getting Sugar killed? And then they’re all like cool see you on the plane back to our alien planet. Who killed Miller? That was dumb. The whole Henry also being behind Djen thing was also dumb. Would have been more interesting if the Senator dad was the other psychopath, and it would have explained the political pressure. Also in the end the alien thing made zero difference to the plot-he could have been a spy and the plot beats would have barely changed. Reminds me of LOST-big on hype, weak on payoff. It was an enjoyable watch, with a dumb final episode. Count me out of season 2.

The polyglots were defending Henry to keep his secret from Sugar. Remember, they are the only ones who knew what he’d done with Djen and that he’d gone rogue. They want him off the Olivia case, “he’s getting too close.” They want Sugar off the case because he’s getting too close to finding out that Henry is a killer (become too human) and is part of Olivia’s fate. Henry does NOT get on the plane! That’s the cliffhanger for a S2: Henry has Djen! How did he get her? Sugar remembers she was kidnapped from their home. Everyone but Sugar knows how and why. Who killed Miller? And why just him? He didn’t kill the Senator’s son. His murder wouldn’t get rid of all the polyglots. Though Ruby has gotten on the plane…hmmmm. Did she? Why does she cruise slowly by Miller’s car? To make sure he’s dead? There is much yet to be unraveled! We NEED Sugar to track down Henry and Djen!

I think this show is very sloppily written. It has the feeling of a writers room who don't exactly know what they're doing or where they're going. The ending with Henry was a mess that couldn't make its mind up. Was he a villain all along who kidnapped Sugar's sister? Or was he a good guy like Sugar who had his personality warped by observing humans and becoming more human? Lazy, sloppy writing that reminded me of network TV - not prestige cable. Colin Farrell is terrific. The idea has merit. The show is junk. Oh, and the cinematography is irritating. The show references classic film noir, but doesn't seem to understand it or care about its values.

You answered your own question. Polyglots come to “observe and report.” That’s all. Henry’s the bad apple among them, the duplicitous one. Script implies the good he does is transformative. E8 implies he was attracted to the killer and that attraction makes him even more human. We won’t know till S2 why he took Djen. To lure Sugar to stay for some unknown reason. Look at the writers A-list. Directed by Mireilles too! And performances are wonderful!

@@mgariepy42 I didn't say I had an issue with why the polyglots were there. I said the writers room couldn't make its mind up about why the antagonist behaved as he did. I am a TV writer, and I know this show was way behind schedule getting its scripts turned in. They were writing them in a panic while production was well underway. It shows.

I liked the look of the show, the acting, the design, I just thought the story was a little bland. The story itself didn't do a whole lot for me, I didn't find myself trying to figure out mysteries, just kinda waiting for reveals. But I like Colin Farrell a lot

Hi, I understand your impression, because it's a very linear plot (regardless of the crazy alien twist), like any noir detective novel (except anything by James Ellroy :-) My reason for not thinking it is bland, is that it actually incorporates -direction wise- so many tributes to film. I don't mean the film sequences you see running through but, like Mel's attack by one of Stalling's guys, I interpreted it as a Shining hommage. Silence of the Lambs, too, just with the good looks of Ryan. I could go on. But tons of small things like that, to me, make this show exciting.

I can't believe I didn't call this. Sugar a Alien out in these streets. I thought he was a Spy. Colin is so fine ever since S.W.A.T. and Miami Vice. It was a good show. I'm the Series Queen, I should know.
