Thanks for the comment. Yes, you do want your oven to be on and pre-heated to 250F. This will keep your isomalt hot enough to pour.

I was hesitant when I made this video that it was too long and not typical for popular videos on KZbin - but I've got to tell you that the professional culinarians who watch it really appreciate the details and length. I will be making long and short videos in the future, so stay tuned. - Dominic

Yes, you can use these glasses in movies in order to simulate breaking glasses in a safer manner. Sugar is way softer than glass and does not cut as easily but if you are not careful you can cut yourself on sugar. It would be like biting into a large lollipop which can break into sharp edged fragments yet these same fragments quickly melt when eaten.

Thank you so much for this thorough tutorial! After dumping the heft of the isomalt after 10 minutes, we place the remaining isomalt (still in the mold) in the freezer to cool completely. How long does it stay in the fridge or freezer?
@MakeYourOwnMolds11 жыл бұрын
Adding flavor would be an excellent idea. You'll probably want to use concentrated flavors to avoid adding too much extra fluid to your Isomalt. Flavor can be added once the Isomalt is cooked let it cool down to about 265 degrees. Add the flavor to the Isomalt. Stir the flavor into just the top of the Isomalt gently until the flavoring stops bubbling and hissing (the water is being cooked out of the flavoring.) Once bubbling and hissing ends fully incorporate flavor into Isomalt.

These are all really great questions. If you would like to create sugar glasses and pour liquid into them you will have about 5 minutes (depending on how thick you make your sugar glasses) after you pour your drink into them before the glass begins to dissolve. The mold will last a life time with proper handling and care.

Dear ilcreepygirlalone, Isomalt is edible. Isomalt is a substitute sugar made from beet sugar and used in the weight loss and diabetic food industries. Isomalt is unique among replacement sugars because it retains almost all of the physical properties of real sugar with added benefits for sugar artists, cake decorators and pastry chefs. These benefits include: - Increased resistance to humidity - Better resistance to crystallization (clouding)

Sorry, I didn't mean to offend. I teach a lot of classes and I find that people let fear of failure stop them from proceeding through the process. I try to anticipate that and imitate what might be going on in their minds so in order to encourage them to press on. Thanks for the input, it helps me do better next time.

You can eat a sugar glass. If you use Isomalt (sugar substitute for diabetics) as shown in this video just eat in small quantities or you could experience abdominal disruptions.

can you add flavor to the sugar before pouring it into the mold?

Also, The dissolved sugar will end up in the drink, which may not be a good thing depending on the drink. Last, sugar reacts with carbonation, (ex: mentos and diet coke, youtube it!) so carbonated drinks (like champagne) will immediately bubble over and go flat when they come in contact with the sugar.
@TheCrazyChemist2111 жыл бұрын
noticing the bubbles i have one suggestion.. use a guide when you pour your sugar into the mold a piece of string or dental floss should work but I'm not sure. could someone let me know?

Meaning the first cut was not smooth and connected. By going back with the linoleum knife, the cut will be clean.

Guys, sugar glasses aren't for drinking. They're for cakes or stunt pieces Like, movie scenes where someone flips a table causing plates, glasses, and whatnot to go everywhere and shatter--sugar glass. Because if all that were real glass, it would be quite hazardous. Or you may have a client who wants glasses for a cake topper or sugar sculpture. AND these are usually made with isomalt which will give you the serious doo's if eaten.
@MakeYourOwnMolds12 жыл бұрын
sorry to hear that..... maybe I can find a topic you would find interesting, Any suggestions? -Dominic
@comfortouch12 жыл бұрын
Even though I don't think using them as drinking glasses is practical; I can imagine making pudding cups, no-bake items like cheesecake, and jello (jello shots) out of these.
@comfortouch12 жыл бұрын
How 'useful' are these sugar glasses? If they are used for drinks, the liquid will dissolve the sugar, making them thinner and thinner. I don't think people want to serve red wine (your example) in a glass that is distended to break and ruin their guests clothes or their carpet&tablecloths. Also,..(cont)
@comfortouch12 жыл бұрын
Why would people care if the glass is clear? Adding food coloring to the sugar and pouring different levels of color would be a more dynamic presentation.

These are informative videos but, why make yourself look stupid and offend your viewers by mocking them- using a demeaning tone and a rather "dumbed" voice when repeating a valid question/statement from people who are trying to learn and in your opinion "should have already known the answer!" If in your class, I would have asked for my money back and found another instructor who respects the students/clients who contribute to putting the bread on his table.
