Suge gave his soul to the devil and chose the devil path and he was in this dark toxic Devil energy and others were in danger of their life everyday because of him. This type of person won't change. The narrative that Big Gipp is giving is exactly what demonstrates how even a genius artist like a 2Pac and Biggie were gullible and underestimated the dangerous games they were playing. Their deaths only opened the door to a really bad era of violence against rappers and their entourages. We lost a lot of genius, a lot of potential music conglomerates. Death Row would have been the biggest label in rap today and their roster would have had quadruple the amount of artists and would have inspired other Suges, owners of their own record labels.

I like Gipp. Outlast, Goodie Mob and the whole dungeon family, organized noise crew is definitely my favorite people. Listening to his lyrics and listening at him do interviews, how has he not flipped his career and popped in something else with all that knowledge? He looks like he could do good in the movie industry or at least kick off something major as an entrepreneur. Maybe the villain role or something. Sometimes u just gotta figure out your strong points and go with that. Just like his solo career..he came with the singing and dancing, catchy hooks like grillz with nelly. Just wasn't the same Gipp we knew and loved from soul food and still standing.

Gipp not speaking no facts. Sugar isn’t to blame. People like Maxine waters and the state of California disrupted the gangster rape culture in California. They started banning lyrics and placed gang injunctions in certain neighborhoods which prevented people hanging with each other. Then the clubs started banning hats , shoes , white T’s. Meanwhile the southerners and easterners mimicked everything the west coast did without any repercussions.

He's not lying. Death Row had the greatest 4 year run in the history of the music business. For them to come out the gate with The Chronic and continue to hit home runs non stop for 4 years is unprecedented. It's too bad Suge was going through his 2nd childhood with millions of dollars in his pocket. It was never meant to last with that mentality.

The other side of the coin that rarely gets talked about is Suge was incredibly smart when it came to business and the Powers that be that controlled the music industry knew it. Extorting Vanilla Ice of his publishing rights are the proceeds that helped start Death Row in the first place. As his earlier days of working as a bodyguard for Bobby Brown, Suge understood that ownership of your master recordings and publishing rights is where the real money is. Thus, countless numbers of Black artists/musicians had been getting snaked out of profits from their labor by the owners of the record companies.

Death Row Records downfall was simply bad business practice. Like not really paying the artists properly. Ask Snoop how much he made at Death Row Records vs when he signed to No Limit Records. Hood politics have always been part parcel in Hip Hop Culture. If the business is right irrespective of the boisterous mindset of some young men it can be sustainable. But it is rare for a label to sustain in the mainstream.

Dre disrespected DEATH ROW by NOT supporting Snoops murder case. Very true that Dre was the sound at first. All Eyez On Me changed things and showed that they would still be successful with DJ QUIK taking over as lead producer and engineer. Dre only worked on 3 songs out of the 27 that made All Eyez on Me a classic

I hear you Gipp! Unfortunately Suge is not that smart or that remorseful of his mistakes. He still believes his model could have worked and he blames everyone but himself for the downfall of the label. He wanted to run Deathrow like a football team lol. The music business and football are two different things.

Thats true. I dont think Ice Cube was an actual gang member, but i know Mack 10 (Queens St. Blood) and WC (Neighborhood Crip) were. Cube brought them together and they sold many records repping their set, but leaving the politics out of it. Suge on the other hand, was more interested in Piru politics... smh

"It's totally a subculture only to them," -- Big Gipp. Gipp really said some real sh-- here. It's been a hot minute since L.A./the west coast, aside from a few artists here and there like Kendrick and Roddy Ricch, has been at the forefront of hip hop commercially. Alotta the same "politics" that derailed Death Row, unfortunately, has also carried over to this new generation, ie Nipsey Hussle and Drakeo The Ruler, two guys I thought had a real shot to blow outside of the region. Death Row and Suge, ultimately, just didnt know when to "turn it off." I disagree with Gipp when he said every L.A. artist that signed shouldve distanced themselves from their neighborhoods, becuase if we're keeping it a buck, thats actually part of the allure in marketing these artists (see: The Game when Dre & 50 first put him out), or YG (Def Jam handed him to Jeezy for his debut album). I think TDE, as far as L.A. hip hop, is the best example of who learned from Suge's mistakes. Unlike Suge, Top Dawg didnt have to pay to be from his hood, and was actually a real reputable in his section. TDE has just as many hoods around as Death Row, but you never heard any smut on its name. You'd never even know that TDE is a gsng affiliated label at first glance. Unlike Suge, played the background! And kept the streets seperated from the business.

Snoop said it best: TDE was what Death Row was supposed to be. I thought it was cool for Kendrick Lamar(Piru affiliate), Jay Rock(Bounty Hunters Bloods) and Schoolboy Q(Hoover Crips) to be labelmates of the same company with the CEO being from the Red Side(don't know his exact affiliation). Very reminiscent of Suge and DR's early days where artists from sides of the tracks were making money and good music together. Before PAC and Biggie were murdered to say the least. Cali artists with known gang affiliation like The Game(Cedar Block Piru) or YG(Tree Top Piru) saw an avenue to recreate the West Coast Hip Hop scene or Gangsta rap buzz that's been dominant in Hip Hop for decades. Although, the "set-trippin' was marketable to younger fans who weren't necessarily privy to LA gang culture or don't know the full history of it, which only added to the detriment of both Nipsey and Drako who became casualties of their violent environments. Ironically, now you got artists that are not even from LA(i.e., Chris Brown, Soulja Boy, Lil Wayne, Jim Jones) seeking to win accreditation by clicking up with certain Blood gangs. Looking for clout.

Lets not forget that Suge was like giving homeboys a job doing money legally. He gave them an opportunity to make money in a legal way . Unfortunately things turned out the way he never expected. He helped alot of people in the streets helped families to eat .But when it was on him when things turned south. But it was a lesson though . It doesn't take away a good business man he was intelligent he was and a helping hand he was

Come on now, at the end of the day Pac and Dre were grown ass men while on Death Row. Interesting one of those men who was on that label longer (Dre) is still alive & worth almost a billion while the other one died penniless. Its a certain mentality you gotta have and I don't even care for Dre like that but everything is not Suge's fault.

I agree with the fact he should've kept them away. Especially someone like Pac whos loyalty always made him insert himself into shit he didnt need to be in nor was his business. That ride or die mentality got him killed. I understand it completely because I was that way up until not too long ago and now I look back at some of the mfs I was riding for and realize not many people are built like that. When tested, mfs really aint ready to die about you and honestly they shouldn't be.

"Nobody is bigger than the program." This is the problem. Hood politics and nobody being bigger than the program is not about equality. It's about telling more talented people that you arent special. And, if you think differently, you will be checked or receive a DP. Look at what happened to Nipsey Hussle.
