This reminds me of when Sugar fought in Hartford, his second pro fight, against a local kid from Waterbury, the late Vinnie Debarros. The undercard featured Marvin Hagler vs Roy Jones Sr. Two days of workouts were open to the public. My brother and I attended both days and ran into into Ray as he was entering the Hartford Civic Center on day two. His was a charmer for sure. The workouts and sparring sessions were awesome. We felt at the time that we were in the presence of an all time great.

This is a true gem. I am also impressed by the tactics and strategy of Ray's partner in the first half of the vid, would love to know who that guy was cause he's also incredible. People who aren't into counterpunching/defensive style will have difficulty appreciating the mind work employed here by both LEonard and his partner. All the subtleties, feints, proactive defensive maneuevres, set-ups, footwork, arm controlling... this is BOXING in my book. hands down Sugar Ray you're my idol

Excellent comment and observations Sir!! I was thinking virtually the same thing watching this. People who don't box, spar etc.... don't realize how intense the mental pressure is for a fighter when going against a capable opponent in the ring whether it's an actual fight or intense sparring. This is a study in feints, ring awareness, gauging your mans strengths and weaknesses, patterns habits etc....both these gents are impressive Here. Their sparring looks more Elite than actual bouts today.

The lesson I learned from watching this fight for me is as follows! When you meet a talent or challenge that is beyond your expectations you have to first admit that to your self! I’m in way over my head! To have any chance of success you Then have to go outside your comfort zone! And lock in on the unknown quantity that is within somewhere deep! Not in desperation but in an acceptance of the situation and openness to,…… Well!..Walking on water! And not getting wet! You gotta tap into something else outside your normal perimeters! So being confident in yourself, where you are right now is good, but it may not be the reality! It might not be enough!
