A warning for those thinking of getting these as pets. They are *extremely* social, to the point where they can quite literally die from depression and loneliness. So basically they either need a playmate or you need to basically be a stay at home pet owner.

I was fortunate enough to be gifted 2 of them, but I was unfortunately entirely too young with no knowledge of how to care for them. They are extremely needy. I was great with their diet, but I unfortunately went through a bad breakup and had to work 14 hour days to afford my apartment and didn't let them out of their (well sized) cage for days at a time. One of them took it horribly and got extremely depressed to the point he stopped eating, I nursed him back with literal days of hand feeding and observation. Do not fall for these videos if you aren't up for a huge responsibility. They are also nocturnal and make alot of noise at night. Thankfully I had a friend that could take them and give them the attention they deserve.

thank you so much! there's a reason they're banned as pets in many more humane nations-- and in others it's forbidden to keep them alone. They're intensely social and require a colony to be at their happy and healthiest. They are NOT beginner pets. These videos make me so mad because they can lead to these precious little guys being neglected.

Even though adorable, No one mentions CANNABALISM IS COMMOM, they’re INCREDIBLY hard to care for stress super easily, they need to be in a minimum of a pair they’re group animals BUT they need lots of interaction/play but a very calm and quiet environment then dietary/veternary requirements. Even the noise of a barking dog can stress them enough to CANNABALISE blind or bite hands of or fully eat each other if they’re stressed, they take a lot of care per day hours a day.

infact based on my knlowedge i belive sugar gliders are easier to take care of/not the diet i don’ know about the diet/ but since they are fast and can be able to move freely you don’t need ot bye a cage unless you need to get them to a vet also they open up way easier to humans than guinea pigs because the pigs are always afraid nomatter what you do

I had to do the same thing with my first guinea pig. lol They told me he'd be fine, but a week later I knew had to get a second one because he wouldn't do anything, wouldn't eat, wouldn't drink, and wouldn't come out of hiding. Thankfully one of the ones that was part of it's liter was still in the store when I went back so I bought one of his brothers and I noticed a significant difference in the first one just a couple days later. After his brother died though 3 years later, he followed less than a week later because I couldn't get him to eat or drink anymore. :(

Further words of caution. They require very specific cages with very little space between the bars. They are extremely talented escape artists. Further, it takes a loooong time for them to get used to being handled, and they bite excessively.

No, no and no. The cages that work are the same for any small bird. They’re cheap and readily available. It took my first glider no more than 2 days to trust me and happily hang out with me. They rarely bite if you actually take your time with them, and know how to deal with them without hurting them. I’ve never been bitten even remotely hard. They nibble to say ‘no’ to things. But that doesn’t hurt. Don’t spread BS

yes please dont think about getting sugar gliders they are an exotic pet and require very specialized care/diets/supplements and are a pack animal most happiest in groups of 7-14 also they are nocturnal and they can literally die from depression they are not like a dog or a cat and if they aren't monitored/brought to the vets they can get nutrient deficiency's very easily and anything that stresses them out or causes depression can lead to not eating excessive grooming leading to balding lethargy self mutilation cannibalization again they are very expensive to care for and require "ALL OF YOUR ATTENTION" and frequent trips to a vet specializing in exotic pets like sugar gliders
