Which granted, yeah, still homicidal (but, in his mind, justifiably), but that's not 'spoiled', that's defending his family from a perceived (though imaginary) threat.

I believe the whole situation was shot through the eyes of their oldest son, everything being taken out of context because his perception is warped due to the shock of having a new sibling. For example, during dinner the mother and father probably didn't actually smear food on their own faces but in reality were swooning over the baby as it smeared food over his face.
