Great reaction. There was no switch. Listen again from the the start from the perspective of the side check, front to back. At the bridge, she realizes she deserves better, starts realizing how much time and love she’s wasted on the player, so in the last chorus, she tells him he can’t give her what she needs, so the next time he wants a side piece, and wifey begs him not to go, stay home with the wife. BTW, Jennifer was going through a divorce at the time after finding out her husband had been unfaithful, so you can see where the pain is coming from. Cheers!

It’s part of what makes this song hit so hard. She is singing from the perspective of the “side chick” but in her real life she was the wife. It’s the double meaning and pain of the lyrics. The next time you think to leave her bed for mine, why don’t you stay. I’m up off my knees. I don’t have to live this way. You can’t give me what I need so why don’t you stay (in the bed that’s not mine). It fit the song and also sadly fit her personal life as well.

When listening to country, you will find that lyricism is a very common art, and one of the most notable is a twist on the double entendre. It's not at all uncommon for one phrase to have two or more meanings, but the meaning changes as the song develops. In this, "why don't you stay" through must of the song is asking why he doesn't leave the wife already and stay with her.. in the last portion, she's realized that she's going in something that isn't going to happen, so "why don't you stay" becomes next time you think of coming over, you should stay home, cause I'm over it. The artist was going through some hard times in her own life which added to her ability to just overflow with emotion, even though the story itself isn't her own. In writing the song, she said there are many songs from the viewpoint of the wife, but she wanted to explore what is going on in the mind of the side chick. On another note, there were a few copies early in the sing that she was the side that you missed. She said when he got the call, he would go home. It would probably be worth just listening to the song (and many others for that matter) on your own after. Once the meaning becomes apparent, you can hear the story with that in mind and you will pick up on more of the subtle things. Last thing.. if you want one of the best songs that fleshes out the double entendre aspect, I would suggest Tim McGraw's Don't Take The Girl. The chorus evolves every time it's repeated to present a powerful story.

And when I heard this song, "It's too much pain to have to bear to love a man you have to share" , i understood that I couldn't keep going like this. I slowly pulled away from him, from our friendship, for the sake of my mental health and my heart. Years later, I have been in love with someone else. I have been with him for 8 years now. However, to be honest, in the anonymity of the Internet, my boyfriend has to share my heart,. Because even though I am not close to the other guy anymore, he is still very good friends with my brother, so I still see him from time to time. And I still feel this little clutch in my heart every time I do. And it reminds me I did the right thing by pulling away.

That song and especially the video hits you right in the feels. I love the raw emotion by Jennifer and how she’s hurting, begs him to stay with her, but develops strength as the song progresses until she tells him to stay away. This topic may be uncomfortable for some but Country tells it like it is and if there’s any emotion that you’re dealing with, this genre will bottle those feelings up and make music that will hopefully help you. Great songs along the lines of this one, about infidelity, realizing your mistakes, or even getting the courage to break free from a damaging relationship are All These Years by Sawyer Brown; Promises, Reasons I Cheat, and Hard Rock Bottom of Your Heart by Randy Travis; It’s Your Call by Reba McEntire; Leave My Heart Out of This by Bryan White; I'm Not Strong Enough to Say No by Blackhawk; and You Were Mine by the Dixie Chicks.

It was their wedding rings on that chain she was holding. The guitarist (Christian Bush) wouldn't let them film her more than once... he said no more, it's too painful for her.
